{September 6, 2013}   Riddick

An Oscar contender this is not. It was awful, but I LOVED it!

If you are looking for great cinema, I know there is some out there somewhere, maybe in the next screening room, same theater. But…if you are looking for action, bad dialog, slashing, shooting, creatures, weird dogs /dingo-dongy thingies, some gratuitous nudity, Riddick kicking alien and human arse, then this is the movie for you!

Riddick is played by Vin Diesel, this being the third installment of the Riddick series: Pitch Black, Chronicles of Riddick and now , Riddick. He played the role like it was written with him in mind, not sure if it was, but it fit. His eyes are one of the coolest feature about this character, apparently he had his eyes “adjusted” when he was in prison, the effect: they have a violet starburst in the center, this allows him to see in the…c’mon, you know…pitch black!

The movie opens with Riddick being stranded on a barren, hot planet, not where he expected to be.  There are alien creatures that resemble scorpions on crack, I think that’s a good way to put it. There is a dog-like creature, the dingo-dongy thing referred to that honestly looks like a cross between a zebra, hyena, cheetah, greyhound with the coolest ears. Riddick finds a puppy, his siblings are dead and he takes it with him, after fighting and killing one in the beginning of the movie, this one he raises from a pup, you can guess what happens.

Riddick realizes that he needs to get off this planet, he finds an outpost and signals some bounty hunters who come after him, two different teams; one that looks like they are homeless mercenaries that might sell each other out and the other, a polished, together team that has each others back. It’s one Riddick against eleven bounty hunters, hmmm, I wonder who’s going to come out on top.

Here’s what’s interesting about this movie. Riddick is a criminal, a convict and has been nothing else, with a bounty on his head, but…we are rooting for him, he’s the bad good guy in all this, how about them apples? The cool thing about Riddick is watching his mind work, watch him calculate, rationalize, strategize, there is a MacGuyver-esq quality to what he does, what I mean is that he looks at what’s around so that he can get himself out of whatever situation he is in that will probably save his life.

I almost said for the ladies for this comment, but I don’t want to discriminate…there is a scene where Riddick is, well, let’s just say you won’t be complaining, ok, I wasn’t complaining; there are also some gratuitous nekkid female shots. It’s interesting because these shots affected me in different ways; I am all for gratuitous violence or nudity if it’s warranted and here’s what I mean. There is a silhouette of Riddick on top of a rock, you can tell he’s in the all together, it makes sense [and no, this is not just because i think he’s hot], it makes sense because it is a beginning, almost a rebirth as he starts over, finding himself and his strengths and moving forward. There is a scene, it’s actually a flashback, to Riddick, when he was in a position of power, in his bedroom and there are four nude women, his concubines in his bed. This nudity makes sense, he is the man in charge, they are there to please him, in context, acceptable. Later, the only living female on the barren wasteland of a planet, she is washing up in the sink, topless. Here’s where I have issue…she was only washing her face and armpits and she was wearing a tank top for most of the movie, why does she need to take her top off to wash her face? Also, there are bad things outside the building, she’s supposed to be on her guard and here she is sponge bathing in the sink topless? There is one line that Riddick makes reference to this scene, but was it really necessary? Pointless nudity, see what I’m saying?

Another thing that got me…the language. This is a different race of beings, they are not human, they are not from earth. I get that the movie is in English so we can all understand it, but there were signs and posters like you would find here on earth and the cussing, it’s another solar system, planets and they’re using the same words we use, the f-bomb was dropped a few times, not an uncomfortable amount for anyone, I just want to know why they aren’t using made up words, just like they do in other shows/movies [frack, frail, anything!] I have to tell you, I was going on and on about some of these things and i had DCM in stitches he was laughing so hard!

I will tell you that for a good bit of the beginning of the movie, I was beginning to wonder if there would be any other humans in the movie! just be prepared, the others are coming, we have to build up to it and watch Riddick do his thing, with the jacked up scorpions and the puppy, it’s all setting the stage for the rest of the movie.

Overall, I really liked this movie; I laughed, I gasped, I cringed, i hid my eyes and covered my ears [who wants to hear the screaming!] and i recommend it for anyone who’s into these kinds of movies.

Daddy – go for it! [but, I don’t think that LD will enjoy it!]

{September 4, 2013}   L’Shana Tova

Happy New Year!

