This is my post that didn’t want to post on Friday…

First of all…I’m home! for the weekend! I do love getting to go home!
I got in Thursday night, nothing exciting there, except for Mollie and PSM picking me from the airport, sigh.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, I woke up about 4am, that’s normal for PSM, not so much for me, I’ve usually just fallen asleep by then! We got up, he had a call at 6am and I started working, which was about 8am central time, so a little before normal working hours on this project, which means I am done about 130, not bad, huh?

About 230, I met PSM at an appointment in Honolulu, after we went to an outdoor mall, a really nice and huge one, apparently it had been built in ten stages, looks like it! There are actually maps to take with you, that’s how big! I had an exchange to make and it’s nice to walk around and get a drink, the traffic to get home would be ridiculous, we were planning on hanging out.

After a drink and some live music, we went to one of my favorite vegan restaurants I used to go in Atlanta, The Loving Hut, it’s actually an international chain, so excited to find it here! [TS and SF and I used to go together all the time!] He really is a good sport for going with me.

Then we headed back towards home and went to see Moana, a new Disney animated movie. It’s about an ancient Polynesian tribe, the demi-god Maui and Moana, the chieftain’s headstrong daughter. In true Disney fashion, there is a strong, young female lead, different, her parents are both still alive and stay that way through the entire movie!

She has a mind of her own, frustrates her father, wants to do what’s right, but also wants to follow her heart. She sets off, against her father’s wishes, to bring back the heart to her people and the land.

Along the way she meets Maui, finds out who she is and what she’s made of and what’s truly in her heart.

It was a great movie, so much fun to see it in Hawaii and the kids in the crowd added to the experience. Two thumbs up!

{December 1, 2016}   Fall in love in a few days?

Every Hallmark Christmas movie, really?

Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t experienced it, but I’m a believer in love at first site, I’m a hopeless romantic. But every Hallmark Christmas movie seems to take place just a few days before Christmas and the main characters who don’t know each other, don’t like each other, don’t remember each other fall in love after meeting, well at least three days later.

And please, don’t misunderstand, I love these movies, bad acting and all, I just want to know who thinks this is possible and happens all the time! We’re watching the movies to escape and I guess we are escaping, just curious about this phenomenon.

And…some of the commercials on the Hallmark Channel are really getting to me! I need a box of kleenex!

{August 31, 2016}   A legend lost

Monday,  the world lost a beloved legend.

I was saddened very much by the loss, as i saw so many people on Facebook felt the same. It’s sad news when someone passes and there are times that we are affected more than others. And it’s really interesting when it’s a celebrity.

We didn’t know him personally, well, I didn’t, but it still made me very sad,  maybe because we knew about him, he enriched our lives, made us laugh and forget about reality when we watched his movies, we have a smile on our face.

A evident by the articles and posts, he was, of course, most well known for his role as Willy Wonka. It’s a role that crosses generations, there are stars  that pass, older stars, that younger generations have no idea who they are or might know them from a role in their later years and i know from even before my time. But so many generations have seen Willy Wonka, because it’s a classic.

One of the things I loved about him was his love affair with the love of his life,  Gilda Radner. They met while filming Hanky Panky. She was smitten immediately, “It felt like my life went from black  and white to Technicolor”, wow!

“On the first night of filming near the Hudson River, she looked at me and started to cry,” Wilder said in a 2012 interview. “I asked, ‘Why are you crying?’ and she said, ‘because I know I’m going to marry you.’ I said, ‘We’re going a little fast here.‘”

“She was just so active about everything and the way she felt — her crying, her laughing, everything. Then when the film was over and she was going to fly back home, she kissed me and then said, ‘If you ever want to get in touch with me, tell my manager Bernie Brillstein, ‘The ducks are in the pond.’ When I got back home I suddenly dropped to my knees and started weeping that she wasn’t there. So, I called Bernie and told him, ‘The ducks are in the pond.’ He said, ‘OK, I understand,’ and we were together for a long time after that.”

What do you say to that!!!

One of the other things that struck me was that no one knew when he was ill and why.  He said that her put a smile on people’s faces and her didn’t want to taint that. If he was recognized by a child, he didn’t want the smile to be followed by a discussion about illness. A true gentle soul.

I don’t think there is a Gene Wilder movie i haven’t seen, there are some tv roles people reminded me of, i may or may not have seen them, but the. Admittedly, not all are my favorites, but i did like them all. But…i am going to tell you about my favorites.

Willy Wonka is iconic, of course, and wackadoo! Ever wonder who was doing drugs when they filmed some of the scenes? Blazing Saddles, so many amazing quotes from that movie. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes Smarter Brother, one many people have never seen or heard of, Young Frankenstein, how many times have you quoted this movie?

Haunted Honeymoon, not many people talk about this one, its a great one with Gilda Radner, among other great actors, follow that with Hanky Panky  and the Woman in Red. Stir Crazy and Silver Streak, his collaboration with Richard Pryor was legendary.

