Peaches Prattlings

Tonight I did something different and fun.

I went to a place near my hotel called The Chocolate Bar.  It’s a bar/restaurant that specializes in chocolate,  as you might imagine. Drinks, food,  dessert.

Mondays they have a promotion, Martinis abs Manis,  buy a martini, get a free mani,  fabulous? Yes! Wednesdays is Martinis abs Massages.  It’s a hook and a gimmick, but it worked! Worth it,  oh yeah!

They need to do this in more cities!

I found out about it from someone in one of my classes today,  she was meeting a friend there herself.  I had been wanting to go, I know,  I don’t like chocolate, but I was curious.

I got there,  ended up seeing the girl from class,  we chatted while she word for get friend. The menu was extensive,  well, the chocolate menu that is.

I ordered my first martini ever,  chocolate and peanut butter. It tasted like a Resee peanut butter cup,  except with vodka, um, not my thing,  but I tried it.  So I got a hot chocolate with amaretto,  better. They had virgin martinis, but they were made with milk,  oh well.

image

If you bite the ends off the chocolate stick, you can use it as a straw! That was tasty!

image

I ordered sweet potato fries with three sauces for dipping sauces, dark chocolate, which had a kick, rosemary butter and maple mayo,  that was the best. I keep trying things,  like chocolate to see if I like it,  you know,  tastes change! Not in this case!

Then I ordered a salad, very-berry, it was good,  lots of berries and nuts in a giant martini glass! Tasty!

image

They had Willy Wonka in a loop in the bar, along  with the I Love Lucy episode in the

chocolate

factory and some

episode of Sponge Bob selling chocolate on in the bathroom.

image

image

There were some interesting people at the bar while I was there,  always fun to people watch.

Then it was my turn for a mani. The girl who did it talked 90 to nothin! She was very nice and chatty and when we talked about travel I asked if she traveled a lot, yup, to Florida and NYC all the time, but she wants more. I think she did a great job,  it’s very dark green with a gold party nail,  St Patty’s day is coming up,  maybe this will give me a touch of luck!

image

Back to the hotel with my leftovers,  way too much food! The valet and front desk were happy!

I wonder what my next adventure will be!!

{March 5, 2016}   What a day!!

It started early, ended late, lots in the middle, perfect.

It started early because my sleep is messed up. 3:15am, 4:30am and finally, I gave up at 6:20am and got up. Well, didn’t get up and out of bed, just no more sleeping.

I got up,  dressed and headed out to meet PSMs sister-in-law and nephew for brunch not too far from them,  because after we ate,  we went back to their place and I got to visit with Mollie! She looks great, she’s lost a little weight and still the same lovable, sweet dog she always was.

She ran around,  was excited to see me,  then she was done,  it was time to lay in the sun,  I totally get that!

image

After our visit,  I headed to see if I might catch GES and the family at home,  I did. It was a whirlwind visit, well, I walked in add they were getting ready to go out, here and there. I picked up some stuff, dropped off and headed out.

I went to the Art In Bloom exhibition at the local library,  amazing! Each piece had an assignment a piece of art to be created and then reproduced in flora, amazing!

image

image

image

Then it wad back to my place to drop off groceries, yup,  did that somewhere in between!

Got a text from KAB, what I sent her for the baby shower made it! Go amazon prime! I can’t wait to see pictures!

Caught up with HH on the phone,  then headed out for GNO, or Girls Night Out, for those of you not in the know.  JB, SB, LI, KM and I sent to a pretty good Mexican restaurant, El Sarape in Braintree.

We had a blast! After waiting a while for a table,  and we had a reservation, the place was packed! We got our table and then cane close to closing the place down.  We looked at our watches and it was 9 then all of a sudden it was almost 11pm, not bad.

We caught up,  laughed,  drank,  ate,  laughed,  talked about planning girls weekends, it was great! There were only a few times I was lost since they have all known each other for years,  but they filled me in on stuff. Such a great time!

Back home,  take care of some stuff,  talk to to you and now on going to crash. Tomorrow is laundry,  straighten up and head out…back to Buffalo.

