{January 5, 2015}   Today I…

Shaved… and it felt GREAT!!!

Ok, this post might be more for women, but that is sexist and a generalization, so anyone who shaves and/or likes to stay groomed, this is for you! Now, the more for women is I am talking about areas other than the face…

There was a great image on Facebook a while back “I don’t shave for my boyfriend/husband, I shave for the woman who does my pedicure!” This is SO true!

In the summer, we, women, are more inclined to shave our legs and armpits and probably, you know…because we are wearing shorts, skirts and getting our toes done, don’t forget tank tops, dresses and bathing suits!

If you are a person who does not shave, more power to you, I am not of that mindset and I like to have clean parts and, this may be TMI [Too Much Information, for those of you not in the know] and I am ok with that, I need to shave almost every day. There, I have said it!

I remember when my mom was going through chemo, she was so excited because all her body hair fell out and she didn’t have to shave again!

Now, I admit, in the winter I don’t always shave my legs, I’m wearing pants and if I wear skirts, I wear tights and boots, you are not going to see my legs. Now, if I am going on a date, of course I am shaving my legs, I might want to wear a skirt and look cute and when I was married or involved in an intimate relationship, I kept my legs shaved, someone might touch them and I don’t want anyone to get hurt! That is all I am going to say on that.

Now, as you know, I went to Atlanta the week of Christmas and I took all my toiletries with me and unfortunately, after a few days, my razor decided to quit on me. Now, everyone I stayed with gave me what I needed, toothbrush, toothpaste, deodorant, depending on what I needed, some things I just couldn’t find. Well, that was the one thing I kept forgetting to ask if anyone had extras and every time I went to the store, I forgot and then would get to wherever I was going/staying and say “crap! I forgot razors again!” then one thing leads to another and one day leads to another and…I give up!

I got to Boston Sunday night and let me tell you, this morning’s shower was AWESOME! I almost started singing “Everything is awesome!”. Now I can run around in a tank top, short and a bathing suit! Uh, no! It’s freezing out, but I could if I wanted to! Ok, maybe just a pedi, who wants to go with me?

Ahhh,.,,

{December 31, 2014}   What a year it’s been.

It’s New Year’s Eve and what a year it’s been!

There have been a lot of changes, some good, some bad, but experiences nonetheless and like you, I have grown with each one. I would like to share some of the things that have happened to me this year.

I got a new job in February that I love. It gives me the opportunity to do two things I absolutely love: train on software applications and travel for work. I have been in multiple cities for this job, my friends on Facebook are trying to keep up! Someone asked me if I was traveling for work or did I win the lottery? My response “I love my job so much it feels a little like both!” This job not only allows me to travel to new locations for work, I get to travel to different locations on the weekends, it allows me to go to fun places to visit family and friends and do races in cool places. Aside from that perk, I am always learning new modules for the applications I teach, it helps build my skill set and makes me a better trainer.

I went to the Bar Mitzvah of one of my closest friends from high school. CS was pregnant at my wedding! Oh my!  What an honor and  treat to be a part of it!

You may or may not have guessed by my posts, that I am now single, DCM and I parted ways romantically, it was a mutual decision that was best for both of us. I hold no grudges or bear ill will towards him, we are still great friends and I am happy that he is happy with his life. I will always be thankful for our time together, our shared experiences and giving me something I never thought I would have, grandchildren!

Speaking of grandchildren… we have a new one! Baby W, DCM calls her Twig, too funny! She is a beautiful baby who I hope to meet one day. I got to see Baby A before the family moved to Texas, it was such a great visit, not only with Baby A, but his mommy, I felt really close to them both that day. Not to mention the fabulous mothers day gift I got!

I finally met LB’s sister, Baby L when I went to Las Vegas. LB was so excited to see me, she had me read the same book five times! I had the best visit with both wee tots and their mom, it felt good to talk to her one on one, so to speak.

I have gotten back in the dating world, gone out once or twice, but obviously nothing worth mentioning, but I have been enjoying life, who knows what next year holds!

I did a few races, 5k, 10k and mud runs, around the country, Disney, Atlanta, Colorado, Michigan and my second half marathon in Las Vegas. I drank some moonshine and Jameson! Ick but I did it!

As much traveling as I do, the one place I have never gone alone was overseas, so two months ago, I took myself to Ireland and it was feckin’ fantastic! I’m ready for more international travel!

I also had the fortune to visit friends and family around the country. I spent quite a bit of time in Atlanta with my favorite people and Miss A is walking! She is walking and running around like a champ! I had trouble keeping up with her a few times! Go Miss A!!! So very proud! You can only imagine how her mom, SDL feels!

