I love my cats, the furry kids as we call them, but sometimes, it takes all I have not to wring their furry little necks!

That being said, let me clarify. When I first got Jymy, I let her sleep in the bed with me, that was my first mistake, she walked above my head all the time, never got a good nights sleep. In her defense, she has gotten better and will sleep with me and chill. Even after I’ve been gone a week, she will love on me and then relax, maybe sleep on the pillow above my head or in the crook of my body and that’s it.

Peanut is another story all together. She has to be by my side at all times, after I’ve been away, like I was last week, she needs to be touching me every moment, it’s been crazy! If I pet her with one hand, she looks for the other to join in, if I sit on the couch, she’s sitting on me or mewing for me to pet her. If I am laying in bed, she wants to lay with me and if Jymy isn’t in the crook, Peanut is.

The other thing, which happens often and this morning and middle of last night, is that she will wake me up because she wants attention. Really? You sleep 22 hours a day, let me have a few! It started last night about four am, she was crying and pushing my hand to pet her, then again about five and the last straw was 6:45 this morning, seriously? She was walking on me, pushing my hand to pet her and whining.

I am loathe to admit this, but i jumped out of bed and yelled at both cats kicked them out of the room and tried to go back to sleep. It didn’t help that the phone rang about the same time, what?

Tonight, I came into the bedroom and closed the door, they are going to have to cry it out. I am hoping that they don’t start scratching tonight or too early in the morning! I love them both and I love to snuggle with them, I just need some sleep tonight!

Sweet dreams!

I think my car was born in Florida or some other warm weather state. She spent some of her teenage years in Georgia, so she is definitely not prepared for Colorado!

Firstly, I can tell that she doesn’t like not being in a garage, even though it’s cold in the garage, it’s warmer than it is in a parking deck. I went out to the car tonight and it’s been snowing, so it’s a bit chilly. It was seven degrees when I got in the car, went down to five by the time I got out of the parking deck. After dinner, I had to go to the bank, it was one, then zero, a little chilly.

The temperature light keeps coming on, then the traction indicator. The two biggest tells are the stereo not coming on right away, sometimes I have to turn it on and off and on again and then there are the dash lights, when I turn on the headlights, the dash lights come on, tonight, the dials for the heat and direction of the heat didn’t come on right away.

The one thing that works right away…seat warmers, ahhhh. I put one pair of gloves at my back for when I have to get out and wear another pair I keep in the car. Let’s just say it was cold!

Even though she protested, she’s a trooper and got up and went. I did promise that I would get her a bath once a week, that seemed to help.

Stay warm my friends! Annie’s trying, you can too!

Today it was time to head back to Denver, I would miss my family, but I will see them again soon and I’m missing DCM. Shhh…don’t tell, but I like him a little, ok, a lot!

I got up when the girls were getting ready for school and when the bus came, EJS ran out the door, not even a good bye, sigh. She was excited for school and…got her first report card today, according to her teacher, she loves science and social studies! No slouches in this family!

When it was time for MGS to go to school, she refused to hug, kiss or even say goodbye to dad and I. I wasn’t upset because I remember going through this with EJS, there was a time she refused to say goodbye and then stood at the front door waving! It’s a good thing.

Then dad headed out, snowstorm heading towards New York, he wanted to get ahead of it and he did. He also treated me to a car service to the airport, thank you daddy! It was very nice, door to door service.

When I left, it had been snowing for a few hours and everything was pretty, blanketed in snow, made me want to light a fire and listen to christmas music!

At the airport, got a free bag check, took it! Was able to rearrange some things thanks to the new bag from COF, thank you! I had made some lunch, so I had something to carry it in.

I get to the gate, we start to board, then we’re delayed about thirty minutes, not sure if they were cleaning the wings or what, but we took off eventually. Here’s the kicker, I’m not a fan of changing planes, only because you are at the mercy of everything else. When I booked the flight, I chose the shortest total travel time as well as shortest layover.

We arrive in Dallas late, my flight is due to leave at 7:45, we land about 7:30. They announce over the intercom, as they always do “if you do not have a connecting flight, please stay seated to allow those with connections to make their flights”. Think that happened? Not a chance!