G’night!

{February 28, 2016}   What a weekend!

As promised, my weekend, I’m more awake now!

I got to Colorado on Friday, found a hotel, chilled out, talked to you and crashed out. Apparently my body thought I only needed about four hours of sleep,  wide awake at 4:15am, seriously?

I finally got up about 5:45, dressed and breakfast and out the door by 6:20am, at AM’s house to get my skis, head up to the mountains. What a view,  breathtaking,  peaceful,  calming, I’m glad I had the opportunity to live in Colorado and go back and visit.

image

image

I decided to go to Breckinridge for the day and I’m so glad I did, beautiful weather, never got very cold and warmed up towards the end of the day. It was about 60 when I left.

I got to the top for my first run of the day and woosh, away I went.  There was good powder,  groomed and smooth.  It really was a pleasure being out there,  I am definitely a west coast over east coast skier.  I’m more confident there than back east and that’s ok,  everyone has their skills and what they’re comfortable with. Some people are east over west,  that’s why you see those bumper stickers “Ski the East “.

image

image

I took a few breaks,  including one for lunch. I accidentally spilled two drops of vegetables soup on my goggles, it got into the foam so every time I pulled them down,  I smelled soup! Especially when I pulled my face guard up! Had to wash them pretty fast,  I couldn’t take it!

image

In all,  I skied for about four and a half hours, it was invigorating and exhausting! I didn’t even have to trick myself into the last run!

image

image

I left Breck and headed to AM’s house to visit with him and the family. I love spending time with his wife,  N and their daughter A, she is a spitfire and adorable.

We chatted for a bit,  then headed out to their favorite local sushi restaurant, at least I think it was a favorite,  they knew the staff,  which is nice and they were happy to see the family.

We had a very nice dinner, she drew me this picture on the back of a sushi menu. Isn’t it fabulous! You know it’s going on my fridge!

image

Back to the house, the younger A went to bed and A, N and I watched Lucy, interesting. It was great to hang out with them. Over dinner and beyond,  we talked about movies,  Marvel, DC, Star Wars,  Star Trek,  and more and more and books and…  It was a lot of fun,  I’m looking forward to next time.

Back to the hotel, chilled a bit, barely talked to you and then passed out, as you know.

This morning, I got up leisurely,  it was nice,  breakfast and eventually head out.  I visited my storage units,  got some stuff and headed to the airport.

I had enough time when I returned the car, then sat on the bus for about 10/15 minutes waiting to head to the airport. My bags made it by the skin of their teeth,  but they made it.  They made it to my first stop,  Minneapolis,  but somehow got routed wrong and they didn’t make it to Buffalo with me.

Luckily…I left a bag with the hotel last week because I didn’t want to take it with me and I’m so glad I did! The Delta luggage agent gave me a kit that had a t-shirt, tooth brush, the essentials. Good thing, my jammies and essentials are still in flight! They should be here tomorrow about noon.  I’m just glad I have something to wear to teach class!

And now that are caught up, I will say goodnight and pleasant dreams.

{February 20, 2016}   What a day! Woosh

Back on skis for the first time this season.

The ski season has not been a very long one.  Traditionally, it starts about October/November and should go through March/April. Not so this year. Apparently Mother Nature is not a skier. Or I should say, she might be a west coast skier, I get Colorado snow reports every weekend.

So, needless time say, I haven’t skied until today. As we talked about last night,  I came up to NH with the families and this morning we suited up and went to Cannon Mountain. It’s a high and windy mountain and today,  it student disappoint.

We got our lift tickets, put boots on abs away we went. On the way up in the express loft,  express to the top, it got very windy abs EJS was not a fan,  but we made it up and headed down the mountain.  I will tell you, I wasn’t a huge fan, as there was a lot of ice and I’m not an ice skier, some people are, in not a fan of sliding and I don’t like the sounds of sliding and scraping over ice,  that’s just me.

