Can you tell what movie was on when I got back to the hotel?

Please tell me you said The Matrix!

Did you want to take the blue pill or the red one?
Would you follow Morpheus?
Would you follow the white rabbit?
Believe the oracle?
Eat a cookie?

“Do you know how to fly a helicopter?” “No, but I will.”

Did you think Neo was the one? Or did you know?

So…I was compelled to watch it and it brought back memories of the first time I saw it and it was good. The second movie wasn’t bad, but the third one, you can keep that one, not interested, unless we were doing a Matrix marathon and you kind of have to watch all of them, or else it’s not complete.

Final thought…everyone else wore leather, why didn’t Neo ever wear leather?

There are certain movies that I just have to watch when they come on TV, I might even own them or have seen them over 100 times, I have to watch.

Aren’t there movies that you can’t turn away from that no matter how many times you’ve seen them, you have to watch them? No matter how old, although sometimes, when they are on TV, they’re chopped to pieces and the language is dubbed, it’s hard to watch  but you give it the old school try.  Maybe they’re so old the technology is outdated, but they are from your childhood and they bring good memories, maybe where you were, who you were with you first saw it.

Here are a few of my favorites that I must watch if they come on:

  • Star Wars [IV, V, VI]
  • Die Hard [the original and sometimes #2]
  • Beverly Hills Cop [definitely 1, sometimes 2, I say that as i am sitting here watching #2]
  • Sixteen Candles [I think this is mostly chicks, but I could be stereotyping]
  •              Have you noticed that there is a scene they put on TV that isn’t on the DVD or VHS [now I’m dating myself!]. It’s the scene in the lunchroom where Jake Ryan                  finds Samantha’s ‘sex test’
  • Rocky
  • War Games
  • Moonstruck [again, chick flick]
  • A Few Good Men
  • Pride and Prejudice
  • Coming to America
  • Terminator [the first one]
  • Groundhog
  • Day
  • Caddyshack
  • The Abyss
  • The Princess Bride

I could go on, but I might run out of room. Those are some of my favorite must see’s [and you know as soon as I publish this post, I’m going to think of a few more!]

I slept in again..until 8am, hold yourself back!

I got up, said good morning and then headed out with ACS for a dump run. They don’t have trash pickup at their house, so once a week they take trash and recyclables to the dump. Sometimes MGS likes to go and help, today the girls were very busy playing with all their new stuff from papa, so I went with ACS to the dump. We made two runs, one was trash and plastics, we came back for the cardboard.

On the way back to the house after the first run, we stopped at a farm stand and got some apple cider donuts, you know the ones with the sugar and cinnamon on them? And when they’re warm..oh boy! When we brought them home, GES and dad said the same thing I did, how much we loved them and they reminded us of when we were kids and went apple picking and then got the donuts after, ah..memories.

After the two dump runs, I got some work done, then I headed up to the New England Running Store to meet RG and try on some new sports bras and found one that fit and held me in perfectly! I got a few other things and then headed home for lunch with the family. That was nice, the rain had finally stopped, the sky cleared up and it got nice and toasty, we were able to sit outside on the deck for lunch, felt good to sit in the sun.

A little more work and then it was time to shower, get cleaned up, pack and get ready to head out. The nice thing about today was it was very laid back and relaxed, no rush to get anywhere.

About 3:30 I said goodbye to LaLa and GES then dad and I headed out to the airport. It was nice to have some one on one time with my dad.

We got to the airport, said goodbye and off I went, looking forward to the next visit.

I got back to Detroit and KS picked me up, we went to dinner, enjoyed some laughs, checked into the hotel and here I sit talking to you!

The day started very early, about 6:15, when the birthday girl, MGS, came in to say hello.

That’s a wee bit early, add to that the fact that I had taken a Zyrtec and it knocked me out! I have to tell you that I didn’t come out of my fog until late today!

So, MGS came in to say hello and I tried to stay awake. She left and then EJS came in to say hello, I could barely keep my eyes open.  I was disappointed in myself because usually when they come in in the morning, I get up to spend time with them.