Ever see Start The Revolution without Me? Last of the Red Hot Lovers? The Frisco Kid with Harrison Ford? Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* But Were Afraid To Ask?

Some of these are my go- to movies, I’ve seen them hundreds of times and I might see them a hundred more.

“See this hand?” ‘Steady as a rock ‘ “yeah, but this is the hand i shoot with!”

“Puttin’ on the Ritz”

“What do you mean widower than what?”

You will be missed, thank you for what you gave us and brought to our lives…

Joy.

{August 20, 2016}   Bad Moms

I’m a bad mom, my sister’s a bad mom,  are you a bad mom?

If you have the opportunity, go see this movie! GES and I both wanted to see Bad Moms and today was a good day for it.

We met at a theater in between us a while before the movie, walked around and talked, it was nice.

Then it was time for the movie, we got some popcorn, candy and drinks, exact movie watching food. We settled into our seats, reclined and settled in for 20 or 25 minutes of previews, I’m not sure if I could tell you what they were!

Mila Kunis is the lead, she’s the perfect mom, or so she thinks, two kids, husband, job, gets the kids where they need to go, everything is perfect…sure…now she’s the feed up mom

Christina Applegate is the stay at home perfect mom PTA president for the past six years and a tyrant. Jada Pinkett Smith is the judgy mom,  Annie Mumolo is the very clueless mom, Kathryn Hahn is the single, and let’s face it,  slutty mom, and Kristen Bell is the frazzled stay at home mom.

They want it all, but they are just human and can they really do it all? Ever worried that you’re a bad parent? Screwing up your kids lives? Been told, by your kids,  that you suck, you don’t know what you’re talking about? Normal,  yes,  I said you’re normal.

I love my kids, but I remember days looking at them like they were aliens. I remember the day I got my first eye roll, the sigh, the  I’m never going to be like you. I freaked out here and there,  but no need, normal.

And that’s what this movie is about,  women finally remembering that they’re people,  human and allowed to cut loose, have a moment, let the kids go without brushing their teeth once, doing their homework on the bus, being,  well…a bad mom. That makes you human.

So…are you a bad mom?

Go see this movie and find out!

{August 19, 2016}   American Ultra

Um…yeah…

Stoner stone cold killer? Sure.

That’s pretty much it,  Jesse Eisenberg is the stoner and Kristen Stewart is his stoner girlfriend.  He works at a convenience store and has a severe fear of travel and leaving town.

Then…it turns out he was a sleeper agent who was reactivated and wow. Or I should say pow, smack, kill!

Lots of guns, blood, knives and death by frying pan, go figure.

All he wanted was to go home with his girlfriend,  smoke weed and hide under the covers.

Not exactly how it ends,  but they get there.

What?

For those of you not in the know,  you’re thinking this girl is crazy and does not know her history,  maybe she was absent that day.

For those of you who knew instantly,  rock on! Tonight, I went to a movie theater to see Animal House on the big screen! It was awesome!

I went with my friend from work, DLP. I asked her Monday if she wanted to go with me and she did! We left the office, went to have some dinner then movie! No previews,  which was bad because we got there at 704pm, the restaurant was next door, and I needed the potty! I came in just as it was starting,  there was a little intro from like you see on TCM, some background about the movie and the actors,  then they were off!

I have to apologize to DLP, I quoted lines as it went, I’m usually pretty good about it, but I couldn’t help it tonight!

It was so much fun to see it on the big screen! I don’t know how many times I’ve seen this movie,  but never on the big screen! It was awesome!

My one regret…not seeing it with my dad!

What’s next?

{August 13, 2016}   Suicide Squad

Surprisingly, better than I expected.

Or should I say pleasantly? Nah, nothing pleasant about this movie,  technically.  But,  it was good.  When I saw the preview,  I had mixed feelings, it had some great star power, good premise and I was either going to love it or loathe it, I feared. Then the reviews started rolling in and…

Great cast of bad guys, which I say loosely, since Harley Quinn, played by Margot Robbie, is most definitely not a guy. They are called “meta humans”, they have some form of ability or ailment or whatever that makes them a little different and special, like Batman and Superman, we’d never call them mutants, huh?

You have Harley Quinn, love interest of The Joker and quite possibly more bat-sh*t crazy than he is, if that’s possible. He is the one who made her that way. The Joker is played by Jared Leto and oh my,  ku ku for Coco Puffs! In this movie, he’s more like a gangster or mafia boss.

Will Smith plays Dead shot, a hit man who never misses a shot, unless he wants to. I have to say quite impressive…and only one thing that can penetrate that thick skin..his 11 year old daughter.

Jay Hernandez plays Diablo, basically a human torch, not just a human torch a bad arse human torch,  he gets to really show his stuff towards the end of the movie, you’ll be surprised.

Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje plays Killer Croc, um…yeah. well, I liked him.
Cara Delvigne plays Dr. June Moone and The Enchantress. She was a great bad guy, except when she was doing this weird rocking, gyrating whatever calling evil spirits,  bad juju whatever, it kind of killed it for me.

Joel Kinnaman played Rick Flag, the soldier in charge of this merry band of murderers. No special “metahuman” anilities, except for being able to control The Enchantress,  since he and June are in love.

Viola Davis, I’m convinced,  was born to play human reprobate with no conscious. I was was on the fence after watching How to Get Away With Murder, not anymore.

Even Ben Affleck, as Batman,  made an appearance at few times.

All in all, a good graphic novel come to life, monsters, bad guys, superheroes. But under it all,  the real stories…three love stories…the love of a dad for his daughter, the love of two completely insane individuals and the love of a soldier for his lady love inhabited by a six thousand year old angry witch. What more could you want?

A sequal.

Don’t worry, it’s coming,  just sit through the credits.

Got your attention, didn’t I?

Well…the day started at ST’s house, I crashed at hours place last night when I got to Atlanta. We motivated and went to Waffle House! Yum!

I worked for a few hours then fought Atlanta traffic to get to Dallas and see KAB, Baby A and his sister Baby E, CS, Lily Bean and her sister, Princess L. It took me almost three hours to get there so I didn’t have a lot of time with them,  but the time was well spent! As many hugs, kisses and snuggles as I could get. Oh and the giving of gifts of course!

I left just in time…as the no nap melt downs were about to start. Oh my but I do love those fabulous wee tots! Their mom’s too! And how much do I love my new artwork for our new place in Hawaii!! JJ’s ‘tweet hearts’! Those are Baby A and Baby E’s footprints turned into birds!
I left and headed straight to girls night dinner with two of my besties,  SDL and CKM! We had Thai food, lots of laughs and catching up and then on to the movies to see JB…the new Jason Bourne movie! CKM noticed when we were sitting, she was in a J sandwich,  ha ha.

After the movie,  back to SDL’s, kiss the sleeping Miss A, talk to you and then pass out. Full day,  huh? Wonderful day! Let’s see what tomorrow holds!

Today I had a movie date. Well,  two dates to be precise.

EJS is leaving for sleep away camp in the morning for three weeks and I’m going to be gone for two weeks and I thought it would be nice to have a movie date with them and they agreed.

We loaded up in the car and headed to the movies. We got some popcorn and sour patch somethings, not for me, I can assure you! We found some seats and settled in.

It was a great movie, taking place in one day and my…was it a busy and long day!

As the tag line says “Ever wonder what your pets do when you’re not home?” So, I just ask you, do you ever wonder?

Different personalities for each pet, how they react towards and interact with their human companions and how they react and interact with each other. How they work together to solve a problem, learn to accept each other and when they don’t, asserting dominance, or trying to.

Sticking with your friends, sticking up to your friends and even telling your friends where to stick it!

There were a lot of funny scenes, we had some nail biting scenes with Animal Control and then there was the sewer scene with all the “Flushed Pets”, these were the pets no one wanted anymore, so they lived in the sewers, even they were funny! Especially when their leader is a teeny, adorable bunny named Snowball.

There was a point when Max and Duke got caught by Animal Control and EJS wanted to make sure they would be reunited with their human.  I told her not to worry, this is a Disney movie.

All in all a great movie and a fabulous time with my girls. Holding hands, being silly, sittng in my lap when they get nervous, hugging me,  do I love it? You bet your sweet bippie I do!

Go see it,  totally worth it! You just have to get your own dates! Mine are taken!

{July 22, 2016}   Star Trek Beyond

Saw it…loved it…will own it.

There.  Enough said. Nah,  not really,  ha ha.

First,  I must admit, I didn’t love it as much as the first two,  but I loved it nonetheless. They’ve been in space exploring for three years and you see how its affecting everyone in different ways.

There have been opportunites for adventure and peace keeping and Kirk seems to have learned something from his past experiences, seeming to make him appreciate his role as Captain more or at least embracing the responsibility or “respecting the chair” as Captain Pike told him once.

There are a few internal and some obvious struggles, revelations, relationships, questions, and some head scratching moments. It was slow at times, others at warp speed and times I was wondering what the plot or point was. I figured it out eventually.

All the main characters were back, mixed feelings seeing Anton Yechin and the small tributes to Leonard Nimoy. I can’t reveal, but a main character, can I say that? was destroyed.

There was action, resourcefulness, light, dark, tricks, huh moments, McGuyver moments, their traditional one liners, humor, heartbreak. Simon Pegg, who plays Scott you, co-wrote it, what a treat!

ACS and I have started a tradition, I guess, we saw the last one together and he was the first one I thought to ask to go, now we’ve gone to two Star Trek premiers, ready for the next one,  when it’s it?
