{April 21, 2015}   Sunburn…don’t do it! Ouch!

I’m an idiot. Yes, I said it, I’m an idiot.

I went out in the very hot and strong sun without sunblock and I’m not sure if it was subconscious or not,  but I didn’t and I thought…”oh, it will be fine”. Not…

Well, a few hours later when I took a break,  I found out it was a mistake. I could tell where MGS had been sitting on my lap.  I put sunblock on,  might be helping for the days after,  but not that day and didn’t make me less of a lobster.

When I went to take a shower, it looked like I was still wearing a bathing suit, just in negative!

I am in pain in my shoulders and chest and the shins are the worst,  it gets tight for some reason, but…as I already said…it’s totally my fault.

The only plus…when this fades…I’ll have a fabulous tan  (fingers crossed!)

In the past, I would start my working on my suntan in the Spring by dropping the top on my convertible and go,  with sunblock,  staying nice with a bronzed glow for the season,  haven’t had much of a chance to do that in Buffalo!

Oh well..lesson learned!

{April 20, 2015}   What’s a payphone?

Out of the mouths of babes.

“What’s a payphone?” So asks EJS after we had mentioned something about a payphone.

Well,  EJS, it’s a phone that you put money in to make a phone call. Huh?

GES got a land line a while ago so the girls would know what a telephone was and how to answer the phone,  all they knew was the cell phone.  They now love answering the phone “Hello, S house,  who is this?”

I still remember answering and using the rotary phone growing up. Dialing a number,  making a mistake,  starting over…they don’t know how good they have it!

Isn’t it amazing how many things people take for granted? What we have compared to the way things were?

You kids…you have it easy.  Lol

{April 16, 2015}   Lip Sync Battle…LOVE IT!

I have found a new guilty pleasure and it’s name is LSB, Lip Sync Battle.

Not saying that I am going to DVR it or seek it out, but if I find it while I’m flipping channels, I’m definitely going to watch or maybe I’m going to look for it on Netflix or Hulu or YouTube. This is not an original idea, there have been lips sync contests for years, but this is just hitting at the right time.

The show is hosted by LL Cool J and has different celebrities competing against each other. I had heard about it and thought, yeah, ok, whatever, but someone posted the battle between Jimmy Fallon and The Rock and I was hooked, there is nothing like seeing Dwayne Johnson, 6’5, built massive dude lip syncing to Taylor Swift! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xn3tUOJ9yv4

After The Rock did Stayin’ Alive by the BeeGees in full Saturday Night Fever style and flair, LL Cool J asked The Rock, “Were those moves natural? Were they a gift?” his answer was “g-d delivered and I signed”!

You tell me, don’t they look like they’re having fun!

How can you beat that?

Enjoy! I am!

It really does. If you have a bad customer service experience, it can ruin the entire experience.

I know I’ve talked to you about good and bad customer service and I know you’ve heard me say “If you don’t like your job, get another one, it’s not my fault you don’t like your job, please don’t take it out on me”.

I have been places where the food has been fabulous, but the service was terrible, so I don’t go back. On the other hand, so-so food and good services, I would go back to the restaurant to give it another try to see if it might change my mind.

This is not limited to restaurants, I know we all experience good and bad customer service everywhere and have dealt with it in so many different areas. I have even asked if I offended the customer service representative, that sometimes changes the attitude. If I am about to get irate with someone, I tell them before I start that it’s not them, it’s the company, that helps.

Tonight was a great example. I went back to a restaurant for a third time because of the server. Papaya is a nice Asian fusion restaurant in Buffalo, http://papayarestaurant.biz/. The food is good, but the service last night and tonight, the best. Chris was our waiter when I was there last week with two co-workers. When I went back tonight, I asked for Chris and she was working and she remembered me, my eating concerns and was fabulous with suggestions and remembered how I like my water and tea.

It’s the little touches like that that go a really long way. I would recommend the restaurant, for the food, but more for the service. When you have someone who goes the extra step, it’s makes a difference, it’s something I strived for when I waited tables and it made a difference there too, people would come back to sit in my section time after time and my tips reflected it and the bottom line is, it helps the bottom line.

