{March 17, 2013}   Races and babies and movies, oh my!

Today was a full day!

It started off at The Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Foam Fest 5k! This was an obstacle course with foam, mud and fun! I had signed up to do the race by myself, then I found out my friends SV and DV, her husband, were doing it with a group of friends and they asked me to join their team. Team moto, “there was no man or woman left behind”, so we stuck together.

The biggest rule at the race, “Don’t inhale the foam” what’s in that stuff?

We ran together and if we got stuck we worked together and helped each other out, giving a boost, a shove or a pull. The best part was the encouragement for each other at some of the trickier and scarier obstacles. I only skipped the 2 walls and I’m ok with that. I did almost chicken out at the 50 foot “Death Drop” slide, but a nice woman held me as we went down the slide. (no family, this does not mean I am about to do the death drop slide at Atlantis, thank you) the team was so proud of me! I’ve never done an obstacle race with a group, I really liked it!

After the race, SV, DV and stopped by their house, I met their babies, Boston terrier named Chubby (his formal name is Chubby Checkers) and a Weimaraner named Jill. Then we went to lunch and I learned a “crap ton” (that’s a whole lot, btw) about rock quarries, coal mines and surface mines, DV is incredibly knowledgeable. They taught me about bow hunting and so much more and we laughed for about 2 hours, it was great!

It turned it to be another beautiful day, got up to 80, but not at 9am when we started the race, so it was a bit chilly as we went through the mud and foam and puddles! It warmed up on the way home, so drop the top, crank “The Barber of Seville” and away I went!

Their best news…SV couldn’t do the race because they are expecting! I’m sooo excited to be an aunt again (or an uncle, depending on what they have, of course!)

Next, on my way home, I stopped off to drop off some baby gifts, from TS and myself, and meet for the first time,
my newest niece, SDS! She was born December 6th and my very dear friends SS and SD brought her home a week later and it will be official in a week, I cannot wait for the “SDS’s Formal Family Day!” They’ve invited friends over to listen while it becomes official! All I can say is what a doll baby! I can’t wait to get to know her and play and be silly and love love love! Thank you friends for letting me be a part of your lives.

Next, it was home to get ready for a date with DCM. Dinner and a movie! Chinese food, great conversation and a lot of laughs, as always. There was a woman at the restaurant who had done the race today, she was wearing the t-shirt, that’s how I knew, we chatted about the race and the death drop!

Then on to the movies. I hope you have guessed what we saw…Oz, The Great and Powerful. We liked it. It was cool, started out in black and white, as you may have guessed and when he gets to Oz…ta da, Technicolor!

I enjoyed the movie, had a fun cast, but I have to say it took a bit long, picked up towards the end, when the real magic happened. It was cool to see what turned the wicked witch evil and green. Rachel Weiss and Mila Kunis were great as bad witches and Michelle Williams as Glinda, very sweet. There were things that mimicked or paid tribute to the Wizard of Oz, which was cool. There were flying monkeys, witches, lions, munchkins, palace guards, poppies to make you sleepy and emeralds, more than the eye could see.

Overall, it was a fun movie and I will most likely add it to the collection one day. The moral of the story? What you most want is usually right in front of you and believe in yourself, you might surprise yourself.

And now, my friends it’s time for bed. I’m going to click my heels three times “There’s no place like home, there’s no place like home, there’s no place like home”.