Rosh Hashanah is the Jewish New Year, the first of the High Holy Days, it happens in the fall, it’s a two day celebration, beginning in the evening, erev, at sundown, and following through to sundown the next day. This is a time of celebration, the beginning of a new year, a time of reflection and self examination.

There are a few wonderful symbols and traditions that make this holiday special. One is the blowing of the shofar, a rams horn; it represents waking people from their slumber, to alert them to the coming judgement, we’ll talk about Yom Kippur in another post.

It is an honor to be chosen to blow the shofar as it is not an easy thing to do, it takes years of practice to truly perfect it, but there is nothing like seeing and hearing little kids who give it a go! Here is a link for a brilliant cantor, blowing the shofar.

Another tradition is having sweet foods, like apples with honey, for a sweet year. You saw by the title of this post, L’Shana Tova, meaning have a good year, in Yiddish, it’s ah gut yohr, which means a good year.

You might greet someone with Shana Tova, and a response, my favorite, is to wish someone a happy, healthy and sweet year.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosh_Hashanah

So, my dear sweet friends and family, I say to you, L’Shana Tova, I wish you a good, healthy, happy and sweet year.

{September 4, 2013}   A first grader!

There were other things to tell to about my weekend, but I have to tell you something way more important!

I am the aunt of a FIRST GRADER!!!

Am I crowing? Am I proud? My sister is the mother of a first grader! I still remember the day we brought her home from the hospital! What? I remember meeting EJS for the first time, she was two weeks old and today..she got on the school bus and went to her first day of school and she was a champ!

The day started early, I set the alarm for 5:45 so I could call EJS and wish her well on her first day of school. The first thing she said was “I know what I want to be for Halloween!” My sister said, “slow down! How about Hi auntie J, how are you?” We were laughing so hard! “Hi Auntie J, how are you?”

I asked all the questions I could think of: What are you wearing? What’s in your backpack? What’s for lunch? What are you most excited about?

While we were talking, MGS wanted to show me all the dolls she was playing with and said “I can’t see you!” She thought we were doing FaceTime and couldn’t figure out why she couldn’t see me!

EJS and I talked a little more about school and what she was most excited about, I was so excited for her and I couldn’t wait to see pictures! After she was done talking about school, it was time to get down to the next important order of business…what she wanted to be for Halloween. This is a very important discussion and as I am in charge of getting the costumes, I need to know what she wants to be!

When she was little, I used to get costumes, I had a lot of fun choosing, now that she’s getting older, she is making the decisions, which makes things a little easier for me! I miss picking something myself, but it is great to see her making her own mind up and this year, as of right now, it’s the pink power ranger, did you know they were still around?

Then as quickly as we started talking (I think this post is longer than we were on the phone!) it was time to go to get on the bus, good luck, I’m proud of you, have fun and I love you!

Photos went out, I asked how she did and GES said she was a champ! I expected nothing less.

In the afternoon, I checked to see if they were home and they were, FaceTime! EJS was excited and told me all about her day, riding the bus and making a friend, coloring, meeting the principle, gym, lunch, after care and mommy picking her up. I asked what her favorite part was and it was lunch, because being in the cafeteria with everyone made her feel grown up.

After telling me all about her day, she was done with me! I got to catch up with my sister and then, as luck would have it, about five minutes later, in comes MGS and we got to chat for a few minutes until she was done with me!

I don’t think I’ve stopped smiling! I have a niece who is officially in the big leagues and I am so very proud of her! (And my sister for keeping it together!)

For the first time ever, at least I think it’s the first time ever, I cannot for the life of me remember the full name of this movie! DCM and I keep wanting to say Immortal instead of mortal and I cannot remember the word instruments when it comes to this movie!

The worst part…I really did like this movie, we both did I’m just having a moment with the title! Oh brother!

The movie is definitely fantasy, based on a series of books, “The Mortal Instruments is a series of six young adult fantasy novels written by Cassandra Clare, of which five have been published so far. Wikipedia”
http://www.shadowhunters.com/mortalinstruments/

Clery is your typical teenager in NYC, she lives with her mom, who is an artist, she inherited that talent and seems to have the same teen angst as every other teenage girl, but you can tell there is something that her mom is not telling her, especially since she starts seeing certain things she can’t explain.