Be nice to people, as they say ‘you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar’.

There, I’m done, stepping down from the soap box.

When did we decide we need to know all the side effects.

Do you remember the ‘olden’ days when there was a commercial for a medication and you knew what it was for and what it would heal/fix, pretty simple.

Then…at some point it was decided that we needed to know what all the side effects were. Dry mouth, nausea, itchiness, watery eyes, dry this, itchy that, wet this, scratchy that and so on and so on.

When I see the doctor, they can tell me what the side effects might be or I can look them up online myself, of course, that doesn’t always help either, ha ha. But watching commercials with all the side effect is just depressing and makes me wonder if I would rather keep suffering from whatever I’m suffering from, rather than deal with the side effects.

I think Jeff Foxworthy said it pretty well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSdNMRtvq5g

Please, somebody just shoot me and put me out of my misery!

Growing up, I didn’t have allergies other than smoke and when I move to Georgia I still didn’t have allergies. But they say if you don’t have allergies, when you move to Georgia just wait…you will, and it’s true.

Several years before I moved to Colorado, I began to develop allergies  and as soon as the Spring began, my eyes get wet and dry, my nose runs and I can’t stop sneezing.

Spring became unbearable, until I found a great homeopathic remedy and then it wasn’t so bad, I would take the pill every 2 hours, let it dissolve on my tongue just as the instructions said. The instructions said and “let one dissolve on your tongue every 2 hours” and every 2 hours I would start sneezing so I became quite enamored with this particular allergy relief.

One of the things I was so excited about moving to Colorado was the fact that my allergies would not affect me or that it would not be as bad, at least that’s what I was hoping, and let me tell you when I moved to Colorado in the first year I sneezed maybe 3 times… because I had to sneeze and I was fine with that.

I remember coming to Atlanta last April to visit and my allergies kicked in very quickly. When I got here on Thursday I wasn’t here even 12 hours and my allergies started to kick in. Since then I have not stopped sneezing, my eyes are itchy, I have rubbed my right eye to the point where I almost have a bruise, and I’m miserable. I can’t take over the counter allergy medications because they make me drowsy, & I haven’t had the opportunity to go down to Little Five Points to pick up the herbal remedy and I’m not going to have the opportunity before I leave on Monday morning.

That means for the next day I have to deal with this because Buffalo hasn’t welcomed Spring yet so my allergies do not affect me in Buffalo…whoever thought I would be excited to go back to Buffalo where it still cold and winteresq!

Are my friends and family in Atlanta worth all this?  You bet your sweet bippie!

To give you an idea of the pollen count,  http://m.ajc.com/news/news/atlanta-weather-pollen-count-hits-season-high/nkqTt/. Just look at Facebook and if you have friends from Georgia,  the are bound to be done funny memes.

I am done with my pity party…I am going to close my eyes and dream about rain.  Ha ha

{April 9, 2015}   OMG, it’s H O T!

I have just arrived on the surface of the sun!

Ok, so not the surface of the sun, but close…I’m in Atlanta or, as affectionately know as Hotlanta! There is a reason it has this name, it was earned! It is almost midnight and it is 75 degrees…what?

I woke up in Buffalo, NY, where it was very cold and wet and rainy, I don’t know what the temperature was, but I was wearing my winter coat [long and down, that just sounds weird!]. As I was confirming what I was bringing with me to Atlanta, I thought, I don’t have a jacket, I know I won’t need my giant winter coat when I get there, but, I don’t have a jacket, well, duh…I landed about 9pm and it was still 80 degrees, think I’ll need a jacket?

The funny thing was when I was standing at the carousel waiting for my luggage, there was a woman next to me waiting for hers, we exchanged where we were coming from and it was obvious the temperature difference in our locations. I was wearing jeans, knee-hi suede boots and a long sleeve pullover. She was wearing a light flowy shirt, leggings and ballet flats, not exactly Buffalo attire, she was coming from Palm Beach, Florida.

I’m glad I remembered to pack some t-shirts so I won’t sweat my tush off this weekend! Then it’s back to the frigid North to Buffalo where I will need that coat on Monday, boo. I wanted warmer weather, like everyone else, but I wanted to ease into it, but that’s not the way things work here in hot sunny Atlanta!

