{November 18, 2015}   It’s good to be back

I’m back to blogging every day and it feels great.

For almost three years I have been blogging every day and it’s become a habit and a way of life.  If I don’t blog,  I feel weird.  I’ve even woken up in the middle of the night realizing I didn’t post! I’ve also woken up mid blog,  sometimes with my stylus in my hand,  poised to write!

I know I told you, but I’m sure you can imagine how frustrated I was when we were traveling and I couldn’t post every day. I did get a post almost every day, but those few days were…grrrr.

Now I’m back and I’ve posted every day and it feels great. To be normal…so to speak. I still have the issues of writers block,  if I am allowed to say that, some days I can’t think of anything to tell you and other days I can’t tell you enough!

I have told you before,  I’ll say it again and I know it won’t be the last time…thank you for reading my posts,  day after day, and caring about what I have to say.

Happy to be back! Here’s to the next three years! Wait,  it’s not January yet! Until tomorrow…

{November 16, 2015}   Why do things have to change?

Aren’t some things good enough as they are?

Do we really have to change? But it works the way it is. I’m just whining at the moment, sorry. A few of the apps I use have made changes recently, most recently, WordPress, where I write this blog.

I was speaking with a provider who was giving me an earful about their new electronic medical record system and as a trainer of said record systems, I get it and I can sympathize and empathize.

It would be nice, with certain things, if they told you they were changing, instead of it just happening.

I don’t have much else to say on the matter. There’s more to say, but you know what I mean, don’t you?

{November 14, 2015}   Saddened and renewed by the world

I am saddened by what happened in Paris. I am renewed by the support the world has shown.

There is so much sadness and violence in the world it breaks my heart.

I was out with PSM and his friends Friday night when MM texted and said he was glad I was home and not in Paris. I didn’t know what he was talking about at the moment, I did very quickly and it was heartbreaking. And it’s only gotten worse.

I remember what it was like each time there is a horrible attack somewhere. People who try to destroy the human spirit by taking lives. Why? Does it truly serve a purpose? What did you hope to accomplish? Did it work?

I don’t really want to talk about what happened, you know, you can research it online. What I want to talk about is the support the world has shown to the people in France.

We, as a people, come together to support each other, show our love and that we care and whatever happens we will not be defeated.

It’s hard when I am saddened by humanity when they try to hurt each other and I have hope when I see the outpouring of support.

mon cœur, de soutien et de bonnes pensées vont à tous ceux qui ont été touché et affecté par les attaques sur Paris. vous êtes fort et allez survivre.

{November 12, 2015}   Are you a polite flyer?

A valid question.

The reason I ask is that today, I was flying back from Buffalo and there was a man sitting in front of the seat next to me, humming and singing almost the entire flight. In first class.

Now, it doesn’t matter where you are in terms of the plane, you should be polite no matter what.

I think it stuck out more, to those of us around him, because we were in first class.

One of the things I like about flying is that you can’t use your cellphone to talk to anyone. You can play games and watch movies, but I shouldn’t be able to hear you because you should have headphones on/in.

I don’t have a problem with people talking, but at normal volume for private conversations. I talk to people on occasion, whether I know them or not, I know go figure! The entire flight from Budapest to Amsterdam, the three people behind us…never. shut. up. Omg! Please! And it was at a decibel that I would not classify as polite in a small confined space.

The guy humming/singing today didn’t stop. He had giant headphones on and just kept going. Then on the shuttle from the plane to the terminal, still going, really?

I’m happy for you that you’re enjoying whatever it is, but I wasn’t asking to share and…

it might have helped if could actually sing!

{November 8, 2015}

What is a relaxing Sunday?  Could someone explain it to me?

People experience international travel differently.  Some people get wiped out by jetlag, sometimes it hits later,  some people have trouble adjusting or readjusting to their time zone. When we were working on the plans for the trip, we decided to come back Saturday morning so we could chill and relax on Sunday.  Ha!

Apparently my internal clock is still 6 hours ahead. So,  after falling asleep about midnight 6am here) I felt the need to wake up at 3 am and apparently,  I’m not go back to sleep.

I stayed in and unpacked, cleaned up, all while binge watching ‘How to get away with Murder’. Dozed off one or three times!

PSM unfortunately woke up at 6am, ugh. He and Mollie when for some walks, then he picked me up and took me to GES’ house to pick up more stuff. Back to the apartment, unload the car , back to GES for dinner and catch up and more loading of the truck.

I love my greetings and catching up!

Back to the apartment, unload the truck, we’re getting there! PSM left so he could spend some time looking at the back of his eyelids.

Now,  at 12:30am it’s time for me to bid you a very good night.  It’s a work and school day tomorrow!

{November 7, 2015}   It’s good to be back!

Day 22? Or is it Day 1, back to normal life…

As much as we loved the trip and loved spending the time together and it was hard to leave, it was time to come home, back to reality. We were missing family and friends and furry babies! We couldn’t wait to see them!

What greetings we got! PSM took me to my sister’s and I got to see GES and MGS, what hugs we got from them! Then it was on to get my furry babies, Jymy and Peanut couldn’t stop crying and trying to cuddle with me, PSM said Mollie jumped on him then in the car and wouldn’t get out until they left his brother’s house!

What a day! We were up at 3/3:15am local time to ensure we were ready to be picked up at 4:30 am, our flight was at 6:30am and we needed to be there at least one hour before the flight and we got there in plenty of time. Now, keep in mind, we were up at 3am local time, that was 9pm back east! Some of you weren’t even in bed yet and we were getting up ridiculously early to catch a flight! So, here it is, 10:43pm eastern and I’m no sure if my internal clock is off because technically, my body thinks it’s 4:45am, I think I might be confused, it’s a definitely possibility, but the nice thing is I’m getting sleepy, hopefully there is a deep sleep in my future!