I passed out again and got up just as EJS was getting on the bus and she said to get mommy “Why does Auntie J sleep so late when she’s here?” (8:00 is late, awesome!)

I got up, got dressed, GES headed to a dentist appointment Abe I straightened things up, the cleaners were coming.  When she got back we went to get some brunch and a little shopping done.

We got back and then both got some work done and at the same I made a batch of brownies for MGS’ birthday at school. We headed out to school to celebrate her birthday in hey classroom.

After Brown brownies and singing, we headed to do some return and get some extra shopping done.

All of a sudden, it was time to meet the rest of the family at the Cheesecake Factory, where MGS wanted to go for her birthday dinner.

We got there and Poppa and La La were waiting, they had picked up EJS and when ACS got there with MGS it was time to site down.

Everyone was glad to be together and had a really great time at dinner.  For dessert, there was Cheesecake and singing happy birthday.

After dinner, it was home for presents, stories and bed..ahh. And now that everyone is asleep, It’s my turn, goodnight!

Do we really need another Godzilla movie?

Well, some days I might say yes, those are the days I am nostalgic and a little kid on a Saturday morning watching movies: Godzilla, Godzilla vs Mothra, Son of Bambi meets Godzilla, yeah,no,  not that one.

And then some days, I might say no and that enough is enough already! It’s Godzilla, he’s a monster and he wreaks havoc on all that get in his way and even those that don’t get in his way. What are they going to come up with next? That’s new? That’s different?

The last “new” one I saw was in 1998, and it was a little on the funny side, from what I remember. Don’t get me wrong, I used to love B sci-fi movies, I loved to watch them before the Bruce Lee movies that came on Saturday morning as well, but come on!

Did you know that there are over THREE HUNDRED AND THIRTY different Godzilla movies? WHAT? So…enough already? Maybe?

Not to worry fans, I know I am going to be overruled and there will be another Godzilla movie in the next 10-20 years, maybe there will be some Mothra movies, maybe they’ll fight each other, maybe someone will finally win!

Will I go see this one? Not sure, but you know I’ll keep you posted if I do!

{May 13, 2014}   Nice surprise

Staying in a hotel, you don’t normally get things like mail.

That is unless you have something shipped to you. And I’ve had one or two things shipped to me, especially when I knew I wasn’t going to be going home for a while, it’s just more conveient.

Well, today, I received a wonderful treat in the mail! My sister told me she had a card for me and asked where she should send it. I gave her the address here at the hotel and today, when I got back to my room, it was waiting for me!

You can see the card here and inside, the most adorable picture of EJS and MGS. Inside was written by EJS, “Dear Aunite J, Happy Mothers Day” and they both signed it! I teared up it was awesome!

I will treasure this card for always, for now it will sit on the nightstand, soon, it will go in the clear sleeve for my calendar, that’s where their valentines day card is. I am truly blessed and touched.

Thank you. I la la la love it!

{May 11, 2014}   Happy Mother’s Day

What else would I write about?

Today is Mother’s Day and I hope everyone who celebrated enjoyed their day immensely. Mother’s come in all shapes and sizes and you don’t need to be physically related to your children to be a mom, you really just need to open your heart and feel the love. Maybe it’s a blended family, you’ve adopted, they’re four legged and furry, your kid’s best friend, whatever it is, you deserve to be honored.

My post today on Facebook:   A very Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms, of two leg and four legged kids, the birth moms, adopted moms, step mom’s and aunties. We are an amazing group of people and today is our day, enjoy it! Thank you to everyone who had made me a mom, grandma and auntie, you make my life so much richer!

I added some great pictures of just some of the wonderful people, both big and little, who have allowed me to be a part of their lives. I’m a mom, a grandmother, an auntie, how much better could my life get?

There were some great postings on Facebook, I would love to share them here.

You may or may not know that I am a mom.

A step-mom to be precise, I became a mom when I started dating the wasband oh so long ago. When I met my kids, my son had just turned 7 the day before and my daughter was 8, it was a new experience. I was in love and I never wanted it to end.