I am going to appreciate what I have, thank you very much. Take the warm and sun with me next week when I shuffle back to Buffalo.

In the erectile dysfunction ads, what’s with the bathtubs?

What does an ED Salesperson say when you ask “How’s business?”  “Business is up” or “Business is on the rise”, yuk yuk yuk, thanks GES, loved it!

I get that they need to advertise, doesn’t everything need to be advertised, so sayeth the advertising community. And I know the tag line is something along the lines of ‘you never know when the moment will hit’ so therefore, you need to take a pill. I got that part.

What I still don’t get is why there is a set of bathtubs just randomly sitting there…on the beach, a cliff, a field..as if some random couple is going to be out and see the bathtubs sitting there in the middle of wherever and decide…ooh, let’s take a pill and sit in a random bathtub! Naked…

Now, I’ll give you that if I saw a pair of bathtubs sitting out somewhere, I would absolutely sit in them, but not naked and not just before I want to do, well, stuff.

That’s it, my thoughts on the random bathtubs.

I am sitting here with my mouth open thinking…did they really just say that?

Being in a hotel after work, sometimes I have the desire to just veg out in front of the tv, I need to not think, so I turn on the tv, I miss flipping channels sometimes, so I get my fix when I’m on the road.

Since I don’t know what shows are on when and what channel, I will just flip and find a station that I know and see what’s on. Sometimes its an actual show, like a sitcom, britcom, comedy, drama, dramady or, like now, mind numbing reality shows.

Now, let me clarify, I will admit that there are a few reality shows that I actually like, such as Face Off, http://www.syfy.com/faceoff, on SyFy or maybe Kitchen Nightmares, http://www.bbcamerica.com/kitchen-nightmares/, love me some Gordon Ramsay! Or maybe Bar Rescue with Jon Taffer, http://www.spike.com/shows/bar-rescue. It’s too bad I couldn’t find those shows tonight!

Tonight, it’s Little Women, NY, Little Women LA, Keeping Up with the really really rich [I have no idea how to spell their name], among others. What I don’t get is having cameras following people around 24/7 to catch every conversation, breath, fight, thought, meal, make up for whatever the fight was about and better yet, why do we care? Yet we, and I say the preverbal we, tune in to watch every action, every word, every movement. Do we watch because we want to see a fight? isn’t that why we go to hockey games?

Do we actually care what they have to say? Do we care about every fight? Every kiss and make up? And if we do care, why do we care? Why are we helping the rich get richer?

Ok, rant done.

Goodnight!

Happy Birthday to MS, who I’ve known since she was a wee tot and has grown into an amazing and fabulous young woman!

It may not seem it,  but there is a difference and this project reinforced it for me.

Dinner with the team is without really talking about it, the entire team goes to dinner, everyone takes turns deciding where the group will go to dinner, maybe everyone comes up with a list to try or one person says “ooh, what about here?” As well as when they will go, a lot of times you are all working together and decide when you’re done for the day, “ok, who’s ready to go?”

This group might even send a meeting invite for dinner, location TBD, but with an agreed upon time, it kind of sets an expectation of ‘we are so getting out of the office by …’ The main point is, you are going to dinner as a team and everyone knows it. That’s the way it’s been with the team I am working with now and I love it.

A team dinner is when there is an occasion or maybe it’s a once a month thing and someone organizes it, sends out the invite and everyone goes to dinner and socializes and has dinner and, I find, talk mostly about work. Not that you don’t talk about work at dinners with the team, it just doesn’t seem to be as much.

I enjoy team dinners because it gives you the opportunity to catch up with some people you might not get to see on a daily basis, but I’ll be honest, I really like dinner with the team a little better, when you work with people, then go to dinner, it’s like you’re with family, then when you don’t see them, you miss them. Since I’m training now, I don’t see them every day,so when we can get together for dinners, it’s a treat! We catch up on life.

As the project is wrapping up in the next few weeks, people are beginning to roll off and we won’t see each other every day, so these dinners are extra special, this team has been so much fun to be on, working with great people and going to fun places with great food, wahoo.

I wonder what’s in store next for us!
