Peaches Prattlings

Did you get the movie reference?

So, in Georgia, there was an over population of deer, or at least it seemed so. You see them everywhere, raccoons, squirrels, even saw a few armadillos in the last few months I was there.

In Colorado…gophers, bunnies and coyotes, wow! I haven’t seen a deer yet, not saying they’re not here, just haven’t seen any. I’ve seen a few squirrels, but what I have seen a “crap ton” (I know I’ve used this phrase before, just for emphasis, no offense meant!) is bunny rabbits! Now, I saw bunnies in Atlanta, but not like this! When we walk to the movies, a vey populated area by the mall, we see several different groups of multiple groups of bunnies. I’m talking 5-6 in one area at a time. They don’t stick around when you head towards them.
They’re breeding like, well, rabbits! The other day, one crossed in front of my car, like a squirrel that is trying to cross the road!
(Check out the picture I attached, only 3, but you get the idea)

Another animal that is prevalent…gophers. I’ve heard there are gophers in Georgia, just don’t know if I ever saw one, but I’ve seen a bunch here in Colorado, that’s it, just seen a bunch and it was cool. Apparently, they will talk to each other and you.

The last animal, coyotes. Apparently there are a lot of them and they can be a problem. Enough that there are signs along the side streets and in neighborhoods. We saw one the other night in the gym parking lot, down the street from our apartment while walking home from the movies, could have been the same night we saw the cluster of bunnies! DCM was awesome, moved me to the side and behind him, I felt very safe, especially as the coyote watched us walk by for a bit. That was my one and only experience so far with coyotes, and I’m ok with that.

Needless to say, the cats, even though they were never outdoor cats are even more indoor now!

So, as I stated, Gophers and bunnies and coyotes, oh my!

{June 21, 2013}   Ain’t technology grand?

I may have already blogged about technology, but here I go again, besides it brought some good stuff today!

After a thrilling day at work…I called TS and we caught up on the trip that she earned, way to go TS! She took her sister-in-law, LF, to Naples, FL and did a lot of fun stuff m including a ride on an air boat and hugging an alligator. Not many people can say that! She was on her way to see her daughter, KS, at school and help her pack.

Next, I had my weekly catch up with JCT, which was great. She calls me in her way home from the airport, it’s kind of a tradition with us and I like it. It’s funny, since she’s been working on the road, I talk to her more than when she was based in Atlanta! Hopefully I’ll get to see her when I’m back n Atlanta soon!

Next was the best, sorry friends, but…SDL called to see if I and time to FaceTime with her and Miss A! Are you kidding?! It was great! I love having an iPad and the ability to FaceTime or Skype, a few years ago, wasn’t even this easy, but now…one call and hello! I see you!

We caught up on what’s been going on, all the while Miss A was jumping around, walking, climbing, squealing, giggling and just being her goofy self. It was great to see them. I told SDL to get me a list of some children’s books that Miss A might like and maybe I can read some bedtime stories to her, via FaceTime!

What a world and time we live in! I wonder who I will get to talk to or “see” next!

{June 20, 2013}   Ugh

Today, I participated in that time honored and most loathed tradition. Well, loathe to most women…I went bathing suit shopping.

Guys, feel free to tune me out on this on, you may never “get it”, my girlfriends will.

Summer is here, I’m not exactly sure where my bathing suit is, from the move and unpacking, it could be in my 10×15 box, so, I decided it was time for a new suit, especially since there is a pool not 100 yards from my apartment, and I am done working every day at 3pm (5pm Eastern) I need to partake in some sun and fun in the pool.

So, off I went to Kohl’s to look for a suit, they always have good deals as I am discovering. I didn’t see anything I wanted at Walmart and Target is next, who knows maybe I’ll find…the one, or at least the one I can tolerate right now.

