Ever been somewhere the walls are really thin?

One of my first apartments in Atlanta had walls so thin I could hear people next door playing the electric guitar without sound and brushing their teeth.

I may have mentioned that I pretty much live in hotels being on the road 100% for work.  Well, some of those walls are, let’s say thin.

You hear a lot of things in hotels. Music, tv, people talking heatedly, having sex. To be fair, the sex one makes sense because people can get loud, it’s annoying when you’re trying to sleep, but there you go.

Well, I was walking by a room the other day and all I heard was someone farting! Not really what I ever expected to hear as i walked by! For some reason I found this quite humorous in an old, historic, fancy hotel, just seemed out of place.

I’m not disparaging the person for doing it, I was just surprised and it turned me into a little kid who found this incredibly funny!

I had been texing ST and he was quite punny about it, said it should definitely be a blog post. 50 Shades of Smell…The Bathroom Diaries. I said don’t stop, you’re on a roll [tp]. Yuck yuck yuck…[oh my, i just realized what I typed! I meant it as a laugh, not a reaction! Ha ha ha!]

I used to be like that…sigh, I miss those days.

Yesterday, I flew to Salt Lake City. I sat next to a nice guy heading home to Lake Tahoe. We talked tech, movies, skiing, travel, pets, smartphones. He asked why I didn’t have an iPhone, being such a techie. I love my answer!! “I’m allergic to apples!!!!” Muwahaha!

We also talked about sleeping and sleeping on flights. I mentioned that I don’t sleep much or on my flights and he said he could sleep anywhere and he did…

I asked him if he wanted to stop talking so he could get some sleep, he said no and about thirty minutes later I look over and he’s out…

He woke up when we landed and had a good laugh.

{March 24, 2017}   A chilling tribute

There is too much violence in the world. That is an understatement…

This week I’m in DeKalb, Illinois doing support and I’m staying near NIU, Northern Illinois University. I told dad and his question… do they have tshirts?!

So yesterday after work, I stopped by the NIU campus bookstore to get dad a shirt, got one for me too, I know, shocker!

While I was walking to the bookstore, I saw all of these markers. Crosses with hearts, names, dates, ages, numbers. Some had photos, some had flowers. I knew it was a tribute to something and someone, but I wasn’t sure what they were for.

I had a feeling it was for those who had passed on, possibly students from the university, but then I noticed the ages. They ranged up and down the scale, men, women, children, races.

I asked in the bookstore and was told it was to honor those killed in Chicago so far this year. If there are more before the prayer vigil and duscussion tomorrow, there will be more markers.

Greg Zanis, the man who carved the crosses and began the tribute, who is a non-for-profit carpenter, feels that this is the petefct way to raise awareness of what is going on in Chicago and the university is the perfect place with so many students who live in Chicago.

You can read the full article here. http://amp.daily-chronicle.com/articles/2017/03/21/ce46f3bee0504d689ab82637dc788eec/

It was chilling and makes you think. You know there is violence in the world, you know it can be in your backyard, but unless it touches you directly, you may not realize just how close you are.

There are 128 markers here. It’s only March 23rd.

Oh my! Have you ever dealt with an energy vampire?

Do you even know what an energy vampire is? An energy vampire is someone who sucks the energy out of you or out of the room.

As a trainer, I deal with all sorts of people and attitudes all the time. I was on a project at a hospital once and a doctor, who was also the department head said “we’re all just overgrown teenagers, don’t let us get to you!” That actually helped with some groups.

I don’t stress out or get offended by what people say, in terms of the applications I am teaching, there are a lot of reasons they may be resistant. Some pout, some come kicking and screaming, some give you that look, you know, “ok show me something, prove yourself”, you know, teenagers! Now, other are polite and let me walk them through things and sometimes they learn a something,  ya never know!

The thing you remember, it’s not me they’re directing this at, I’m just the wall they’re slinging at.  They don’t know me personally,  I’m the one they’re taking their feelings out on. None of it has stopped me or scared me off, I keep coming back.

Recently two people really tested me. They exhausted me, sucked my energy, scwooooop [sucking sound, ha ha].

One never stopped talking while I was trying to show them the system. This person kept clicking buttons on the screen, “I usually do this and this and that and this and that” it went on for a minute…even when people are experienced, sometimes I can tell them something they didn’t know or maybe give them a trick or two or a shortcut. This person had no time or interest, not even as a courtesy, so I stepped back and said, “you do what you normally do and I’ll watch, ask me questions if you have any”.

The other person was very self important and very knowledgeable in a lot of areas, but not 100% in one of the things I was showing them.  Didn’t matter, they were going to tell me what they thought every step of the way and how they did this and that and this makes no sense and why do we do that, not efficient. They also seemed to hate their keyboard! Remember the older keyboards you had to mash the keys or someone who tries to kill the keys? This is not one of those keyboards, this is just that person! I couldn’t put my hands on the desk, it kept jumping!

I kept my cool with both, smiled and did what I could for them, stayed positive and encouraged where I could. I talked to their managers about how it went and since the managers know them, it wasn’t a complete surprise.

It happens, you can’t have total angels every time, right?! Tomorrow is a new day!

No, I’m not a three year old! Well, maybe sometimes!

I’m staying in a hotel that has one of those newer elevator system, where you enter the floor you want on the touch screen near the elevators and it displays which elevator to take.