We are making our way down and have stopped for a moment and out of no where,  someone comes barreling down, skis over MGS’ ski and plows into JT, knocks him down and actually breaks one of his ski poles! MGS lost a ski, it landed near GES. I immediately take off my skis and go to MGS, who is crying a lot at this point.

I held her while GES made her way back towards us. I checked and nothing was broken and I asked if she was hurt or just startled. Just startled, thank goodness. I rocked and cooed until mommy got there and took over. Get this…turns out that the guy who plowed into us was a ski instructor!

After a while, JT said he would ski with MGS between his skis. It took some doing,  GES and I each had two sets of ski poles, but we made it down.

The only thing we were worried about was the girls not wanting to ski after this or being nervous and they’re both pretty good skiers. We got to the bottom and EJS and ACS were ready for more, MGS was not and then she was and away they went.

I have to tell you, so very proud of EJS and MGS for making it down and wanting to keep going, Champs I tell ya!

GES and I however,  first got our lift ticket money back and since I now had $150 back, it was like found money,  we went to the bar! GES had a beer and I had an amaretto hot chocolate, yum! Along with style Bavarian pretzels, we were set.

We had at least 45-one hour good quality sister time,  then everyone came in for lunch. After lunch,  they all went back on the slopes and GES and I enjoyed more sister bonding time.

After an hour it was time to head back to the house for relaxing, skating  on the pond,  and hot chocolate, kid friendly,  maybe a nap or two. No technology though, it was nice. There was even some reading that had to be done.

Eventually we made dinner,  then more games and off to sleep for the kids. The grown-ups stayed up to talk and use their technology, freedom! And now I’m talking to you!

All in all,  an enjoyable day. Gotta get it all in,  back to Buffalo tomorrow.

{February 15, 2016}   No Chinese! What?

I had Chinese food for dinner, so this seemed  fitting.

I was looking for inspiration for tonight and I saw this,  thank you AS for posting it! Too funny!

If you don’t know why this is funny, the reality behind the joke is that Jews love Chinese food,  especially on Friday nights.
Either before going to Shabbat services at Temple or even just Friday night.

Or Christmas Eve or Christmas Day,  before or after a movie.  Do you sense a theme?

Bottom line…funny!

{February 7, 2016}   What a weekend!

And I’m not in Atlanta!

I got back Thursday from Buffalo, picked up my rental car and went home to check on my furry babies.

Friday was a work day,  got a lot done while watching the snow pile up,  nice big flakes. About 6pm I booted up,  put on my big puffy coat and headed out,  I had a date…with me! Ha, fooled ya!

I took myself to see “Hail, Caesar!” Kids snack pack,  bottle of water and it was movie time,  I really enjoyed it.

Saturday, I slept in,  8am, oooh, apparently the kids thought I needed to be awake,  oh well.  A nice lazy morning,  then headed to The Muse Bar to have my paint night date with DTN and then dinner after.

This morning I went to meet CG, my trainer and her husband, BG. We had a great time, great breakfast at The Friendly Toast. We ate, laughed, swapped stories, talked about their strongman competitions coming up. I can’t wait to hear the stories and see the pics!  Three hours later we had plans to get together again,  can’t wait!

The rest of the day was spent relaxing with the kids,  I haven’t been her for a bit,  it was nice.

Now,  it’s time for updating you,  lights out and start the new week in a few hours.

A typical day for me, right?

I signed up to do the Hot Chocolate 15k, my second 15k and fifth or sixth Hot Chocolate Race, “The Sweetest Race in America”. I picked up the packet yesterday, as I mentioned and there was my bib and an embroidered jacket. Embroidered? Did I sign up for that? Nope, it was a perk of registering early! I like it! All the jackets had the name of the race, the special ones say Atlanta 2016, pretty cool! The women had blue trim and the men, orange. They also coordinated the bags this year, only orange or blue.

The only things I bought at the expo were throw away gloves, a hat and a neck scarf, kind of like the ones I wear to ski, but this has the Hot Chocolate logo and it matched my jacket!
image

I didn’t even realize I had paid for parking, but I had and I’m glad I did, I didn’t have to search for a place to park or take a shuttle, bad part…the lots closed by 6:30am, so I had to be there before they closed and my corral didn’t start until 7:40am! I was staying with RJS, so much fun, as always. My alarm went off at 5:30, then I snoozed and about 10 minutes later I heard “JJ, time to get up!’

