{May 8, 2017}   Happy Birthday TYL!

I have to wish my daughter, TYL, a very happy birthday!

I met my daughter, TYL, in November of 1996, she was eight years old and a fireball. She was very sweet, smart, funny and skeptical, of me that is! How else could she be meeting me for the first time, not her mom, what was I going to be like and very protective of her brother. Understandable. But when the gate opened, oh boy!

She was a love, a goofball, a challenge and well worth it! We loved to play games, snuggle, watch movies, giggle, talk, travel, be silly, go places, shop, do nothing, sometimes that was our favorite part.

We had a typical mother-daughter relationship, we had our share of disagreements, and we could row, but in the end we never went to bed angry. I loved watching her face, the wonder, joy and amazement at life and what it had to offer. The way she examined and explored, took charge and took no, you-no-what from anyone!

To see how she has grown into an amazing human being, woman and mother amazes me every day. Reconnecting with her was nothing short of, well, it was what I needed in my life and I hope hers as well. We actually reconnected one year ago today when I messaged her on FaceBook to wish her a happy birthday.

May 8, always a very special day and quite often Mother’s Day, this year she gets her own day and when she celebrates her first Mother’s Day this coming Sunday, it will be something.

Happiest of happy birthdays to my baby girl, TYL. No matter where life takes us, you will always be someone I am proud to call my daughter. I love you.

{May 7, 2017}   Another fabulous day

How many more of these can I take? Um… let’s find out!

Up too early again, watched the sunrise with Mollie from the lanai in the hammock waiting for PSM to get up. Mollie said he really needed the sleep, and I agreed.  Before the hammock time, there’s a walk, medicine and breakfast,  oh, and a snack.

Hung out in the hammock for a while  reading Miss Peregeine’s Home for Peculiar Children. I really liked the movie, so I thought I would try the book, it’s great so far!

After PSM joined us, I made breakfast, should have taken a pic, it was good! Broccoli, pepper and cheese omelet with bagel, English muffin and pancakes.

Then to meet a few families on a local beach that’s pretty much locals only. Two tents, seven chairs, five SU Paddleboards, three coolers, seven adults, five kids, one dog later, we were set. And actually, that set up, aside from the time it takes to get the boards down, maybe 15 minutes. Impressive when everyone works together!

There was playing, splashing, swimming, paddling, talking, laughing, sunning, sleeping. Most of us got on our boards, not all of us made it very far, wink wink. It was choppier than normal and PSM made it around a few times, in and out of the water, I didnt get very far and spent more time in the water holding the board! Even the more experienced boarders had trouble staying upright, some did, very impressive! We decided more practice tomorrow, somewhere calmer.

A great morning/ afternoon. Time too pack it in about 4pm, home for a very quick shower, load the cooler back up and out to a going away party for of of the leads at one of the farms.

This was at a co-worker’s house. Mostly local folks, it was a great scene and a great time. Lots of good home made foods, ribs, poke, other fishes and meats and dessert, I’m sorry, I was remiss at my food picture taking job! Three tables of local goodness.

Talk about easy drink and be merry! This was a party for the guy who, during our first tour of the farms when we first came to Hawaii gave me a tour on one of the tractors! We’ll my first and only! He loved it when I told someone “And I think his tractor’s sexy!”

We had a really good time, everyone there was genuine and goofy and really loves PSM, how could I not be so proud of that! I met outgoing and incoming newbies, what a way to get indoctrinated to the culture.

Adults, kids, babies, teenagers, food, stories, cheering, videos, laughter, trying not to cry during speeches, introductions,  families, hugging, eating, drinking.

A really great time, well, a really great day.  Just another day in paradise, right?

{May 5, 2017}   Our garden

Well, our borrowed garden, we get to enjoy it while we rent out house.

We had a lawn maintenance crew come out yesterday to trim it all up since neither of us have green thumbs or really know what to do with what’s there. And there wasn’t any information on caring for  the plants we have.

So, now someone is going to make sure it’s kept clean and we don’t kill anything!

