SAVE YOUR MONEY! This movie may be at Redbox in a week or so!
Anyone who knows me knows I love goofy movies and I LA LA LA LOVED Machete, which came out in 2010 http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0985694/?ref_=nm_knf_t1, starring Danny Trejo. It’s about an ex-Federale who is set up by his ex-boss and gets revenge, it’s a classic throwback to the 1970’s slasher films, bloody, gory, violent, badly written and absolutely awesomely awful! I LOVED IT! [did I mention that?] I sat through it twice at the drive in!
When JCT saw I posted on Facebook that we were going to this movie, she texted that I must really love DCM, I told her how much I loved this movie, she said “Only true love would make me sit through that movie” [boy was she right on this one!]
The first Machete ended with a glimpse into what you knew would be the sequel…Machete Kills Again and when I saw the trailer for the first time a few months ago, I about fell out of my chair with excitement! I couldn’t wait! I knew it was going to be awful, but I was hopeful it was going to be awful and awesome like the original. I was sadly mistaken…
This movie, like the original, had an all star cast! Danny Trejo, of course, Carlos [Charlie] Sheen as the president, Mel Gibson, Lady Gaga, Cuba Gooding Jr, Antonio Banderas, Sofia Vergara, Michelle Rodriguez was back, Alex Vega wearing, well, very little, Jessica Alba, just to name a few, ha ha, of the celebrities in this movie.
There was gratuitous violence, which I was ok with, looking for even, in the first 5 minutes I can’t tell you how many guys lost their heads, literally, got sliced in half, stabbed, you name it, it happened. There were a lot of similarities to the last movie, did it work, maybe; Machete used one guys intestine to swing, there was a bigot sheriff, Don Johnson and then, William Sadler in this one. Someone masquerading as a Mexican getting shot at the border, Robert D Niro and Antonio Banderas in this one, Steven Segal as the big bad man in Mexico calling the shots in Machete and Mel Gibson in Machete Kills.
There were half naked women, lots of gun play and blood, guns and knives, hacking and slashing. This movie ended with a glimpse into the next movie, which is kind of how this movie started, just slightly confusing.
I have to say I laughed a lot, but it wasn’t enough to make me want to watch it again! If you want bad B slasher…rent Machete! if you want awful, bad dialog almost slasher, go see Machete Kills, but please do not say I didn’t warn you!