I finally get off the plane and book it to the gate. Originally, we were coming in at Gate 33, I had to go to Gate 37, no worries, I’ll make it. Then…gate change, we come in to Gate 9! What? I make tracks once I get off the plane, I make it in about 5 minutes, .22 miles, so my watch picked up, I think it picked up late, but it’s funny that it starts tracking.

I get to the gate, which had said on time on the board…leaving 40 minutes late, so I take a breath. We were waiting on the crew, that happens, but…when I get on the plane, guess who the crew was? My Boston-Dallas flight crew! How funny is that?

Flight was uneventful, I was just ready to get off the plane, the first leg was four hours, this was going to be two, I was just about done. So those were my flights, I watched 2.5 movies, not to shabby.

Here’s where the flying etiquette comes in…

Chat with people if you want, be pleasant. I told you about the woman I sat next to last week, well, today, on the first flight, the girl next to me was very pleasant. Small world, she is a nurse in the emergency department at a hospital in Dallas using Epic: ASAP for the electronic medical records, which is what I am credentialed in and about to start training again (.more about that later). The woman on the other side was nice, she got me napkins when I spilled my drink and didn’t balk when I asked her to move so I could use the facilities.

Next flight, I’m in an aisle seat. The guy across the aisle was the treasure…he was a larger guy, not a big deal until we landed. Then he was out of his seat like a shot, leaning over into his seat with his rump in my face, he almost elbowed me twice, hit me with his coat when he put it on. You just need to have a little awareness of you surroundings when you’re in a tight and confined space.

After all that, I was just ready to get off the plane and I did and everything ended on a high note. DCM was waiting at the top of the escalator for me, gave me a great big hug, which I needed and wanted, a bottle of water in the truck and at the apartment… flowers the Last Vegas DVD. The perfect ending to a long day.

Now, as LaLa says to the girls, “it’s Betty Boop time.” I bid you a very good night!

As the title states…what a day! It is non-stop around this household!

Up about seven when my brother-in-law, ACS [I had to start using his middle initial!] came downstairs to the basement to get his skis and boots and turned on the light, really? Lucky for him, I had woken up about three minutes before that!

EJS and ACS were heading to Nashoba, http://www.skinashoba.com/, for ski lessons for EJS, MGS had her lessons later. So there was the packing of the bag, getting dressed, getting the skis in the car and evenutally, out the door, I was beat by then!

The plan was for ACS to take EJS to the mountain for her lesson, then dad and I would bring MGS to the mountain, meet ACS and EJS for lunch, then MGS would have her lesson at 1:30, sounds good. Dad and I were informed that we would be working as a team to take MGS to the mountain, sounds good.

Next it was time to get MGS set, first layer on, next layer on, last layer on. It takes a little longer because she is three and change and needs to examine everything she is doing, taking the time, piece by piece, to look at it, discuss it and then put it on. Then she was dressed and ready to go. I forgot to mention that while we had a few hours since the others left, we played games, made masks, just had some fun.

One of my sister’s college roommates, KP [that’s how she will always be to me], came in to town to visit her and was staying at SR’s house, they came over just as we were leaving and it was an interesting transition, but someone, not saying who…was smart enough to grab the iPad and say “Hey, MGS, how about Despicable Me2?” Perfect, she loves those minions! WIthin ten minutes of being on the road, she was fast asleep.

It was a nice drive for dad and I up to Nashoba, only about 40 mintues, we chatted, listened to the radio and all of a sudden we were there! I did miss a turn off from the round aout, but that’s the great thing about round abouts, just go around about again!

We got to the ski area, found a place to park, grabbed the sleeping munchkin who wrapped her little legs and arms around me, snuggled down and oh brother, what a feeling!

We went into the lodge, waited for EJS and ACS to join us. After her lesson, they went skiing together, they had such a great time! Side note…I don’t think I told you, my sister and brother-in-law met at a ski house they both had time in, so you know these two girls are going to ski!

We had lunch, not bad for what it was. Then it was time to put on layer after layer after layer on MGS and take her out for her lesson. The three year olds are SO cute! They wear a harness that has a handle on the back so you can pick them up easier if they are on the ground and then there is a stick, looks a little like a pogo stick that the parents use to pull the kids. TOO CUTE!

After watching about fifteen minutes, dad, EJS and I left to head towards the car, well, apparently that was the wrong thing to do, here comes ACS and MGS, she had had enough. We got belgium waffles from the waffle hut and headed to the cars and home.