When Clery’s mom disappears, she finds out she is from a long line of warriors to protect mundanes, non magical folk, you know, you and me, from the mythical creatures. Someone says, you know all those creatures under the bed from the stories when you were a kid, they are real.

Werewolves, demons, vampires, warlocks, witches, just some of the creatures that Clery learns about when her eyes are opened. Clery is played by Lily Collins, who I first remember from Mirror Mirror, she was good in the role; questioning, confused, vulnerable, strong, even kick-ass now and then, brave and true and steadfast to those she cared about.

You felt like you were with her through the entire journey and since she didn’t know who or what she really was, and neither did we in the audience, we experienced everything with her. Well, except for the fighting and bruising first hand, but that’s ok, I’ll watch her do it, she can represent.

There were some things, twists and turns that I can’t tell you about, because it might give major plot lines away, but I did have a Luke and Leia moment. You can’t make judgements about whether someone is good, only because what you thought is probably wrong and don’t forget the teenage love triangle, he loves her, she thinks of him and a brother, she finds someone she thinks she loves and his best friend is in love with him and hates her, like I said, teenage angst!

I have to admit, the very last scene we were like, huh? And, it was a touch too long, but…

All in all, we both enjoyed the movie and we’re looking forward to the next one when there is one.

I know that it is based on a series of books, number six just being published. DCM said he wants to read the series and I think it might be good, but I’m also afraid that if I read it, it might be so different, like so many adaptations are, I will be disappointed. (The Davinici Code was a big one, so much so, that I didn’t read Angels and Demons, I only went to see the movie, I also remember the uproar when people went to see Eargon, I didn’t read the book, so I was happy with the movie)

If anyone has read the books and goes to see the movie, please let me know if they are close.

{September 1, 2013}   Is it snowing yet?

Oh friends, as I was writing tonight’s post, I realized I was digressing left and right, sorry! But now you’ve been warned!

No, I’m not wishing the fall away, promise, it’s my favorite season! [and not just because because my birthday is in this month, but I love when it starts to get a little cooler, there is a crisp chill beginning to be felt, i might have to start wearing a sweater with the top down in the beetle bug! the leaves start to change, are you sensing a pattern?] [so many people are apparently excited because there are pumpkin flavored drinks happening, not my taste, I’m waiting for Starbucks Eggnog!!!] wow, what a digression!

Today, I had an Aunt Selma moment.  Ok, a little back story and family history here. My great aunt Selma was my grandmother’s sister and my cousin JFS’s mom, she was an interesting woman and as stubborn as the day is long, hmmm…just like her sister, family trait? Well, one day, my dad was taking Aunt Selma to pick up a cake, he parked the car, she got out, walked into a pizzeria and came out with the cake! [one of my favorite stories to have him tell!]

So, for my Aunt Selma moment…DCM had something to do at the Boulder array, something technical of course.  Digression…what is an array you ask? Well, the company he works for is Clean Energy Collective and they build solar arrays, rows and rows of solar panels. It’s a really cool company, check out the site. http://morecleanenergy.com/. We went to the array, he gave me a tour and about 30 minutes after we got there, I went into Boulder to get a pizza from a great pizza joint, Abo’s Pizza, LOVE it! They have real NY style and size pizza and DELICIOUS!  http://abospizza.com/.

I ordered the pizza and headed out to kill some time. I killed some time by heading across the street to Sports Authority, having a huge tent sale on winter sports equipment! Uh oh! One of the things I was most excited about moving to Colorado was the opportunity to get back on the slopes and ski, ski, ski!

My sister and I started skiing when we were kids and loved it! We kept skiing, my sister even met her husband at a ski house! My senior year of college, needing 3 credits to graduate, I took skiing, painting and dance! Once a week, we went to a slope, had a lesson and skied for an hour, what could be better. Unfortunately, I haven’t skied since I moved to Georgia, it’s time people!

So, in I go to just take a peek at what they’re offering and we’re talking half off or more on skis, boards, boots, poles, clothes, everything! R was a very nice guy who helped me fit boots and…my smartfeet fit! I am set! I also found out that my left foot is half a size bigger than my right, who knew! I now have Salomon boots! They were $189 marked down to $89! Wahoo! After the boots, I needed skis, we walked to the appropriate section and in about 3 minutes, I had Salomon skis that had retailed originally for $499 [$699 on Salomon’s website] and I got them for…drum roll please..$99!!! I got poles for $30. I also got the 2 year package for adjustments and they are fitting the boots and skis as we speak! All in all, I walked away with a new package for $283! I saved $430!!! Go me!