The flights were relatively uneventful. It was a short flight from Budapest to Amsterdam. Now, the security line to get through security from the main terminal to D was ridiculous! No order, rhyme or reason to these lines! But..we made it through.

We did, however get to watch a bunch of movies. We actually watched the Minions on our own screens at the same time, it was cool to laugh at the same parts of the movie. Then our viewing went their separate ways. I watched The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, loved, Trainwreck, interesting, and almost all of Home, cute, but not fabulous,

Then we were on the ground.

I fear friends, that I am starting to fade, I have nodded off during my blog a few times, I need sleep! So , I will wish you a very good night and just say, more tomorrow.

jet lag

Not again with the alarm!

This morning we were up at 6am because we were going to the train station to get on the Eurorail and headed to Porto, Portugal!

At 645am, we headed towards the train,  got some breakfast before we got on and settled in for the three hour ride. It was nice,  great scenery, relatively smooth ride and a nap thrown in sounds great!

Porto is the second largest city in Portugal, after Lisbon,  https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porto,_Portugal. This is such a beautiful city! Right on the water,  classic architecture,  sculptures,  town squares and home of amazing wineries and where port comes from, imagine that!

We arrived and got our bearings straight on the Metro and found our hotel, dropped our bags and went in search of lunch. PSM had this gastronomic wonder that is a popular item here,  called a franceschina. It’s a combination of bread, ham, pork slice, covered in cheese and hot sauce with a fried egg/sunny side up, on top and served with French fries, omg!

image

I had nothing so extravagant,  I had eggs with rice. We are getting better about ordering in Portuguese, it’s cool and exciting!

image

image

After lunch,  we checked into the hotel then went for a walk about. We found some beautiful squares,  buildings,  architecture and the information office where we booked a walking tour for the morning and hopped in a cab to head down to the water for a winery tour and tasting.

image

image

The cab dropped us off and we wandered.  Got our tickets for the tour, then went on a boat your of the river [no problem on this boat! ].

image

After the cruise we headed to the winery for the tour and tasting and yes,  I tasted and no,  I did not like it,  but I did it.  Just like the Jamison in Ireland.

image

image

After the tasting we took the cable car or tram up to the bridge so we could walk across and watch the sunset from up there.  Stunning!

image

image

After the sunset we walked in search of food and finding our options limited by the fact that a lot of places were closing or only open for drinks and pastries, away we went.

image

In the Metro and back towards the hotel we ate at the restaurant next to the one we ate lunch at,  go figure! PSM got his sardines and I had soup and salad,  I’m happy.

Back to the hotel with the round bed,  one blog post will be dedicated to our hotel rooms, wow.  Another will be just tiles and another,  the graffiti of Portugal,  it’s amazing and abundant.

I hope you had a great day!

Boa noite!

{October 15, 2015}   Getting in the groove

When I write I have to be in the groove, find my mojo.

That would be why there are some days I don’t post until the wee hours of the morning! Some days it comes to me, others, its excruciating!

I can tell you it’s no different for me writing resumes, dating profiles, training documentation. You name it, whatever it is, the inspiration sometimes hits after everyone has gone to bed, up I stay!

It’s the same way when I write for work. If I have clear direction, I can run with, sometimes, but if I don’t, I have to wait for the muse or inspiration t strike and I can sit and stare at a blank screen for a long time, which is not as much fun as you may think!

Today, I was on that roll, it was awesome! It started yesterday and if the system had been working properly, I could have worked until 10 or 11pm or later, I love those times!

You’re in the zone, you know what you’re doing and what you want to do and you hit it and there’s no stopping you!

{October 14, 2015}   Good service, good memories

Tonight was a pleasure.

I think I told you about the restaurant Papaya, http://papayarestaurant.biz/, the last time I was in Buffalo. It’s a great Asian Fusion restaurant and I think I went there at least 4 or 5 times the last time. The first time I went it was recommended by the manager at the Hyatt Buffalo having vegetarian options, definitely down with that!

The first time I went it was on my own and I sat at the bar and really enjoyed it, so I shared it with the team and we went a few times. When we started sitting at a table, we ended up with a fabulous server. She is funny and smart, great with suggestions when you order something, very descriptive and entertaining when talking about the menu and specials. Her husband is a chef at their sister restaurant.

She’s passionate about what she does, great to banter with. I think the last time I was there, I had her doing different things every time she came to the table, singing, dancing, something, she was a great sport about it.

When we got there tonight, I couldn’t remember her name, but I described her and they put us in her section. I asked if she remembered me and she did, where I sat and I mentioned her husband and she was touched that I remembered, she also remembered singing and dancing when she came to the table.

She was just as fabulous as I remembered! When we left I gave her a hug, she kissed me on the cheek and we left. If you get a chance to get to Papaya, make sure you ask for Chris. FABULOUS! Well worth it!

{October 13, 2015}   Roller bag…look out!!!!

It was a runaway roller bag.

I got on the escalator down to my gate and all of a sudden it tipped over and it was heading face first towards the woman below on the escalator. AAACK!

Everyone was staring in horror and helplessness. It’s like you’re watching things happen in slow-motion. Luckily, the woman it was heading for was quick, she turned around and stopped the bag from going any further and hurting anyone, thank you!!

I love the wheels that rotate, they’re great, I don’t have to pull, I can push or slide, I can spin, I can send it sliding down the gangway, it keeps me entertained.

But apparently, it can be a hazard, take that as a warning!