I got dressed, got in the car and was out the door by 5:50am, in the parking lot by 6:20 and I could not fall asleep, so I hung out until about 7:30 and then braved the cold to head to the start.

When I say cold and Georgia, no one believes me. It was TWENTY FOUR degrees and with the wind chill, it felt like 15! By the time I crossed the finish line it was 29, ooh, heat wave! I had hand warmers that I had gotten when I was in NYC, but I didn’t think about food warmers, I wish I had!

My corral didn’t start until about 8am, I wasn’t going to run at all, because I haven’t trained or run since the half marathon in Lisbon October 18th, but…it was so cold I said f-it! Sorry for those of you who are sensitive, I know that was harsh! Just to warn you, there might be more!

When we started, I ran because I couldn’t feel my toes, so perfect thing to do to get the circulation going. I ran about half a mile, then walked, then ran. I ended up walking most of the way and I’m ok with that. About mile two they said you could split off and do the 5k, especially with the weather being so cold. I was thinking about it and I said, nah, f-it! I want my medal, so march on! Look, it was really cold, a little harsh language was called for!

Let’s just say that in the end I was pleased with my decision to keep going, but about mile 6 and 7, I was thinking, this is f-ing nuts! Then it was mile 8, then 9 and there was the finish line. There were times I was tricking myself, just like everyone else “It’s just three 5ks” or “We just did a 5k, let’s do another” “I just finished the 5k, only 6.1 miles left” “Less than 2 miles, you can do it!’

I crossed that finish line and I was so happy, I got my medal and headed towards the after party. As I was passing a police officer, I joked, because I had the scarf around my face “We could go from the finish line to roving a bank”, he laughed. I said on not going to, he thanked me.
image

Speaking of thanking, I made sure to thank a bunch of volunteers and police for being there today, awesome people.

I went to RJS’ to shower and head out. If I had more time, I would have taken an ice bath, I really need that relief right about now. I never would have believed it before I tried it!

I visited with RJS a little while longer, then headed to Decatur to meet some friends for brunch. It was C & J C and their adorable son, M, doll baby!

M had even made me a card and put some candy in a bag for me, I loved it! You know me, anything hand made!
image

We had a really nice lunch and caught up, then after I stopped in a store and bought something for PSM, I think he’ll like, then I went to meet TS at the movies. We had decided on Hotel Transylvania, but Goosebumps was there, so we saw that instead, it was great! And I am not a Jack Black fan, so I must have really liked it!

We got into the theater and there was no one in there until about five/ten minutes before the movie, we sat in the theater and talked until everyone else showed up, then it was quite packed.

From there, I went up to see L&AK and their three girls, K, J and K. Whenever I am here, it’s like no times has passed, like we had just seen each other or spoken last week. One of my favorite things, all three girls call me Aunt J…they were the first and I love them so! L is like a sister to me, we’ve known each other forever, I love this family!

L had picked up a salad for me at “Whole Paycheck” otherwise known as Whole Foods and she and I sat and ate, everyone else had eaten earlier. We talked about everything and no one, we were all caught up. I talked to her husband A, during the commercials, he was watching football and I love spending time, just being around my girls.

L and I talked until about 11:30 and then shuffled off to bed. Here I sit writing to you ready to crash out when I finish this post.

So, we covered a race, a brunch, the movies, dinner and a visit.

I’m sure your day was just as fabulous, what did you do?

{January 23, 2016}   There’s a kid under there!

Today was another great and busy day. I’m in Atlanta, what else would it be?

I got in yesterday about 545pm, just as the snow started to fall. I picked up my rental car and headed to JCT’s house for the night.

I picked up food on the way and got to catch up with JCT and “mom” when I got there, just the three of us,  it was great.  We talked about her trip to China,  family,  the works. JCT’s daughter,  ST,  had her wisdom teeth pulled earlier that day,  so she was in bed,  get dad was up there taking care of her.