Next, I’ll go back for clothes and the last thing will be a slope pass!

So, there you have it, my Aunt Selma moment…as DCM said…I went for a pizza and came back with skis!

Sorry for all the digressions, but would you have me any other way?

{August 31, 2013}   A trip to the mountains

Today was a good day to explore.

Remember last week when I told you about going up to Błackhawk, CO to check out the mountains and the casinos? Well, someone, not saying who, but I’ll give you one guess, has been jonesing to play poker in a tournament for a long time, to just play and not run the game. There is WSP, World Series of Poker, for those of you not in the know, Poker After Dark either on the TV or DVR most nights, something had to be done about it.

Well, today, that desire was fulfilled! DCM headed up to Blackhawk to participate in a Texas Hold ‘Em tournament. Let’s just say he had an absolute blast! He didn’t have to do anything except play (normally he runs the tournaments, controls the blinds, please don’t ask me what that is! keeps track of the players, everything) and when he was through, he came in 16th out 56, not to shabby!

Well, while DCM was live out his WSP dreams, I headed in the same direction to the mountains, took a left at the sign for Idaho Springs. It was a great drive with the top down on the curvy roads, seeing the people in the water, hiking and climbing the rocks, very nice.

My first stop was the Idaho Springs visitor center. There I learned that Idaho Springs was the place where the gold rush started; they had a population. Of 14,000 and now, 2,000, it got too expensive to live there, they were hit hard with the gas shortage back in the 1970s.

They had a letter from 1924 regarding the ballot for the presidential elections 1896 and the list of nominations, amazing! There were gems and minerals from the local mines, a pricing sheet for minerals at the time, costumes for women of the day, a car, fools gold, all very interesting, I’m looking forward to going back.

I started to drive through town, decided to park and then walked around. The town was cute and charming, had a nice small town feel, lots of shops and restaurants. I walked to the end of town, then started back down the other side of the street.

I stopped at the Underhill Museum, it was a business/home that was preserved as it was back I the early 1900s. I learned about the owner of the house and his family, it was charming.
http://www.examiner.com/article/museum-monday-underhill-museum-idaho-springs

Right outside of the museum was a sweet azalea bush, ok, it might not be an azalea bush, but I’m going with it, and flying around the bush was a hummingbird moth, it was amazing, looked just like a hummingbird, but it was a moth!

I walked the full length of the town back to my car, dropped off a letter at the post office for a nice woman looking for a post box.

http://www.idahospringsco.com/

I started driving, I was going to head up to Mount Evans, but I ended up driving to Georgetown, CO, another very cute and quaint town. The great thing…as I was driving there, is saw all the signs towards the different mountains that feature…skiing! I cannot wait to get on the slopes this winter, it’s been a while!

When I was in Idaho Springs, it was warm, when I got to Georgetown, the sweatshirt came out, the temperature had dropped at least 15/20 degrees, it felt like and it was raining a bit. I did learn that even in the summer, it gets down to the 40s in Georgetown, sounds good to me!

Georgetown, like Idaho Springs, which I didn’t mention, the main “drag” is about three to five blocks and just as charming as it could be! I found free parking, wahoo and got out to walk around. Right where I parked was the Hotel de Paris.

The Hotel de Paris museum that was a hotel that dated back to the mining boom with a first class French restaurant, showroom for traveling salesmen, and high dollar patrons in the hotel. The owner, Louis Dupuy, was an interesting man, had quite the checkered past! One of the really interesting things was that he didn’t have any family, so he left the estate to his main, Sophie, who he was very close with and since she was illiterate and couldn’t run the business, she was so stressed out, she died four months after he did!

There was only one way to tour the museum, guided tour, the reason, everything was open and very few things were roped off and everything was original to the museum, the only thing that had been replaced was the carpet in one room and some of the support beams in the basement.

It was a great learning experience! They had some great features like the hide-away beds that folded to look like dressers, so cool! Louis Dupuy even had his own ranch with cattle and once a week would go to his ranch, slaughter her own cattle and serve it in his restaurant, talk about full service!
I highly recommend this tour if you have the opportunity.