As a result of being single, I got to spend more time with my sister’s family, I drove with two cats from Colorado to Kentucky to Boston, I know you’re jealous of that one! The girls get to experience unconditional love with the cats and even better, I have gotten closer with the girls they get so excited when I am there now, amazing!

I started skiing again after almost 20 years! I wasn’t sure if I would like it, but I loved it! I skied a little in the beginning of the year and now I am spending New Years at Breckenridge skiing!

A big thing that happened in 2014, I know I didn’t talk about it with you…my sister became a SURVIVOR!!! In October/November 2013, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and in November 2014, she got the all clear, so fantastic! 2014 was a really rough year for my family and we are so happy its over and looking forward to 2015

2015 will be a new year, duh. There will be so many new experiences to be had, projects, places to visit and work, nieces doing amazing things, I cannot wait to tell you all about them.

Along those lines, I have something that I will be sharing, medically speaking with you, I have shared with most of my friends, working through the list, and when I begin the process, there may be days I do not blog much, I hope I will at least be able to tell you what is going on.

Two years ago, January 6th, I rediscovered my blog, with the intention of posting every day and I did it and loved it. I feel lost if I don’t post and January 6th of last year, I decided to continue, guess what I’m going to do January 6, 2015!

You have all stuck with me throughout these last two years and I thank you! My blog has been viewed 4000 times THIS YEAR!!! O  M  G!!! THANK YOU! I will publish some stats in another post. I look forward to sharing the next year with you!

May 2015 bring you health, happiness and all the joy your hearts can handle!

Happy New Year!

{December 14, 2014}   Holiday Movies

How much do you love holiday movies?

Do you start watching them around Thanksgiving? Sooner? All year long?

There is the Hallmark Channel, famous for their holiday movies, even Lifetime Movie Network, Netflix has them all year long and there are times, admittedly, even in the summer, I am feeling the need for some holiday cheer and will put on a holiday movie and feel a chill in the air and the proverbial holiday spirit, lifts my spirits right up!

Unfortunately, most of these movies are horrible and have a very similar theme…broken hearts, boy meeting girl, girl or boy already involved with someone but there is always someone better…someone gets hit on the head and ends up in an alternate universe and when they come back to their original self realizing what they really want and end up where they were supposed to be. Maybe it’s a Groundhog Day type of movie, repeating the same day over and over until they get it right.

My sister and I are addicted to these things, no matter how bad they are, written, acted or whatever the case may be, we still love them, she DVRs them and sometimes, watch them over and over and sometimes…once is enough and delete. We like to sneak in a holiday movie in here and there, EJS and GES will watch with us sometimes, but most of the time, GES and I sneak in some time and even stay up late watching them.

I’d write you a list, but I don’t think I have enough time or space!

Guess what we’re doing right now as I write to you?

{December 13, 2014}   Teeny Tiny Waists…

I am watching White Christmas and realizing, not for the first time, that some actresses from the 40s, 50s, 60s, had TEENY TINY WAISTS!

The thing about it is they weren’t anorexic, they were just incredibly skinny, some actresses took drugs to stay thin, but for some, it was natural. Here are a few that have always struck me…

Besides, this is a great opportunity to share some of my favorite clips! Win-win!

Vera Ellen, for example, I’m not sure she had one! Check out this clip from White Christmas. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=meO3ims3GvU

Rosemary Clooney wasn’t much larger, look! [And I love this song!] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzUfmh3G9AE

Audrey Hepburn, Funny Face! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9dcybKF8Pjo. If you know, you know I HEART Audrey Hepburn!

Judy Garland, but unfortunately, you know what Hollywood did to her, but I still love her to this day! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0odXnKhKBxQ

Marilyn Monroe was stacked and to me, her tiny waist never seemed odd, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eL7ETLLkQTY

Leslie Caron is another actress that I have always love with a teeny waist. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l0oNLU4PSxE

I love Virginia Mayo, but mostly because she is in movies with one of my all time favorite actors, Danny Kaye https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbpBxkOt7HQ

There are more, but you get the idea.

{December 11, 2014}   Holiday cards

They are starting to come in and I love it!

I love getting the photo cards people love sending, I get to see how the kids have grown, it’s awesome! I’ve thought about sending photo cards before, but what would I send? Me and my two cats? Just me? Boring! Just the cats, that would be cute.

One of the things I love doing is making my own cards and sending them out and that is what I will be doing this weekend, finishing the cards and putting them in the mail, I know I’m a little late, but as long as they get there before the holidays, that’s what counts, right?

Want to trade cards? I would love it! Let me know and we’ll do it!
Happy Holiday Carding!

{December 10, 2014}   Reactions

What makes us react certain ways to certain things?

We hear a song and it sets us off, sometimes in a good way, sometimes a bad way. Maybe you see a photo of someone from your past and it triggers a reaction. As most of us know, the holidays make us more emotional, especially if there has been a loss, but as we think on what we have lost, we should take a look around at all that we have, the loved ones who are with us, ready with a hug and a smile. This I share with you.