We have palm trees, a random orchid, grape leaves, a mango tree, basil, scallions and our very own pineapple! Sounds like a vegan’s paradise!

Or just paradise!

{May 4, 2017}   I’m home!

In my house! My own bed!  Well, I’m not alone here! I got my honey too!

My flights on Monday were uneventful, aside from really liking flying Delta to Hawaii, free entertainment, which United doesn’t always have and meals, which United definitely doesn’t offer.  Not just meals, but snacks at intervals and decent snacks at that. More Delta please.

I rented a car because it would be cheaper than a taxi from the airport home. I got in the house and someone  was very excited to see me. Her tail started going 90 to nothing and she circles me and loved on me and stuck by me like glue.

I had work to do, so I got down to it. I haven’t gotten home this early in a long time, I’m used to getting in nine or ten pm. I worked for a few hours then went to meet PSM at the gym, we sweat for a few hours, got some food, then home.

Oh, getting into my bed that night… there’s something to be said for sleeping in your own bed. Just me,  PSM and Mollie, not crowded at all!

Tuesday was more of the same, but getting up at 6am and starting work is not bad, get done early. I found someone local to come and help us with the foliage out back. There’s not much there, but we still need to take care of it. I’ll give you a better tour of what we have after its cleaned up.

Then the gym, come home, cook dinner, hang out, crash, very domestic and normal.

Today, up too early, oh well, that just means starting work early again. I started ast 430am, I called it quits at 1pm, then it was time on the lanai, hanging out in the hammock, relaxing. Ahhh

Guess what the evening held… Yup, more domestic bliss!

Tomorrow… work, then beach!

People can surprise you. Technology is pretty cool.

Now I’ll tell you why.

I hadn’t checked my Facebook messages in a few days and when I did, I discovered messages from last weekend from people who had found some of my things that had been stolen!

Two different sets of people found items, one was my wallet and keys, which they took to the police and the other was my work badge! They both found me on facebook, good thing my picture looks the same and messaged me!

How awesome are people and technology?!

Thank you nice people and thank you Facebook!

{April 25, 2017}   Solid one up… wow

Have you ever had that happen?

First, do you know what a one up is? Let me ‘splain… you tell someone something and they have to tell you something better that happened to them, or something worse.  One up.

We’ve all done it, either intentionally or not. “I wss so sick, this happened” “oh yeah? Well, I was so sick this happened!”.

Sometimes it’s fun and sometimes it’s funny. Did you ever see the movie Spy, with Melissa McCarthy? Jason Statham kept one-upping himself with the way he was injured, including getting killed and coming back to life!

So, mine was yesterday. I told my co-workers what happened in Maui,  lost badge, left my mouse, that stuff.  They were all sympathetic and had a few similar stories. These were expected and understandable.

I got to the gym and someone asked about my weekend, after I asked how theirs was and they had said good, nothing exciting. I said kinda sucked, we got robbed, barely had the words left my lips when he, same person said, I got hit by a car. What?

Immediately, focus was on him, as it should be, he got hit by a car! End of my story.

But that, my friends was a solid one-up.

{April 20, 2017}   A new movie…a new theater

The movie was good… theater, not as much.

DLP and I decided to go to a movie tonight and it was a choice of Boss Baby or The Smurfs. Since the only showing of Boss Baby, that wasn’t 3D left was 9pm, The Smurfs was it!

We went to a new theater and, well, you know how you get spoiled by some things and then compare everything to it, yes, I know you know I know all about being spoiled, haha. Well…AMC theatres have been renovating, to have the recliner seats, full menus instead of just snacks. One of the first was the one I used to go to in Colorado near my apartment.

There is one theatre in Chicago like that. The one we went to last night is converting. They’ve installed the recliners, good, not the wide, red ones, these were brown, slimmer and older, comfy when they reclined, but you got close to your neighbor.