We talked even after mom went to bed, we both fell asleep in the big comfy chairs, it was awesome.

This morning, we got up,  had breakfast,  hung out with the rest of the family. As I was leaning,  JCT’s mom almost made me cry. She said she loved me and she had two daughters, I love that! I don’t call her mom a just a term of endearment!

Then JCT and I left to meet RJS for lunch. Such a treat! The three of us met in October of 2009 when we worked together,  with ST as well and the wonderful,  we’ve all stayed friends and when we can, we all get together,  doesn’t happen as often as we’d like, but when we do,  even sweeter.

We caught up, laughed, reminisced, laughed, goofed around, swapped stories about work,  life,  relationships, laughed. Have you noticed there is a theme with my friends?

After a nice long leisurely lunch, we went our separate ways,  promises to do this again,  can’t wait!

Then I went to the Georgia World Congress Center where the expo for the Hot Chocolate race is,  I had to pick up my race packet, toys is my fifth time participatingin the Hot Chocolate,  America’s Sweetest Race, second time for the 15k. It’s going to be c-c-c-cold! 29 degrees, feel of 15! Oh my!

After picking up my packet, a warm hat and gloves for running, I was set.  I’ll show you the swag tomorrow!

And in fine JJ tradition, I kept going! Off to see LGR and her family, husband MR and their adorable six year old,  CGR, what a cutie! Oh and their newest addition,  a Ridgeback named Belle. I can’t believe I don’t have pictures of her,  I’m sorry!

I do,  however, have pictures of CGR whether we were playing in her room, she has a stuffed animal collection that rivals FAO Schwartz!

We had some fun, LGR and I burying her under the animals then trying to get her to stay under until she could surprise daddy, apparently a much harder concept to convey! But third time is the charm, right!

Dinner and great conversation. We talked travel, families, travel, laughed, caught up,  work,  laughed, travel,  the usual.

Then back to the house,  a rousing game of hide-and-go-seek. I love that most kids are the same,  you how,  they find you,  they hide next in the same place! Still fun! Oh, and having a dog who stares at where you are hiding,  really funny!

Such a good time! But it was time for bed,  not sure who needed or wanted it more,  CGR or mommy and daddy!

Then off to RJS, a visit with her, her fiance, KS and the furry babies, Maddie and Max, then off to bed, I have to get up at 5:30am, parking closes at 6:30am! Race starts at 7:40am, oh my! Then brunch with friends.

Sweet dreams! Hot chocolate…

{January 19, 2016}   It’s like it was yesterday

Tonight I had dinner with a friend from high school.

We actually went to middle school together but didn’t become real friends until high school, does it really matter where we met? Not really, but we always talk about where we met people, especially when it’s been a long time.

HW and I hadn’t seen each other since high school, you know, college, life, I moved to Georgia,  the usual.

We connected on Facebook, as everyone does, and then we saw each other again in person at our twenty year high school reunion and it was love at first sight all over again! More like no time had passed and we were back in high school again.

We’ve kept in touch since then via Facebook and on the phone and tonight over dinner,  I’m glad she was free to meet. And just like the last time, no time has passed.

We caught up, reminisced, told stories, laughed, talked boyfriends, kids, family, work, travel, laughed, do you see a theme?

Yup, the image is definitely us, we were that goofy, free and wacky and thankfully, we have stayed true to ourselves since then, go us!

Hugs and kisses and promises to do this again, hopefully not before too long!

{January 17, 2016}   It’s art, isn’t it?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder,  right?

Today, after a very nice breakfast with I&L B and their daughter, J, who I went to high school with and haven’t seen in forever, great to catch up! LaLa, dad and I went into Manhatten and went to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

It’s one of our favorite museums. Sunday in NYC and cold, perfect place for all of Manhatten to be there!

We saw monkeys for the Chinese New Year,  gilded furniture, out of this world clocks,  impressionists and modernists and…ummm…yeah.

As I said,  beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
