{January 31, 2016}   What a weekend!

I went to Hawaii for the weekend, what did you do?

Man, that sounds so…well, I know what it sounds like, but it was awesome! Today was nice, thought about sleeping in, but the phone rang, mine, this time, totally understandable, people forget the time difference. No worries at all! We had coffee and tea and watched the sunrise, sigh…

Eventually, we got up, took showers and headed out to breakfast, another fabulous view, the ocean, that is, not the other clientele…

Rough life we lead…headed to the Disney hotel, found a place to park, luckily! There are only about 10-12 spots for in the free lot, we got there just as someone was pulling out. Then we walked across the street because I needed some slippahs. Now, you might say sandals or flip flops, but in Hawaii, you wear your slippahs. The ones I found happen to be Tevas that go across the top of the foot because I cannot stand anything between my toes! I like them, the only problem was the fact that I haven’t had a pedicure since I was in Hawaii in November! Please don’t look at my feet!

Then back across the street to the beach, ahhh…it wad beautiful, the water was a little cold, but still wonderful, so beautiful. We stayed at the beach a few hours, then had lunch overlooking the beach.

then decided we’d had enough beach, let’s check out the pool at the complex, ha ha!

We went back to the house, left the car abs walked to the pool for a little bit. It was nice, a small round pool, hot tub, two grills and lots of table and chair combos for eating. Towards five pm, people started coming to the pool with food for grilling, seemed like party central!

After a bit, we went back to the house to clean up and snuggled watching a movie before it was time to grab a bite to eat and head to the airport.

It was bittersweet, kind of like a regular weekend, I usually went home on Sundays in Boston, this would just be a little farther away.

We wanted to grab something quick and went to an unusual sushi restaurant, Genki Sushi. Doesn’t the logo look angry? The odd thing is that everything is on a carousel or conveyor belt that goes around the restaurant! Sushi, salad, drinks, wasabi, dessert! Bizarre! Not the best, but not awful. I was talking to someone at the Honolulu airport and she really likes it, maybe we need to go earlier in the day, hmm…

Then to airport, a quick goodbye, we cut it close, go figure. And here I am writing to hi from the airport.

A wonderful weekend, too short, as always, but wonderful. We are already talking about our next weekend together. Sigh…

Has it really been a year?

I cannot believe it! I’ll tell you more about that later, tonight I just want to share how we spent our day.

It started a little early. One of the things PSM said last night was “awesome, i have a reason to sleep in tomorrow!” Then he remembered that he was going to chat via FaceTime with JM, his nephew, at SIX am! It was good to see him and PSM’s brother, SM. We got to see Mollie, but she was not to be bothered, in sure she was just putting up a brave front for PSM!

We went back to sleep for a bit,  then got up and went to Longboard’s for breakfast. Longboard’s is one of the restaurants at the Marriott vacation club hotel. Nice view for breakfast,  wouldn’t you say?

image

We went back to the house to regroup and headed out. We were going to tour the east side of Oahu after we took my rental car back.

We missed a turn or exit and ended up somewhere fabulous! The Hunauma Educational and Environmental Nature preserve, what a gem!

image

It’s made up of coral reefs that have amazing life swimming and living in it and you have to be careful you don’t disturb anything by touching it.

We even got a treat of seeing humpback whales in the distance! I got some video, unfortunately,  I can’t seem to upload it,  sorry.

image

We walked the beach and sat under the palm trees, took the tram up and back,  rough life.

image

After we enjoyed ourselves for quite a bit,  we decided to go to a movie.  It was one of my ruses for my surprise this weekend. I suggested we go to the movies at the same time and keep our phones connected,  he loved the idea, now we could just go together! Even better.

We went to see Kung Fu Panda III, which we both really liked. And since it came out Friday,  perfect ploy of mine!

After dinner we went to the marina across the way and had dinner on the water at Kona Brewing Company, another fabulous view. How am I going to leave tomorrow?

image

Not a bad way up celebrate one year together. What a year!

My flight doesn’t leave until 10pm tomorrow,  what fun will we have? I’ll let you know!

I did it! I pulled off the surprise of the year! Literally!

We are one month into 2016, so technically, that is a true statement!

Tomorrow is a very special day,  it was one year ago,  PSM and I went on our very first date. Will I tell you more tomorrow,  of course,  but tonight…

As you know,  PSM moved to Hawaii on the 15th and the one question everyone keeps asking…”do you know when you first trip will be” and the answer, which I could never say in front of him is “YES!” I already had it planned out!

Now,  even though I knew what I wanted to do, I couldn’t book flights until I knew where I would be for work.  As soon as I found out the schedule,  I booked my flights to Hawaii right away.