When we got there, SR and KP were still at the house, we hung out for a while, then everyone by ACS and GES went to SR and LR’s house to see their kids, S&E, LOVE those little guys! EJS and MGS love playing with them, we went to the attic play room they had just finished and played for a while.

When it was time for S&E to have dinner, we all came back to the house, had dinner ourselves, then it was bath, games, books and bed time. For the kids, the grownups thought about going to sleep, we were wiped out by then, but we stayed up.

We went downstairs, had something to eat, SR and KP came back to visit and then they were gone and now everyone is upstairs in bed, except for ACS, who is at a birthday party and yours truly who couldn’t go to sleep without first telling you about my day!

Tomorrow is swim lessons, Sunday school, valentine card making, then the SuperBowl [go Broncos!], then a nap?

Are you tired yet from reading this? Sweet dreams!

{January 31, 2014}   Nobody puts Baby in a corner

Do I have to tell you what that’s from? Just that line elicits so many emotions and memories, well, for me it does.

I almost didn’t say anything in the post, let the quote speak for itself, but on the other hand, so much to say!

I still remember my mom taking me to see it in the theater, I was sixteen, which means drooling over Patrick Swayze!

Isn’t it amazing how one line can bring so much to mind from any one movie. “I carried a watermelon”…”I carried a watermelon?”

“This is my dance space…This is your dance space”

“Johnny: What’s your real name, Baby?
Baby: Frances. For the first woman in the Cabinet.
[laughs]
Johnny: Frances. That’s a real grown up name.”

What else can I say? We all want the bad boy to take an interest, see us and leave his hot model girlfriend, I know Penny wasn’t his girlfriend, just the thoughts that go through our minds. We want Johnny to stick up for us, teach us stuff, get into fights for and over us, stand up to our dad’s for us, make us feel special and safe and laugh and experience life and become a woman and so much more.

Oh wow, how much like a teenager do I sound right now? Ah, who cares, it was Dirty Dancing and I wanted Johnny to pull me out of a corner and dance with me in front of everyone and do the lift and dance in the water and have secret moments with and see him give Mr Shumaker back his money because he was in la la land over me.

Sigh…now I’m just dreaming. Enjoy your daydreams, may they be filled with music, laughter and Patrick Swayze.

{January 29, 2014}   How old do I look?

Let me start by saying, I love being JJ, the grandmother role to LB, A and now LS. I inherited that job by being with DCM, who is Grandpa to all three kids, and I’m so happy to be in that role.

As I’ve told you in the past, at least I think I have, I look like my mom, more and more so as I’ve gotten older, especially when I cut my hair short and dye it red. Yes, I am admitting that I dye my hair…and proud of it!

That being said, let me tell you what happened today. I was picking up EJS from the aftercare program at school and one of the second grade after care teachers asked me….”are you her grandmother?” That kind of threw me…I know I’m in the role of a grandmother, but I didn’t think I looked like a grandmother.

Then, when I told my sister and brother in law the story, he asked who’s mother I was!

Now, please don’t get me wrong, I’m only 42 and I’ve been told I don’t look my age, DCM is a little older than me and doesn’t look it, CG, grandmother to LB, A and LS, doesn’t look like a grandmother either! To me, a “grandmother” is someone who is in their 70s, 80s or older. Like mine were when I was a kid. And I don’t “feel” like a grandmother, I’m not talking about actions or love or feelings, I’m just talking about looks.

One of the things I like to say, when it came to my kids and now my grandkids, “I have all the joys and none of the stretch marks!”

I will revel being JJ and in the grandmother role as long as they will have me, but I’m not quite ready to think I look the role!

The day started waaayyyy too early, the alarm went off at six am! What? It’s Saturday! Is that what today was?

I got up that early and snoozed a few times, I knew there would be very little traffic on the road at 6:30am. I took a lighting quick shower to wake up, got dressed then headed out the door. Luckily, I arranged what I needed last night for the day, just like I just now, for tomorrow. Let me go back and tell you that I didn’t fall asleep until about 2:30 or 3:00 this morning, partly because I wasn’t very tired and partly because my body still thinks it’s two hours behind!