Bathing suit shopping, unless you are a Victoria swimsuit model, is not the most pleasant experience. There are things to shove, move and cover. Luckily I did not have to experience my hell in front of other people, no Loehmann’s Department store changing room! Or Syms, a nod to my NY/NJ friends. One giant room with lots of mirrors and the only divider between benches is a narrow board that has hooks on it. Lets get undressed and pretend not to look at each other while discretely trying to cover up the bits we don’t want seen and it’s not easy to cover cellulite in certain areas!

So, I picked up a bunch of choices and headed for the dressing room. Now, don’t, for a moment, think that it was easy to select what I did. I wanted a tankini, for those of you not in the know, a tankini is a two piece bathing suit..basically a bikini with a tank top. It’s still a 2 piece, and it covers what needs to be covered.

There are so many choices; long, short, straps, tanks, strapless, tied at the neck, skirts, shorts, bikini bottoms.

There I am in the dressing room, in front of three mirrors, oh gee, fun! I pull this part and push that part, move this and try to conceal that. Show cleavage, don’t show cleavage, be respectful, look good.

I think I tried on at least 15 different tops and 2 bottoms, and one full suit that was really cute, black dress like thing with polka dots, I’m not ready for the full skirt thing. One bottom won out, 2 tops, for now at least, need to look at myself at home, where the lighting is better and there’s only one mirror and I can try them on again, no pressure.

I might try a few other places this week, summer is here and it will be here for a while, besides, I’m going to need a suit for the Bahamas this winter, right?

So, in conclusion, for all my friends out there, I feel your pain, know that you’re not alone and one day, they will in invent a suit that you can spray on and it flatters you just right! Until that day, us girls have to stick together (who else is going to tell us our suits are riding up and something is about to pop out!)

{June 19, 2013}   What happened to Wil Wheaton?

Wil Wheaton used to play nice guys.

Did you know that Wil Wheaton is 41? I didn’t, I still see him as Wesley Crusher and a kid, I guess he just suffers from the Ralph Macchio syndrome, always looking younger than he is. So, when I was watching Star Trek, TNG [The Next Generation for those of you not in the know], he was playing a young boy and teenager, I didn’t realize we were so close in age.

When we first saw him in Stand By Me, where first garnered attention, he was a sweet, fresh faced kid, Gordie Lachance, just trying to fit in where he could and stand up with his friends and he played his part so well. The next time we paid attention was on Star Trek, Wesley Crusher was a sweet, inquisitive, caring, striving to be the best that he could be to represent his family and impress Captain Jean Luc Picard [sigh, don’t get me started!].

I haven’t seen him in a lot of things since Star Trek, but he does have an impressive resume, as evident by the listings on imdb.com, but the few things I’ve seen him on in the last few years, Leverage, Eureka and The Big Bang Theory, all he does is play a mean, vindictive, conniving, unhappy, tool, yeah, that’s about right. The only time you see him smile is when he is beating someone at something, cheating, conniving or just being plain ole mean. You kind of want to throw something at him or punch him on the nose.

So, maybe he didn’t want to be typecast, but I still have to ask…what happened to Wil Wheaton?

{June 14, 2013}   This sofa is too comfy!

I thought my sofa in Atlanta was the only comfy couch in the world. I was wrong!

The sofa in my house in Atlanta is great, I, like many others, have fallen asleep on it more than once. There were times when I knew I needed sleep that I would grab a blanket, lay down and zzzz. There were times people would try to wake me and then go upstairs, then I would be up, so I knew, if I fell asleep there, just leave me.

It was also great for naps and snuggling. Don’t you think naps are so underrated for those over 6? There is nothing like a good nap on a rainy afternoon or a sunny one, doesn’t really matter!

When DCM found this apartment, he told me the guy who had the apartment said he would leave the sofa, it’s an L shape and boy is it comfortable! DCM said there were several nights that he fell asleep watching TV and just stayed there. I can totally understand that! This is a comfy sofa!