I was trying to figure out how to work it out and ensure he would be there! He has to travel to the other Islands for work and yesterday was his first.  If he told me that he would be staying for more than an overnight,  I would have had to tell him,  but I was in luck!

I was trying to get him in one place so I could surprise him,  where would he be? I suggested a weekend virtual date..spend time together via phone and Skype this weekend. He bought it!

We’d “go to dinner”, watch a movie, all over two different ends of the country. How are we going to that he asked. Watch the movie and have our phones connected in the theater. DoubtingThomas,  but he agreed.

Luckily,  we don’t have to try that this weekend! I got in about 1pm, picked up my rental car,  then went for a drive. North shore for lunch, then I tried to get a mani/pedi from the same place when I was here last.  20 minutes later,  no parking,  so up towards PSM’s place,  he should be home soon.

I did go to get a mani, no time for a pedi, off to find him at the bar on the golf course. “So,  what’s the name of the place? I just want to look it up and picture where you are” awesome!

I called him as I was walking into the restaurant and asked him if he could have anything for his anniversary,  what would it be? He told me earlier in the week,  just seeing me, awe, love that!

As I was along,  I tapped him on the shoulder and the look on his face…priceless!! Surprised doesn’t cut it!

We’ve spend the rest of the day holding hands,  staring at each other, hugging and kisses, it’s been fabulous!

So much to do, so little time, so…I will bid you a fine adieu and go back to staring at my beau, gotta make it last!

Happy one year my love, here’s to the next and the next and the next. Uh oh, how do I top this??

Yeah right.

I get surveys from work,  I get surveys from Delta, the races in compete in. The bottom of my receipts from the drug store,  home renovation store have survey links.

“If you participate you could win $1000! You could win $5000! You could win an iPad!” We value your opinion!

Sure…

So,  I fill them out,  I participated, does it get me anywhere? Nope. Am I still going to do them? Probably,  maybe my suggestions will be heard and taken into account.

Maybe Delta could give me some sky miles, that would good,  don’t you think?

Sounds good to me.  Just fill out this survey and tell me what you think…

{January 27, 2016}   Another one? Really?

Another reality show, of course there’s a new one, why not.

I’m in a hotel this week so one of my guilty pleasures…channel surfing. Lifetime has another Little Women…this time it’s Little Women: Atlanta. Seriously?

It’s like The Real Housewives of…first there was Little Women: LA, then Little Women:NY, then a spin off,  now this.

They are just as nasty to each other as some people are on other reality shoes, nice to know.  Like a traffic accident,  hard to look away.

I really don’t have much more to say,  I could, but what’s the point, this isn’t the first and it won’t be the last. Yeah, that’s about it.

{January 26, 2016}   A bonehead move…

Ever had one of those? I did today, duh!

I was sending the two guys on my project two images of something and for some reason I added what I thought was part of the grouping.

Nope…it was the preoperative instructions for a procedure I had a while back! Why did I have a picture of it you might ask…I take pictures of paperwork so I can look at it whenever and if I lose the paperwork, I have a copy, makes sense, right?

If you did it yourself, did you laugh to the point of snorting when you realized? I did, go figure.

This wasn’t my first duh moment, think it still be my last? Not likely!

Happy birthday to my dear sweet friend RJS and new fab friend, CG!

Another jam packed day!

I spent the night at LBK’s, as you know, got up,  took a shower then sat down to get some work done.  Their middle daughter JK was still there waiting for carpool pick up to go to school.

Then it was just me and the three dogs. Then LBK came home from her first appointment and we went and had a very nice brunch. Then she went off to see her next appointment and I headed back to the house to get more work done.  AK came home unexpectedly and decided to stay and get some work done, had some network issues and went back to work. Somewhere in there,  I picked their youngest,  KK, up from the bus stop,  LBK asked if I world surprise her at the bus stop.  Of course!

Big surprise since we said goodbye last night! A little one-on-one time is definitely welcome!

Then everyone was home and eventually I left after another goodbye…got on the phone with DL, and had a fabulous time talking and catching up, made the drive that much more enjoyable!

And…KAB texted with some great news,  can’t tell you yet,  but I was tickled that she told me right after it happened! Think I teared up? You bet your sweet bippie!

I stopped at the grocery store and picked up two frozen pizzas, one gluten-free and vegan for me and some one serving ice cream cups. Then I headed to SDL’s house,  I had dinner plans with CKM and Miss A. You know I never miss a visit opportunity with Miss A!

SDL wasn’t home yet,  she has class tonight for her EMBA program,  how fabulous is she!! I knew I would see her later.

