Ok, so, have I told you about my led foot? Well, today I used it and we got here!

I’m not going to tell you where we were going, I’ll give you the full rundown on Sunday, but what I will tell you is that I pushed the speed limit where I could! And paid off, by gosh, by golly! I know, strong words!

I truly underestimated the Boston traffic on a holiday weekend! I went to GES’ house to pick up Annie, the beetle bug, back to the hotel to pick up PSM, a trip which should have taken 40 minutes…at the most…took just at TWO hours!

We booked it out of there and got on the road, we had to be at our destination by 6:45at the latest, or so the guy said when we called!

Let’s just say I channeled my mom, EMS,  a touch… I didn’t break any sound barriers, but…

Did we make it by 6:43? You bet your sweet bippy we did!  This is my birthday present for my beau, we were not missing it!

More to come!

The cats are heading for the border!

HH came to my hotel room today to drop something off and as she was leaving, the door was open and as we’re talking, all of a sudden, we see two little furry blurs run by!

Jymy and Peanut have escaped!

First they went to the left down the hall, they headed back towards the room, but no, down the hall towards freedom! We couldn’t help but watch and laugh! I kept thinking and I said once “I really should be filming this”, all we did was stare and laugh!

I closed the door a bit and Peanut said, ‘oh no, let me in!’, Jymy, on the other hand went back in the other direction and started crying! When I went to get her, I knew why she was standing there crying…I smelled chicken soup!  I scooped her up and in she went!

Adventure had and now it’s time for a nap! The life of a cat…

{June 30, 2015}   I miss my daddy

I think I’ve told you I talk to my dad every day, haven’t I?

Well, on Saturday, dad and LaLa went on vacation. I got to talk to him yesterday, but not today and I don’t know when I’ll get to talk to him again, I’m sure one or two more times until they get back, but it’s not the same!

We talk almost every day, some times it’s a few minutes, sometimes a few more, sometimes an hour. Some days he calls, some days I call, but it’s just about every day. Admittedly, there have been times we missed one day here and there and I notice, but it’s never more than a day.

It was the same when I went to Ireland, I didn’t get to talk to him every day and it was weird and here we are again. I like sharing my life with him, telling him about my day and hearing about his.

He’s having a great time and I’m so happy for him. When he gets back, so much to catch up on!

{June 28, 2015}   A new adventure

Life is an adventure, full of new experiences.

My brother-in-law, ACS, is about to have a new adventure and plenty of new experiences. He is going back to school to get his Masters in Education and start a new adventure as a teacher.

He’s been at the same company for over 15 years and he is very good at what he does, but after so many years, he is ready for a change. He’s been thinking about it for a while, but wanted to wait until the time was right, for the family, for the job, for the company, before he made any big decisions.

One of the deciding factors was MGS going to kindergarten next year, both girls in elementary school was a start. I’m not going into more details, that is his story to tell. I just know that this next year will be full of changes, experiences and new adventures and I look forward to hearing all about that!

Good luck ACS, it’s going to be a grand adventure!

{June 25, 2015}   Inside Out

Go see it!

This was a charming, funny, heart warming, heart wrenching, sad, silly, angry, happy, joyful experience all rolled up into a Disney Pixar movie, which, come on, let’s be real, are there any Disney Pixar movies that aren’t wonderful?

The premise is that we get to see inside the head of an 11 year old girl, all her emotions, who are the main characters: Disgust, who won’t let her eat anything icky, Fear, who won’t let her do anything too crazy, Joy, who wants every moment to be happy, Sadness, who, well, can’t feel anything but sadness and lastly, Anger, who everyone really loves who sees the movie.

As I was watching this, I kept thinking “I’m Joy, I’m Joy” I want people to be happy, never a sad or dull moment, how do I fix it so every moment is a good one and good memory and the realization is that you can’t do that, you have to have all of your emotions and some are more prevalent than others in different situations, they all work together or things go wrong.