From the moment we became a family, I never called them anything but my son and daughter, I didn’t see a difference. I may not have given birth to them but I don’t think I could have loved them anymore! I like to say I have all the joys and none of the stretch marks!

There were many times that they tested our patience, mine more than his because if you’ve never been one, [this is my opinion] being a step-parent is incredibly stressful, you want to be the best parent you can be, ensure everyone is happy, worrying that there might be a blow up, not wanting to overstep boundaries, so many things. Sometimes I joke when people are expressing frustrations with their teens and pre-teens, this too shall pass and I can say that my kids lived, that’s pretty good.

On the flip side, being a step parent can be the most rewarding experience ever. I wasn’t sure about being a mom when I was younger, but I fell in love when I met them and what adventures we had. I became a mom and I loved every minute of it, even the moments I didn’t love at the time.

They were both shorter than me when we met and as you can imagine, that didn’t last long! They are also so very smart, I know, you think I’m biased, and in some ways I am, but they were both very smart, graduated with honors, sometimes ‘not a lick of common sense between them’, but they were mine and I was so proud of all they did and were.

They tested my patience at times, as every child does to their parent and they made our time together special. I loved throwing birthday parties, coming up with creative ideas to surprise them, introducing them to so many new things and experiences. And as for the birthday parties, 20 was the last one I got to celebrate with my daughter, her dad and I were divorced a few months later.

No getting maudlin.

I think about my daughter every year on May 8th and my son on November 11 and send them love and hugs and wish them well. I think about them other times, just especially on those dates.  And as today was her birthday, I was inspired to tell you a little about them.

Even though I don’t see them I still talk about them to anyone who will listen, I brag about them and so…I have a 26 year old! Imagine that!

Hap Hap Happy Birthday TYH! I love you!

{May 3, 2014}   Party! Movies! Sleep?

What a day!

The girls spent the night away from home getting spoiled by S&B, so it was different coming in last night, we didn’t have to be quiet, no nightlights and this morning, well, I slept until 8! Hold yourself back!

Got up and got to work, there was going to be a 4 year old’s birthday party in a few hours, lots to do! Put out toys, prep food, remove funiture, move other stuff, sweep and then the girls showed up! AH! The hugs, the kisses, the love, the excitement! Then everyone else showed up! Total count for the day? Somewhere around 60 in and out, it was an open house, but there are times everyone is there at the same time. There were a lot of  little loves there, hugs, kisses and more hugs for Auntie J! We had toys in the front and back yard, sidewalk chalk, bubbles, markers, paper, swing set and a bouncy house, what more could you want?

We had burgers, hot dogs, veggie burgers, pickles, potato salad, deviled eggs, chips and cake, still hungry? EJS and MGS even helped to make a watermelon basket, it was delicious and fun! MGS had a great birthday party and wore the party dress to prove it!

The majority of people were gone by 3:30 and we chilled out, finished cleaning and sat down, what? All of a sudden it was 5:30 and it was time to leave for my dinner date with the girls and two girls from down the street, H & B, they are sisters known as the baby whisperers. They are so amazing with little kids and my girls adore them, it was so cute when EJS invited them to go with us.

We went to the movie theater, got our snacks, potty stop and then settled in to watch Rio 2. The funny thing was when EJS was trying to explain Rio to the girls, almost scene by scene! We saw some good previews [Annie with Cameron Diaz and Jamie Fox, How to Train Your Dragon 2, Charlie Brown, Paddington] and then the movie started, it was a lot of fun and all the girls had fun!

Then it was time to go home, get jammies on and read stories. They were so tired, EJS fell asleep in the chair in MGS’s room as I was reading the second bedtime story starring Fancy Nancy, of course after telling me “If my eyes are closed, I’m not really asleep” so said the heavy breathing. Eventually they were both fast asleep and I came downstairs to enter my time for the week, submit expenses and then write to you.

Are you tired? I am, goodnight!