I got up that early because I was participating in the Atlanta Mission 5k, a run to help end homelessness. I made it downtown in plenty of time, checked in and got my number, then walked around a lot to warm up and I mean a lot, mostly because it was about twenty degrees out and I had to stay warm! I had three layers on top, a hat, gloves and neck thingy to keep my face and neck warm, yes, thingy is a technical term!

I’m not sure why, but the race started late, they kept delaying and delaying, I know a lot of people were enjoying the group dancing, but I was ready to go. We started about twenty minutes late, but I was happy with my time, 46:06, mot bad for not having run a race in a while and it was my first run of 2014. This was the fourth year for this run and they started with 300 participants, today 3000! Wow!

The main reason I was a little annoyed was the next thing on the schedule, I was meeting CKM to volunteer at the Hot Chocolate Race Expo. I was a little late getting here, but when I did, we checked in and got set up giving out race numbers, just like we do for the Peachtree Race, this was more techno savvy, we scanned their confirmations, the PC would tell us what corral they were in, then scan their race bib, it printed out a label with their names, we directed them where to go and off they went. It was fun, met a lot of nice people and THREE people with the same name as me ! What are the odds? One woman and I had the exact same birthday, year and everything! I’ve never met anyone else with my name and today, I meet three! Wow!

After our shift was over, 9:45-2:30, we got our numbers and goody bags, walked around the expo and headed our separate ways, well, walked about a mile from the expo to the entrance! We all said it would have been a little easier on our feet and backs if they had those cushioned mats for us to stand on, let me tell you, my feet loathe me right now, if they could, they’d leave me!

After I left the Georgia World Congress Center, I went to see my dear friend RJS, who’s birthday is tomorrow. She was kind enough to let me take a quick shower at her place. We would have had some tea there, but she’s having the floors redone, so the living room was in the kitchen, kind of inconvenient for tea time. So, we headed out to Choco-late for some tea and girl talk. I gave her her birthday present, a really cute cross stich, I’ll show you some time. We each had a limited amount of time, just enough to catch up and enjoy some tea and the company.

RJS headed to pick up her honey and head to Eddie’s Attic for some good music and a good time and I headed to meet some dear friends for dinner, which was a good thing, I hadn’t eaten all day, save half a granola bar, a few Cheetos and an orange! Needless to say, I was staving!

I headed to Taco Mac at the Perimeter, I know that won’t mean a lot to some of you, but other people will know where I went. I was meeting one of my oldest and dearest friends, LGR, who I met about a year after I moved to Georgia, so almost twenty years! The awesome thing about our relationship, is that even though we don’t see or talk to each other very often, the bond is there, we love each other very much and are never far from the other’s thoughts, sometimes it’s like no time has passed, aren’t those friendships wonderful!

I was meeting LGR and her husband, MR and their adorable daughter CR. We had a great time catching up,sharing stories and our lives, laughing and having a great time. We vowed to try to talk more often, I hope we do, but if we don’t, I’m not worried, I know the love is still there! (Thank you again!)

I hopped in the car, headed to the house and sat down to write to you because I know how tired you must be from reading all that! I know I’m tired and hoping to get some sleep very soon because the alarm is going off at way to early am! I am meeting CKM and MB to go down to a Turner Field to participate in the Hot Chocolate 5k, the one we were volunteering for today.

So…that was my day, how was yours?

Wow, four days in a row I’m telling you about my day? It feels like I haven’t done that for a while, then I look back and I did, so here we go, I have a feeling there is going to be a lot more of that.

I say that because I am currently heading to Atlanta for the weekend and then Boston again for the week. I know, I don’t normally talk about my travels while I am traveling, but I’m not as worried because the brave Marine DCM is at home taking care of stuff! (and not just the cats, smile)

So, I got up, finished packing and then called Dr R’s office because I had an appointment at 12:20 and I wanted to be sure I could make the appointment and be back in time for the shuttle. When I spoke to someone, I said if I wasn’t going to have enough time, I’ll just reschedule. Dr R had me blocked out for a twenty minute appointment, just long enough to say I am doing better and to talk about massage therapy and then go home. I will be on the road longer than I will be in his office.

I drive thirty five minutes, get there, someone had cancelled my appointment, great…was I jinxed in the therapy world this week? Hmmm…that’s why I said thwarted again!