The movie is so clever in its concept and execution. You get an insight into Riley’s head, she’s the 11 year old and then we see the same emotions inside mom and dad’s heads, but their emotions reflect who they are, like all dad’s emotions have the same thick moustache he does and mom’s has the same hair! The really interesting thing is to see how they all work together and who’s emotion is ‘in charge’ in each head.

Make sure you stay after the end of the movie, part way through the credits, it’s really cute.

Fair description PSM?

INSIDE OUT

{June 23, 2015}   I have a party nail!

Ok, first, did you even know what a party nail was? I didn’t have a clue what that was until today!

A few days ago CH and I decided we were going to go and get manis this week and we thought it would be fun to invite everyone else and guess what…we had 7 tonight to get pampered! But…CH had work to do so she couldn’t go! Next week, pedis for me, mani for CH, sounds good to me!

So, after our meeting we all carpooled and headed to our appointment. We all got manicures, so that was easy. Two at each table and it was fun picking out colors, what to get, what to get! I went with deep blue, love it!

While we are siting there, HH starts talking about getting a party nail…what? a party nail? Yupper! A party nail is when you paint all but one nail on each hand one color and do something special with one finger, she also informed me it was to be the ring finger, ok, sounds good. Then I asked her to pick out an accent color or something to be my party nail, and pick she did!

So, all my fingers got the dark blue and the ring finger on each hand is accented with gold and I have to say, I like it! I usually do fun stuff on my toes, big toes specifically. Thanks HH for the party nail idea!

What a great time we had! We talked, caught up, got to know each other better, got a little pampered, what more could you want?

Today, instead of a spring in my step, I have a little sparkle in my wave.

Are these beautiful or what?!

I got back to my hotel this afternoon and found a wonderful and beautiful surprise!

I had received a text message earlier in the day asking what my room number was, not knowing why, I did ask if he was going to surprise me and he did!

I walked in the room to drop off some stuff and pick up other stuff, looked across the room and there they were, with a lovely note and the smile spread on my face! I have a wonderful beau.

Thank you PSM, I love them!

Today is Father’s Day. That means I get to tell you about my amazing dad, wahoo!

Where do I begin? Do I simply tell you he’s a great guy? You know that. Do I simply tell you he’s fun to hang out with? You should, you would love it! Do I simply tell you he’s a good friend? He is. Do I simply tell you he’s the best father and grandfather EVER? Just ask me, GES, MGS and EJS and we will tell you, emphatically and without hesitation, YES, YES and H-E [double hockey sticks] YES!

It all started almost 44 years ago when this little person came into DWS’ life that would change him from being just an all around good guy and out of this world husband, he became a dad. The first, and most important thing he did was to give me a name. I was supposed to be a boy, Joshua Alec, I like it. Tonya, just in case I was a girl, let me just say, ick, nothing personal against Tonya’s, but could you see me as a Tonya? Nope, me neither! JRS, that’s what I would be called! [ooh, you know my initials, you just thought I was plain ‘ole JJ]. And let me tell you, every father’s day, I am sure to thank him for naming me because my name fits me just right.

As soon as I was born, I was a daddy’s girl and things have not changed, for my sister or myself. No matter how old we get or independent or sure of ourselves or whatever else I can think of, we will always be daddy’s girls. I don’t know what all daddy’s are supposed to do, but I’ll tell you about ours.

Daddy’s are there to kiss boo-boos, wipe off scraped knees, teach me how to ride a bike, take to fast food restaurants when mom is not home, share secrets with, share stories with, laugh at the same stuff in movies, practice driving with, stand up to the gym teacher when I’m in fourth grade because he said girls couldn’t play softball, we had to play kickball, guess how long that lasted! Stand up to my kindergarten teacher when she whined about me sitting on my knees in class “Do you let her sit on her knees at home?” “Yes we do!”

At birthday parties, he was the one whipping the snake of kids around the skating rink, yes, I said skating rink, that’s how we celebrated birthdays in the olden days! Now for birthdays, we get amazing works of art, he is so talented! Piano, guitar, mandolin, oils, acrylics, guache, water color, Chinese calligraphy, if there is something new to try with a brush, he’ll do it.

