Today, November 6, 2018 is election day in the United States. Did you get out there and speak your mind, well, through your vote?
I did! This was the first time I got to actually physically vote in Hawaii, in the past, it was absentee ballot, but today, I got to pull the lever. Well, actually, I pushed a button, well, truth be told, I spun a dial and then I pushed a button.
I know, I know, huh? She’s delusional…again! Nope, I got to use the eSlate technology to vote, it’s old school, not touch screen, but it is electronic. You…get this, spin the dial to get the selection you want, then you press the button. Simple. It was a little faster than going through the paper ballot they have here. It was different and I did my part. I feel good, it’s been a while since I was able to participate in an election in person.
I remember the days when I was a kid spending the day with my grandmother at the polling location near her house, she was a volunteer. Both of my grandmothers were very politically active, something I’m quite proud of! Hey, I met people, helped them figure out where to go and I learned to stuff envelopes with the best of ’em! I remember going with my parents to vote, it was so exciting being able to get in that little booth with the curtain, I thought I was big stuff! I SO wanted to pull the lever!!!
So, today, I did my part. Did it make a difference? If my candidates won or lost, it doesn’t matter, what does matter is that I cast my vote and one voice can do so much! If I don’t vote, who can I blame if things don’t go the way i want them to?
Then…as I’m walking out “I’ll take my sticker now”. Sorry, Hawaii doesn’t have stickers. What?! Why am I voting? I’m kidding! You know me, I do a race for the bling! I said, “What am I supposed to post on FaceBook?!” So they taped the iVoted piece of paper to my chest and I wore it proudly! Even after I texted the family and posted to FaceBook.
Now the responses on FaceBook were great! “What? Hawaii can’t afford the postage for stickers?” “Hawaii doesn’t have a printing plant?” But they liked my version! Creative I say! There are some great state “I voted” stickers out there, check out NYC, isn’t it great!
All that matters…I went out and voted. Did you?