But…on a positive note…I left the apartment early for the appointment and had the impulse to stop at Tuesday Morning, what a wonderful store, if you don’t know it, you should see if there is one near you. They used to be open only on Tuesday mornings and once a month, I know weird, huh? Then the popularity grew and then it was weekly and now, every day. It’s one of those places that you go that has great deals on items, from food (sauces, crackers, stuff like that), entertaining, bedding, bath, toys, jewelry, seasonal decorations, luggage, pet stuff, even some clothes, but it’s not like a normal department store, they don’t keep things in stock in bulk, and it’s just a bunch of industrial shelves, so whatever you find is what they have, you may go one day and what you were looking at the next day is gone, you have to go to understand.

It’s a great place to kill time and get gifts, my friends and family have benefited, especially when they have a sale. Well, I’ve been to this one a few times, it’s right near the apartment and today’s impulse was right on! The store was closing sad, but…90% off the entire store. They had been cleared out so much that there was only the front of the store open, those of you who have been to one can appreciate how little an area this is.

Well, I had given myself fifteen minutes, I started grabbing stuff that I knew would be great gift, then I needed a cart! I found a bunch of great kids toys for the nieces and grandkids, they are going to rack up! Let’s just say that I filled two extra large shopping bags and a purple woven basket (check out the receipt for the quantity) and when she rang it up…$10! Huh? I laughed out loud! Then I walked around the corner and saw the stuff I had piled up and forgotten…$4… Not too shabby, holiday shopping done, well, partly for $14!!! How cool is that?

20140125-005136.jpg
My trunk is full…going to have to go to the storage unit when I get back!

So, now I am almost into Atlanta and I posted on Facebook the weather I am heading in to. Get this! It was in the 50s when I left COLORADO, everyone laughed when I said I was moving there, always snowing and freezing, yeah right! 300 days off sunshine! It’s going to be in the 50s to 60s all weekend! No humidity, so not as “wet cold” as other places. Now, I am going to Atlanta and the temperature is going to range from mid TWENTYS to mid THIRTIES, what? Then I go to Boston and it’s supposed to be mid thirties, high fourties, maybe low fifties with rain and snow. How do you like them apples!? Mother Nature sure is a fickle creature.

And the woman I sat next to has no common courtesy, I get to the row just as she is throwing a water bottle someone left into my seat, then when people are passing by, she’s holding her laptop practically in the aisle, they have to go around her, then I get up to go to the bathroom and I ask the guy in front of me if I could go past him (I’m in an exit row, no one in front of me, for those of you trying to do the logistics!) then when I come back to the seat, I tap her on the shoulder, she pretends to ignore me, very nice…we’ve landed, I’m outta here! (Ignoring the fact that she’s just leaving trash in her seat pocket)

So, I’ll let you know how the weekend goes…should be interesting, I’m running two races, will need to run to keep warm! Keep you posted!

Well, the weather forecast was snow and guess what it did? Started sometime last night/early morning and continued until mid morning/afternoon.

There went my thoughts about driving up to the mountains and going skiing, that’s ok, I took care of some stuff. First thing, I went to the DMV of office to take care of my tag, guess what I found when I got there…they had faxed a cover letter with my name and someone else’s title, for a Volvo, fun. I called Chase and they faxed a copy over immediately, interesting that they didn’t have to call the Philipines. After all was said and done, I had a tag, now I just need to put it on the car.

I asked about a personalized plate, it will take about 6-8 months once I order it, huh? CKM pointed out that it would make a great birthday present for myself! How funny is that?

Then I decided, since I wasn’t going anywhere, to take myself to the movies. I made myself a sandwich to take with me, bought a bottle of water, $6.50 for my ticket, I think that was the early matinee price, headed into the theater and watched ‘Saving Mr Banks’. It was very emotional, I’ll talk about it some day, there’s a whole backstory.

After the movies (and I will blog one day about going to the movies alone) I headed home, did some laundry, started watching Leap Year, got a few things done around the apartment, then it was time to head to DCM’s office, I was having dinner with the girls. We had a group of guys and gals to go get beers at a micro brewery and ended up staying and eating, good veggie burger!