I have fallen asleep more than once since I’ve been here! Today, I was talking to CKM after work and realized that I was sleepy, we got off the phone, I put my head down and the next thing I knew, DCM was home from work and putting away groceries! Tonight, we were watching something, I laid my head down on his lap to watch and next thing I knew, I had missed whatever it was we were watching!

Friends, I am so not complaining! I love this sofa and I love to nap and let me tell you…there is room enough for more than one person to stretch out and nod off. I’ll save you a spot!

{June 13, 2013}   Guest stars

Isn’t it interesting who guest stars where?

You’re watching your favorite show and occasionally they have guest stats and you’re like “woah, wow, is that?” Tonight we were watching an episode of Warehouse 13 and Lindsay Wagner appeared on the screen! I can’t remember the last thing I had seen her in, it may have been a movie on Lifetime!

I was watching the Muppet Movie this weekend and thinking about guest stars and shows that were popular for them. The shows that came to mind, and interestingly enough, from the late 70s/early 80s: The Muppet Show, The Love Boat, Fantasy Island, Star Trek, The A-Team, The Fall Guy.
There are others that you could add, but those are the ones that stick out in my mind the most.

This even lapped over into their movies. Think about the famous people in The Muppet Movies, all of them! It was a who’s who of Hollywood! I was first introduced to Alice Cooper, Carol Burnett, John Denver, Beverly Sills…on the Muppet Show, it seemed to be a right of passage, like being on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, it meant you made it!

There aren’t many shows like that left, that people are clamoring to get on,but it’s always fun to spot them, especially when you might not be able to remember their name, but you remember their character.

Makes me nostalgic, how about you? Charro..”hoochie coochie”…Tattoo, “Da plane boss..da plane!”

{June 9, 2013}   Cliff hangers

Are Cliff Hangers a necessary evil?

You watch a show all year/season, it gets exciting and you’re not exactly sure where it’s going to take you or how it’s going to end, but you know you’re going to be left hanging. Even though you know it’s coming, you still get excited and then fall for it! Then you have to wait for the summer to end and fall to arrive so you can see what’s coming next.

Remember when they would have summer seasons, to keep you occupied. Sometimes, the station will play the last few episodes before the new season returns.

We set our internal clocks to these shows, we set the DVR to record and get excited when it goes off to remind us.

So, while we wait for the next season to start, we find something else to watch, maybe a summer mini series, sort of fill the void, until there is a cliff hanger on the summer series.

Tonight, we watched the series finale of Grimm and the ending was perfect, said it all…
The last thing on the screen was “To be Continued…C’mon, you knew that was coming!”

{May 29, 2013}   When do I get to sit still?

First, let me say how surreal this is, I’m in my house and there are no cats running all over me, I’m not sure which way to turn.

I want to tell you about my day, but I would like to start with something that really ticked me off, but I didn’t want spoil my happy post yesterday. When I went into the office to fill out my rental application and add the cats, I had a rude awakening. When DCM first asked about the pet deposit, they said $200 for the deposit and $50 per month (I couldn’t remember if it was per cat), ok, I knew there would be a fee, I just didn’t realize how big!

It was $50 application fee for me, fair enough, then there was a $200 refundable pet deposit, in case of whatever and the $50 a month rent, I still can’t remember if its for both or per cat, probably per cat. THEN…they hit me with $200 PER cat NON-REFUNDABLE pet application! What??? I had to give the. $650 for me and the two cats, seriously??? What do they do with that money? (Especially since there are no lights in either bedroom or the living room! Take some of that money and put in some lights! Ok, I’m done.

Today stated early..6:30 am for a call, that’s a bit early, but everyone is on EST, so it was only 8:30 for them, I’m glad I’m in EST tomorrow, I have a call at 8am! I have decided to keep my EST work hours, since DCM gets up for work at 6:45, my commute is about 15 feet, so I get up, start work at 7am MT, which is 9am EST, the cool part…I get off work at 3pm! (Don’t burst my bubble!)

There is a shuttle for the airport that will pick up in front of the apartment complex, it was so easy! $38, 45 minutes, I don’t have to deal with parking, it was great. I think I will use them as long as DCM can’t take me to the airport.