When I got there, Miss A was having some dinner and then it was potty, bath and bed.  I got to do one of my favorite things, brush and braid her hair before bed.  After teeth were night night kisses and secrets and smooches and the occasional smack in the face, mine! And promises of future visits.

Then CKM and I went downstairs and had pizza, conversation, laughs,  catching up,  talking about ex’s and Facebook and….you know how all of this goes. As always, a great time,  especially the laughing!

About 930 SDL got home, we talked about class, how the night went and then it was just me and SDL. These are some of my favorite times as well,  just the two of us sitting in the kitchen drinking tea and talking in our jammies.

As with all of my favorite people,  catching up, laughing,  being silly, we talked about work,  life,  Miss A, oh boy do we talk about her,  what a wonder!

We also did some tech support stuff and before you knew it, it was one am! Morning comes early for them and I have a flight to catch at 8am to Buffalo, so out the door by 545am, wahoo!

I’m sure I’ll see them in the morning to say goodbye.

To you I say,  what a weekend! Good night!

A typical day for me, right?

I signed up to do the Hot Chocolate 15k, my second 15k and fifth or sixth Hot Chocolate Race, “The Sweetest Race in America”. I picked up the packet yesterday, as I mentioned and there was my bib and an embroidered jacket. Embroidered? Did I sign up for that? Nope, it was a perk of registering early! I like it! All the jackets had the name of the race, the special ones say Atlanta 2016, pretty cool! The women had blue trim and the men, orange. They also coordinated the bags this year, only orange or blue.

The only things I bought at the expo were throw away gloves, a hat and a neck scarf, kind of like the ones I wear to ski, but this has the Hot Chocolate logo and it matched my jacket!

I didn’t even realize I had paid for parking, but I had and I’m glad I did, I didn’t have to search for a place to park or take a shuttle, bad part…the lots closed by 6:30am, so I had to be there before they closed and my corral didn’t start until 7:40am! I was staying with RJS, so much fun, as always. My alarm went off at 5:30, then I snoozed and about 10 minutes later I heard “JJ, time to get up!’

I got dressed, got in the car and was out the door by 5:50am, in the parking lot by 6:20 and I could not fall asleep, so I hung out until about 7:30 and then braved the cold to head to the start.

When I say cold and Georgia, no one believes me. It was TWENTY FOUR degrees and with the wind chill, it felt like 15! By the time I crossed the finish line it was 29, ooh, heat wave! I had hand warmers that I had gotten when I was in NYC, but I didn’t think about food warmers, I wish I had!

My corral didn’t start until about 8am, I wasn’t going to run at all, because I haven’t trained or run since the half marathon in Lisbon October 18th, but…it was so cold I said f-it! Sorry for those of you who are sensitive, I know that was harsh! Just to warn you, there might be more!

When we started, I ran because I couldn’t feel my toes, so perfect thing to do to get the circulation going. I ran about half a mile, then walked, then ran. I ended up walking most of the way and I’m ok with that. About mile two they said you could split off and do the 5k, especially with the weather being so cold. I was thinking about it and I said, nah, f-it! I want my medal, so march on! Look, it was really cold, a little harsh language was called for!

Let’s just say that in the end I was pleased with my decision to keep going, but about mile 6 and 7, I was thinking, this is f-ing nuts! Then it was mile 8, then 9 and there was the finish line. There were times I was tricking myself, just like everyone else “It’s just three 5ks” or “We just did a 5k, let’s do another” “I just finished the 5k, only 6.1 miles left” “Less than 2 miles, you can do it!’

I crossed that finish line and I was so happy, I got my medal and headed towards the after party. As I was passing a police officer, I joked, because I had the scarf around my face “We could go from the finish line to roving a bank”, he laughed. I said on not going to, he thanked me.
image

Speaking of thanking, I made sure to thank a bunch of volunteers and police for being there today, awesome people.

I went to RJS’ to shower and head out. If I had more time, I would have taken an ice bath, I really need that relief right about now. I never would have believed it before I tried it!

I visited with RJS a little while longer, then headed to Decatur to meet some friends for brunch. It was C & J C and their adorable son, M, doll baby!

M had even made me a card and put some candy in a bag for me, I loved it! You know me, anything hand made!
image

We had a really nice lunch and caught up, then after I stopped in a store and bought something for PSM, I think he’ll like, then I went to meet TS at the movies. We had decided on Hotel Transylvania, but Goosebumps was there, so we saw that instead, it was great! And I am not a Jack Black fan, so I must have really liked it!

We got into the theater and there was no one in there until about five/ten minutes before the movie, we sat in the theater and talked until everyone else showed up, then it was quite packed.