It had been a while since I’d seen most of them, the holiday party beginning of December to be exact and I recently got a hair cut and gave a quick color, some people didn’t recognize me! Had a great time! Lots of laughs, good conversation, good times! I always have fun with TT (thank you so much again!), AN, EL, GW and some new people that I met at the holiday party and some tonight, I’m sure I’ll see them all again. It’s nice to know a great group of people to go out and hang with!

Then it was back home, bring the skis, poles, boots, pants, etc in (I had left them in the car the other day thinking I was going today), pack and get ready to head to Atlanta and Boston for the week! I can’t wait!

And guess what…DCM said I was right! I got the hands wrong in my post! Told ya! They were straights, not flushes! Who cares, I won!

It was a day, like any other, got up, well, not like any other because I slept until…wait for it…9:20am! Oh my!

I think the only reason I slept so late was the NyQuil I took last night and I have to tell you those little green gel caps knocked me out! I wasn’t sure if I would be able to finish my post last night, I was dozing off while writing it! I’m fighting a cold and I’m almost the victor, so go me!

I said goodbye to DCM when he left, well, he kissed me and I mumbled. Then I got up, did some stuff around the apartment and headed out to therapy. Let me interject here…last week, I got a call from the receptionist at the PT office asking if I could move my apportionment for today to 11:30, no problem. Monday I had an appointment and when I called because I thought I didn’t have one, they asked me to cancel, no problem. When I show up today, the therapist is confused because my appointment still showed 9:30 am, I said, no worries if it’s not a good time, nope, not a good time, so no therapy this week. Ok, but annoying, mostly because I would have gone skiing today if I didn’t have a therapy appointment or it was still for 9:30.

Off to the recycling center and then to the emissions place to have the VIN verified so I can register my car in Colorado. I wait in the long line for about ten/fifteen minutes to be told, nope, go to the office, wait while the gentleman takes care of the other cars, about fifteen minutes. After about thirty minutes, someone goes to get him. Then I couldn’t find the $20 I had taken out to pay for the verification, mind you…they don’t verify they just print out a form that someone else will verify, that cost me $20. I go get cash, come back, wait another fifteen minutes, then I’m on my way.

Phone couldn’t get a signal, so I just kind of drove around working out where the DMV office was. I gave all the paperwork I had, but now they want a copy of the title, call Chase, they are going to fax, but it won’t be soon because it had to come from THE PHILLIPINES, huh? That’s where that division is located, ok…so it will happen some time after 1:30am. Whatever…so I leave there and head home.

I think that covers the first third irritatings…here’s the funny, finally. I am hungry at this point, so I stop at the Burger King drive through. The kid who took my order was funny and couldn’t quite get what I wanted “veggie burger with lettuce, tomato and cheese only” it never changes. He was having the hardest time, adding mayo, no mayo, mayo. He said he didn’t know what was wrong with him and I finally said “if there’s mayo, I’m coming after you!” We laughed. When I finally got to the second window, he took the money and I said no mayo, right? The manager leaned out the window to give me my burger and said, “we all had a great laugh! I gave you extra cheese and if there’s mayo, you come get him!” It was very funny and there was extra cheese! That made me giggle most of the way!

I had to make a few returns, took care of those and headed home. I cleaned what was left to be cleaned and then headed out to pick up pizzas for poker night. Everyone arrived and we got started; there were only seven of us, but it was intense. We were playing winner take all.

G went out in two hands, he’s usually one of the last guys to play, could be because his good luck charm, wink wink, was not sitting next to him. His wife, D, was in between us and DCM was on his left.

I had a few good hands, won one round with my pocket 4’s, I don’t know if you remember, I have won one round at each game with pocket 4’s! I cleaned up with two straights (now I canst remember and DCM may be correcting and saying they were flushes, but I won, so that’s all that matters!) So, there’s my wahoo! I’m getting a little better, not saying I’m ready for any tournaments, but I can hold my own, getting really good at my poker face! (Although it’s hard to concentrate sometimes, so much to talk about or deal and bet and deal, very stressful!)

Eventually it was DCM, M and me and eventually I went all in and lost, M had THE biggest pile of chips, he needed two chip holders! In the end it was M that won out, congrats! Then the night was over by about 9/9:30 and we were cleaning up. All in all a good time, everyone says so when they leave. Here’s to the next one!

And that my friends, was my day, a few annoyances along the way, but it ended with a lot of laughs and I get to share all that with you! See you tomorrow!