Take me to the art museums in high school to help me with some projects. Go to the art museums today and look at the modern art in the exact same way, with our heads cocked to one side saying “huh” or “that’s an interesting installation” only to find it’s actually ‘insulation’ that they had out because they were doing some repairs! We do have similar style when it comes to museums, look, read a few descriptions, keep moving. We have favorite artists and time periods that we love and I absolutely adore going to museums with him to discuss paintings because his knowledge base is fascinating!

He introduced me to my love of opera, sharing his love and opening up a whole new world to me. Outdoor concerts, both classical and rock-n-roll, everything from the 1950’s has meaning…introducing me to some crazy music and I introduced him to a slew of comedians and now he can’t get enough!

Someone to teach me to play craps and marvel at all he does. Someone who said, when the you-know-what hit the fan, “come home, I’ll take care of you, you don’t have to go through any of this alone”. Someone who was always my champion and strongest defender and biggest shoulder to cry on, who never judges, might ask some questions, but never judges. I bought a truck once, his question, “what color is it?”.

He loves to try out new technology on me, when we’re driving to the same place in separate cars, he calls me to make sure I know where I’m going.

He lifts me up when I’m feeling down, pulls me in close when I need a hug and just listens when he knows I don’t want to talk. He makes me laugh and think about things, he has the best and sometimes twisted sense of humor! When I hear a new joke, he’s the first one I call to tell. Does your dad tell you dirty jokes? Mine does!

Not only is he a good dad to me and my sister and become a father to my brother-in-law, but what an amazing grandfather he is to EJS and MGS. And what an affection LaLa’s grandkids have for him! And all my sister’s friends kids, remember how they all call me Auntie J? He’s Poppa D to everyone, what a title. He always says if he knew grandkids were this much fun he would have done this first!

After my mom was gone, he became one of my best friends, someone I value above all else, his friendship and love I hold sacred because he gives them so freely and fiercely. I talk to my dad every day and I feel weird when I don’t talk to him! Sometimes it’s about something, sometimes nothing, we have become confidants. I talk to my dad every day, not because I have to, but because I want to.

I don’t now where I would be without my dad and I don’t want to.

For those of you celebrating today, I wish you a Happy Father’s Day. To my daddy, DWS, Happy Father’s Day and THANK YOU FOR MY NAME!

“Any man can be a father, it takes a special man to be a daddy” I love you Daddy! XOXO

fathers-day

{June 20, 2015}   We have a green belt!

EJS is a green belt!

This past week,  EJS tested for the next level in her training towards her black belt.  I was there for the yellow belt and the orange belt,  such a treat.

She has really excelled in her training, she has great focus and sees the prize at the end,  but knows it takes a great deal of commitment, training and determination.

Next week she has a meeting with Instructor T to discuss her future and training as it will get harder, as you can imagine.

Just like her parents, I am so proud of my niece for all she has accomplished so far,  I cannot wait to see what is coming next!

Go EJS!

{June 19, 2015}   A graduation!

Today marked a big achievement!

MGS graduated from pre-k, next year moving up to kindergarten! Oh my goodness, where did the time go?

It was cute, they had the area between the classrooms set up with chairs for the parents and along the walls there were small chairs for the kids, with their names on them on orange tape. There was also orange tape on the floor so they knew where to stand for their big song.

They all came out and stood in front of the families and when it was time, one of their teachers told us about the song they were going to perform, and then they started. Singing, the hand gestures, it was great! Not to mention the graduation caps they were wearing, made from black construction paper! With red tassel, no less!

After a huge round of applause, the kids went to their assigned seats and were called up one by one by the teachers. After they got their laminated diploma, both teachers knelt down to take a picture with each child, very cute!

After the diplomas, we were treated to a slide show of the kids throughout the year and “There are tissues at the end of each row”, perfect!

After the slide show, it was pictures and hugs with the graduates and a pizza party, well, isn’t that the way you would celebrate?

I got to see my niece get her first diploma! Congrats MGS!