From there, I went up to see L&AK and their three girls, K, J and K. Whenever I am here, it’s like no times has passed, like we had just seen each other or spoken last week. One of my favorite things, all three girls call me Aunt J…they were the first and I love them so! L is like a sister to me, we’ve known each other forever, I love this family!

L had picked up a salad for me at “Whole Paycheck” otherwise known as Whole Foods and she and I sat and ate, everyone else had eaten earlier. We talked about everything and no one, we were all caught up. I talked to her husband A, during the commercials, he was watching football and I love spending time, just being around my girls.

L and I talked until about 11:30 and then shuffled off to bed. Here I sit writing to you ready to crash out when I finish this post.

So, we covered a race, a brunch, the movies, dinner and a visit.

I’m sure your day was just as fabulous, what did you do?

{January 23, 2016}   There’s a kid under there!

Today was another great and busy day. I’m in Atlanta, what else would it be?

I got in yesterday about 545pm, just as the snow started to fall. I picked up my rental car and headed to JCT’s house for the night.

I picked up food on the way and got to catch up with JCT and “mom” when I got there, just the three of us,  it was great.  We talked about her trip to China,  family,  the works. JCT’s daughter,  ST,  had her wisdom teeth pulled earlier that day,  so she was in bed,  get dad was up there taking care of her.

We talked even after mom went to bed, we both fell asleep in the big comfy chairs, it was awesome.

This morning, we got up,  had breakfast,  hung out with the rest of the family. As I was leaning,  JCT’s mom almost made me cry. She said she loved me and she had two daughters, I love that! I don’t call her mom a just a term of endearment!

Then JCT and I left to meet RJS for lunch. Such a treat! The three of us met in October of 2009 when we worked together,  with ST as well and the wonderful,  we’ve all stayed friends and when we can, we all get together,  doesn’t happen as often as we’d like, but when we do,  even sweeter.

We caught up, laughed, reminisced, laughed, goofed around, swapped stories about work,  life,  relationships, laughed. Have you noticed there is a theme with my friends?

After a nice long leisurely lunch, we went our separate ways,  promises to do this again,  can’t wait!

Then I went to the Georgia World Congress Center where the expo for the Hot Chocolate race is,  I had to pick up my race packet, toys is my fifth time participatingin the Hot Chocolate,  America’s Sweetest Race, second time for the 15k. It’s going to be c-c-c-cold! 29 degrees, feel of 15! Oh my!

After picking up my packet, a warm hat and gloves for running, I was set.  I’ll show you the swag tomorrow!

And in fine JJ tradition, I kept going! Off to see LGR and her family, husband MR and their adorable six year old,  CGR, what a cutie! Oh and their newest addition,  a Ridgeback named Belle. I can’t believe I don’t have pictures of her,  I’m sorry!

I do,  however, have pictures of CGR whether we were playing in her room, she has a stuffed animal collection that rivals FAO Schwartz!

We had some fun, LGR and I burying her under the animals then trying to get her to stay under until she could surprise daddy, apparently a much harder concept to convey! But third time is the charm, right!

Dinner and great conversation. We talked travel, families, travel, laughed, caught up,  work,  laughed, travel,  the usual.

Then back to the house,  a rousing game of hide-and-go-seek. I love that most kids are the same,  you how,  they find you,  they hide next in the same place! Still fun! Oh, and having a dog who stares at where you are hiding,  really funny!

Such a good time! But it was time for bed,  not sure who needed or wanted it more,  CGR or mommy and daddy!

Then off to RJS, a visit with her, her fiance, KS and the furry babies, Maddie and Max, then off to bed, I have to get up at 5:30am, parking closes at 6:30am! Race starts at 7:40am, oh my! Then brunch with friends.

Sweet dreams! Hot chocolate…

I know I’ve talked about customer service before, I will probably do it again.

Oh look, here I go again!

I picked up a rental car in Atlanta, waited on line for about 30 minutes,  then it was my turn. I was lucky enough to get the guy who doesn’t smile and was smarmy.

At one point,  I actually said that he should smile,  it would help with customer service. His co-worker laughed and said I called him out. I was jovial about it. He said he was smiling, yeah,  right.

Then he gave me something to sign and looked at me expectantly. Um…do you think a pen might help? The woman next to me gave me a pen, thanks. It went on from there.

Then I went to the car in the assigned spot, no key,  I have to go into the hut to get the keys.  Never looked me in the eye,  and was curt. I know it’s cold out,  but it’s not my fault.

If you don’t like your job,  please find another. Until that time, make the best of it and smile!thank you.