The hard part is, when you walk into the elevator car, you still look for the buttons to push and all you have are the open and close buttons, oh and the emergency buttons. And everyone sees you looking and smiles because they did the same thing!

Then, there’s that momentary feeling of being incomplete because you didn’t push the button or ask someone to push the button or watch someone push the button. Of course, at that point you’re almost transported back to childhood when you fought over pushing the buttons!

Do you remember those days? Of course you did because inadvertently, you end up in an elevator with a little kid who just has to push the button or it gets ugly!

It’s ok, I’m over it, I’ll push the buttons on the next elevator, well, as long as there’s no kid on it!

{March 16, 2017}   Pie and dressing?

Two dates in March get some fun poked at them.

First date…March 14th. Second date…March 15th. So, what am I talking about?

Well, March 14th is affectionately also known as Pi [pie] Day, get it..Pi 3.14! Ha ha ha.

This fun tribute was started by Larry Shaw, a physicist, in 1988. He and his staff walked around with and eating pies. Sounds sweet to me!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi_Day

Second date…March 15th. If you think back to what you learned in school, The Ides of March. The date of the death of Julius Caesar.

The death of Caesar made the Ides of March a turning point in Roman history, as one of the events that marked the transition from the historical period known as the Roman Republic to the Roman Empire.

So, two interesting days next to each other that we can play with. Fun facts.

Only problem…I didn’t get any pie yesterday or a Caesar salad today. Oh well…

Now, our day was full, but this is too cool.

We were at the airport waiting for PSM’s aunt and uncle to land and we looked at the clock. We were doing some calculations that didn’t seem to be working out when I remembered that daylight savings happened today at 2am.

Something to keep in mind, if you didn’t already know, Hawaii doesn’t observe daylight savings like the rest of the country. There are several states that don’t.

As we’re looking at the clock, it’s too cool because parts of the country still haven’t changed yet.

During the winter, Hawaii is five hours behind the east coast, three behind central, three behind mountain and two behind the west coast. During the summer, east coast is six hours ahead, central is five hours ahead, mountain and west coast will be four ahead.

The cool thing is watching as the time changes in the different time zones eventually. When you know off the top of your head what it should be, but it hasn’t hit 2am everywhere, it’s confusing! Hey, if you don’t know it to begin with, oh brother.

It was ten pm when we looked at the clock and watching as the time changed across the country. East coast and central had already changed to six and five hours ahead because it was after midnight.

By the time we wake up, mountain will be four ahead and west coast will be three and we’ll be set for another six months until we have to figure it out again!

{March 9, 2017}   Poo-pourri…who knew!

This might be a stinky post.  Ha ha!

If you haven’t heard of poo-pourri, it’s been around for a while, but it hasn’t been advertised until lately.

I’ve known about it for a while, I have one I keep in my toiletries kit for travel and I even have a small one that i keep in my backpack.

If you don’t know what it is, it’s a spray for the royal throne before you go… I hope you get my meaning. I used to carry a mini can of room spray, but this is better, it doesn’t linger and you can’t accidentally walk into it!

Last weekend I was in Colorado, as you may remember and someone had the bright idea to use it in a stinky pair of shoes and guess what… it worked!

Multi-purpose! Score!

{February 27, 2017}   What a weekend!

This weekend was great!

I flew to Denver Friday evening and checked into the only hotel I’ve stayed in since I moved from Denver. It’s a nice Homewood Suites in the center of the city with easy access to restaurants, nightlife, museums, the highways to get to the mountains and anywhere else you want to go.

I got to the hotel,  had to get some work done and eventually got some sleep. I set the alarm, but that snooze button is too tempting. The phone woke me up, oops. I got up and headed to the airport because I was picking up my honey!!!

PSM is going to a meeting in Iowa this coming week and needed a place for a layover and Denver was one of those options and decided to make it a weekend, so here we are! Together!

We went back to the hotel and met his mom’s cousin and her husband for breakfast, a very nice couple who have lived in Denver for over thirty years. We had a really nice time getting to know each other,  hearing stories about PSM’s family and PSM as a little kid.

After breakfast, it was time for a little break and some rest, after a bit PSM got up and prepped for his presentation next week.

Later we headed out into the city and ended up at a Machete for dinner, PSM was craving what we can’t really get in Hawaii, Mexican food. It was a noisy, energetic, eclectic restaurant with an impressive list of tequilas, someone was happy!

We were meeting APM, someone I’ve been friends with since high school, we met in youth group. Thursday and now Saturday, friends from youth group, fabulous! I also found out that his middle name is PSM’s first make, go figure!

After dinner we walked around, got some coffee and tea for a minute then wentb to another bar to hang out a bit longer, then on to the hotel and closing the blackout curtains, we were sleeping in!

Sunday brought a sleep in, brunch, a little more practice and then a tour of Boulder. It was nice to be in a place that I love together.

Then off to the airport, our flights were ably the same time, he walked me to my gate, we got to spend a little more time together and we realized that this would be a good place to meet for a weekend, easy for us both to get to,  sweet!

Then I was off to Chicago and PSM is off to Iowa. I’ll be in Hawaii in a few weeks to see him again and we have a plan for my April trip! Wahoo!

Have a great night!

{February 22, 2017}   It’s so small…

The Smart Car.

It’s so small! Wouldn’t you agree?

I don’t have much else to say. If you enjoy your Smart Car, more power to you, I just don’t get it.

I feel like you can pick it up and carry it places. I think it could fit in my hotel room! With room to spare!