As I sit here talking to you, I am watching a commercial about a boy saving money to buy a bicycle, not telling, but now I am boohooing, in a good way. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR7v1RJc9Lg

{December 2, 2014}   Oh boy, another meeting!

Have you ever been in so many meetings you wondered…

“How can I get any work done if I’m in all these meetings?

Don’t get me wrong, the meetings are important; working with the client, fact gathering, spreadsheets, whatever it takes to have a successful project, although sometimes it feels like you’re in a meeting to talk about more meetings and planning a meeting for the next meeting, they all serve a purpose. It just feels like you never have time to get anything done because you are always in a meeting.

Ever been there?

{November 28, 2014}   Bittersweet

This year, celebrating Thanksgiving in Boston was bittersweet.

The reason I say that is that this was the first time in six years that I celebrated Thanksgiving in Boston and not Atlanta. When I was married, we celebrated the holiday in New York City, Boston or Atlanta and the year we got divorced, I came to Boston with TS to celebrate.

Since then, I have hosted Thanksgiving for all my “orphan” friends, people like me, who didn’t have any extended family in Atlanta, who were not going home to be with families. Sometimes, people don’t have the opportunity to go home for the holidays, sometimes they have to work the next day, so I stated hosting and I have loved each year!

It was as pot luck, with me making the turkey, yes, the vegan makes the turkey! One year, I remember flying in from Nevada the day before thanksgiving, getting there either late the night before or early thanksgiving morning and going right to work. Last year it was even Thanksgivingka, the first night of Chanukah was thanksgiving, what a great meal that was!

Different people have joined different years and some people were each year, CKM, SDL, DJL, Miss A, CC and JC and their baby M, JCT and her family, DCM, AB, JB and A and their son, E, just to name a few.

Last year, I don’t know if you remember me telling you about the dollar store thanksgiving! I had already moved to Colorado, but when we came back to Atlanta for thanksgiving, stayed in my house and hosted using things I bought at the dollar store!

There were so many great memories built over the years and I would not trade them for anything. This year, being with my family in Boston was so very important and while I would not have missed the opportunity, I was missing my family in Atlanta and not hosting, very much. Hence, bittersweet.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and celebrated with those they love and care about! I know I did!

{November 25, 2014}   Sometimes traveling is lonely

I know I’ve talked about how much I love traveling for work.

And I do, don’t doubt it, but some days on the road are just lonely. A few years ago I was on a project that had me in different cities around the country, sometimes for just a night or two. I didn’t travel with anyone, so I was always on my own.

When I started with Deloitte in February, I was put in with a large group and became friends with quite a few, I hope you remember me talking about some of them. KLS and KNOB to name just two. We would go out almost every night and had a wonderful time, it made the time pass quickly.

When I was transitioned to Louisville, PM was transferred as well and we went to dinner almost every night together. Then we came to Chicago and we have gone to dinner a lot of nights, we are only here three nights a week and we get done about six, so not always up for dinner, but we’ve done alright so far.

Last week, I worked remotely and PM was here two days on his own, and this week, he is working remotely, might be next week as well. One thing most of the team does not do is go out to dinner after work. It is back to the hotel and tonight, I did the same, back to the hotel and order room service.

Every once in a while it’s ok, but I like going out, seeing the city or town and trying something new to eat, help to relax and detox from the day. This week, as I am on my own, it hasn’t been bad, I went out, but tonight, it was hotel and room service, it felt kind of lonely.

Not having a pity party, so don’t feel bad for me, just melancholy. Heading to Boston tomorrow for the holiday. Can’t wait!

{November 24, 2014}   Smoking allowed in a hotel?

I didn’t think you could still smoke in hotels, especially the bigger chains.

I came back to the hotel today and walked into my room and smelled smoke, what? I thought all hotels were smoke free. I have stayed at a few smaller hotel chains that allow smoking, but that was a few years years ago, I don’t know if the same holds true today but I still didn’t think you could smoke inside any more.

I came back to my room at the hotel and it smelled like smoke, which I thought was odd, so I called down to the front desk and they sent someone up to spray, which helped. I also found out that they allow smoking on the fifth floor, the entire floor, what?

I went down to the front desk and talked to the woman working, it turns out that since they have a lot of flight attendants, especially from Asia, the hotel got permission to allow smoking on the fifth floor. Neither one of us liked the idea, but oh well.

The really unfortunate part is that smoke rises, it comes in through the vents, the balcony, the windows, ick, the point is, it comes up and makes the rooms above smell, very unfortunate.

So…while I am thrilled with the size of my room, the smoke kind of killed the illusion, oh well. It does smell better now.