You can’t order food from the theater, you go to the counter. They had just gotten the new menu and we were  informed that a few things weren’t available, we asked what was, that was a shorter list! Then…guess how many vegan options… big fat zip, nice. Even the other one we go to has salads and a veggie burger. Ok, enough about the theater…

Then the movie started, we could have had any seats, only two other people in the theater! That picture isn’t us, but it could have been!

It was cute! This was different from the last two, it was completely animated. They had some star power behind the voices, Mandy Patinkin as Papa Smurf and Julia Roberts as Smurf Willow, the leader of the lost village of Smurfs.

It was about family, love, understanding, teamwork, being true to yourself, knowing who you are, and that it’s not always where you start out, it’s who to choose to be, trust, the magic within and that love truly is the greatest magic there is.

I would also like to introduce you to Smurf Blossom and DLP may possibly referred to going forward as SB…

{April 17, 2017}   Spring is kicking my…

If you see me during this season, you might see a miserable human being, some days.

I wish you could hear how my grandma Molly used to say it, with emphasis, mis-er-ab-la creature. I didn’t have seasonal allergies when I was a kid. Then I moved to Georgia and after almost 18 years, bam! Achoo, achoo, achoo. They say if you don’t have allergies before you move to Georgia, you will.

So, here I am, sneezing my head off and it wears me out! Saturday, I sneezes so many times, I actually got knocked out, I had to take a nap!

I’ve tried all sorts of allergy meds, they all make me sleepy, its not fun. Today was no different and I feel terrible about it!

I got up early, actually overslept, I’m not sure if it had to do with the allergy med, the fact that I was exhausted from sneezing constantly or what. Then, I took one when at work and I was a littleoout of it, the worst part… tonight, DLP came to my hotel and we ordered in, sitting in front of the fireplace…we wanted to sit on the terrace, it was still a little chilly.

After we ate, I made the mistake of stretching out on the bed and all of a sudden I realized I had fallen asleep and was snoring! I sat up, didn’t help, I did it again! That was her cue!

After she left, I woke up, of course, but I don’t think I’ll make it much longer! Goodnight!

{April 7, 2017}   Real Milk… right

Seriously?

This is just my opinion…

I saw a commercial today for “real milk” and the benefits of real milk over almond milk. It was almost dairy free shaming.

I love milk. I miss milk. If I could drink milk without getting sick, I would. If I could eat ice cream without it sending me straight into stomach cramps, I would. If I could walk into a pizza joint for a slice, don’t you think I would?

I was diagnosed when I was 18 lactose intolerance and over the years it just got worse and worse.

When I was a kid, I loved milk and all things milk, especially an ice cold glass of strawberry milk with a pb&j. Once I realized I couldn’t have this I was heartbroken.

Then, someone came out with a milk substitute! What? Mmmmm. I was in heaven! I could have a glass of milk? Wahoo!

Over the years, there have been improvements and additions to milk and other products that are milk subdtitutes. Some are good, some not as good.

I can now participate! That’s amazing! I can have a glass of ‘milk ‘, I can have pizza, icecream, yogurt, a cheese  [veggie] burger. Wow!

So…if I could buy a gallon of ‘real’ milk…I would, but since I can’t, like countless numbers of people, having a substitute is ok with me.

So…stop milk shaming!!!

{April 1, 2017}   This is too cool!!

I la la la love Ms. Pacman!

No idea why Google Maps is doing this, but, it’s awesome!

I was on Facebook and someone posted “Go to Google maps!” I thought… why not! When I got there, Ms. Pacman was there waiting for me!

When I was a kid, I discovered Ms. Pacman and it’s been a wonderful relationship ever since! My dad, sister and I used to take half hour piano lessons at the JCC when we were kids. There was a stand-up  Ms. Pacman machine there! I volunteered to drake the first lesson and here’s why… if I took the first lesson, I had an hour to play Ms. Pacman!

I have trouble walking by a Ms. Pacman machine without putting in a quarter to play! One day, I hope to have one of my own! Sigh…

Go, check out Google maps, have fun! Chomp, chimp, chomp!