There was a nice group of people on the shuttle, 3 people from Boston, go figure and one from Northern California. It was interesting, we started talking about technology and how people don’t talk anymore, they are always buried in their smart phones, especially kids, and here we were talking and wasn’t it nice and refreshing and as soon as we got to the airport, it was “see ya!”

I got through security, grabbed a bite to eat, headed to the gate and fell asleep before we took off, my favorite. I woke up and then the turbulence hit, so not fun! I went to the bathroom and when I came out, one very pleasant flight attendant said “you need to get to your seat ma’am” really? Did she think I wanted to stay in the bathroom the entire flight? I told her I was trying not to throw up.

Friends, I have I tell you…for anyone who knows me, you know I love to travel, I’m comfortable on a plane. There are times I’m flying every month, if I have a job that is 100% travel, I’m in the air more than on the ground and I don’t usually get affected by turbulence, but this was unusual. I sat down right where I was and eventually got back to my seat. After about 20 more minutes, it started to settle down and I settled in to finish watching The Guilt Trip, Seth Rogan and Barbara Streisand. I will have to rent it and watch the whole thing so I can give you a decent movie review. I did get choked up towards the end, Barbara Streisand still reminds me of my mom.

By the time we landed, I had had enough, I went to the rental car terminal, which was surreal in and of itself, being back in GA and renting a car. The guy who got me into a car and set up was very pleasant, the woman behind the Enterprise counter, not so much.

This takes me back to what I have said many, many times..it’s not my fault that you don’t like your job or its not your dream job, so…if you don’t like your job, find another one! You chose to get into the customer service industry.

And who am I to break tradition, it was late, but a stop at Fellini’s for a slice and coke were in order! Back on the road, head down Hwy 78, cruise control is on (I’ve been sooooo good for over 6 months, I am not jinxing it!)

Now I sit in my bed, going to get some sleep in a few, get up, work at my job, try to see some of the people I didn’t get to see before I left and work on finishing things around the house (including another yard sale!) to get it really ready to sell! Fingers crossed friends!

I think I have adjusted to the time difference, it’s only 11pm in Colorado and guess what…I’m awake!

Here’s to the next adventure, but please tell me when I get to sit still!

Another long day, started with a conference call at 8:30 am, not easy getting a lot of people together for a call when you’re spread out all over the globe.

Picked up the UHaul, started loading it, then started loading it, i realized i have way too much stuff!!! I knew, but to see it in the back of a UHaul, kind if puts in perspective. I have been in this house more than ten years, i think you can cut me a little slack.

Then off to meet CKM, to paint some pottery, we decided to paying something  that will make us think about each other.  CKM, being the fabulous photog that she its, she made me a picture frame, we have lots of pictures to choose from.

I did a tea for one pot and i painted it like my car! It even has me driving and CKM taking a picture.

Then it was of to dinner at the vortex in little 5 points, we were meeting with JCT. She meet us on her way home from the airport.

Its been a while since any of us had been to the Vortex, as evident by the huge menu change, all things i really liked were gone! Our waitress was great and we had a blast!

So while we are sitting there catching up, our food comes and there are four different types of potatoes on our plates: sweet potato waffle fries, regular fries, Tater tots and potato salad. So there we are, the food has arrived, we’re eating and talking about!

As we are talking about potatoes, i proclaim..that’s when i announce, potatoes…that’s what i will blog about!

Dinner was great! Thanks to JCT for treating! It was good to catch up and say goodbye and see you later!

{May 22, 2013}   Bloggers Block

If writers call it”Writer’s Block” when they can’t think of what to write about, would a blogger, one who blogs, call it “Blogger’s Block” or “Blogger’s Blank”  if they don’t know what to blog about?

Or am i just making things up because I just don’t know what to blog about tonight?

(Leaving it there, because even though I thought of more to write about, I think I’m being cute (and really tired))