Home

Since the tour started at 3, I had some time to kill, so I walked around town, into some of the shops and galleries, and after the museum, I walked the rest of the town. I didn’t buy very much in either town, but in Georgetown, I did buy some local honey, it’s some thing I like to buy when I travel.

I treated myself to a cup of hot tea, it was definitely needed and a homemade peanut butter cup, yum!
http://www.town.georgetown.co.us/

After walking around a bit more and chatting with some of the people in town, I headed home, a beautiful drive, incredibly scenic.

{August 30, 2013}   Play Ball!

Tonight we participated in a time honored tradition, that American past time, a baseball game. We went to a Colorado Rockies game!

About a month ago, DCM got a subscription to the Denver Post. Along with the subscription, came a sheet of coupons, and who doesn’t love coupons? Here’s the thing, he signed up for the paper in mid July, take a guess when they expired, hmmm…

Included with the coupons and subscription was a voucher for two tickets to a Colorado Rockies game. I found a Rockies Dugout at the mall, there are a lot of locations that you can get tickets out, wahoo. You can guess where the seats were located, as they were free.

We left in plenty of time, not sure what the traffic would be like, no traffic, so it only took about 25 minutes to get there. We went into the stadium, took the escalator up, found our seats, then it was time to find food, we were starvin’! The vegetarian options, along with everything else and more options, were back down on the first level, stairs thank you, so down we went.

CKM, you would have been in heaven, gluten free options everywhere!

Veggie burger, that was for me, shocker! I don’t have a problem paying $5 for a veggie burger, they a good size, same a I make at home or get in a restaurant, I do have a problem paying that much for a veggie dog when they are pretty small. You can get a foot long or bratwurst, that’s worth the price.

So, veggie burger and bottle of water for me, bratwurst and a coke in a souvenir cup for DCM, and fries to share.

Back up the escalator, just in time for the national anthem, it was very nice, then to find our row, sat in the middle, we took a little liberty with that, pretty much over first base. We enjoy dinner, there’s nothing like a burger or dog at a baseball game.

The weather as beautiful, not too hot, a nice breeze every once in a while, great view of the mountains in the distance. When you looked across the field, there was a very nice area that looked like a mini woods with trees and a pond and when there was a home run, water feature shooting up, very cool. This was also where the pitchers warmed up, how cool is that!

The stadium was pretty empty at the start of the game, oh, they were playing the Cincinnati Reds, sorry! By the end of the fourth inning, it was pretty in full the lower levels and more and more people joined us up top. One thing I noticed, most of the people who were there were fans, in one form of Rockies apparel or another and now, thanks to DCM, I was too, with my new Rockies hat, thank you!

Now, DCM and I are not baseball fans, we enjoy going to a game, there is a crackle and feel in the air, a hum and of course, nothing like the food and snacks you get there! We discussed it and agreed that we probably wouldn’t stay to the end of the game, DCM said we’d try to make it to the fifth inning.

The fourth inning had some excitement in it, there were double and triple plays and four runs home, wahoo! It lasted quite a while, the other innings didn’t go on as long.

Before the excitement, I said “I don’t think I’ll make it to the seventh inning stretch” his response…”I said we’d try to make it to the fifth inning!”

At the end of the fourth inning, we looked at each other and said yup, so off we went. Down the stairs, back to the car, funny thing about that, we parked in a trendy area and apparently free, on the street parking is rare, a girl in an SUV asked if we were parked there and were we leaving, so she followed us, we walked as quickly as we could, but she followed us, it was a little like being stalked!

Got into the beetle bug, dropped the top and headed home. Cross one item off the Colorado to do list, going to a Rockies game!

{August 30, 2013}   How old am I?

How old am I? How old do you think I am?

I had so many other things I wanted to talk to you about tonight but here we are.

Today I had to return something at the mall, I got sidelined by one of those kiosk people, you know, please come over, let me touch your hair, moisturizer your skin, you know.

I normally don’t even talk to those people. I remember be out to dinner with KH and TS, we were at the mall, on our way to see JV at her job at Coach and someone pulled me over to talk about a hair straightener, I’m not even sure how they got me to talk to them. The next thing I know, this person had pulled my hair out of its pony tail and started straightening my hair. The look on my face frightened my friends, they thought steam was going to come out of my ears! I managed to get away without anyone getting hurt.

The moisturizer guy tried to talk me into the $125 ball of something with gold in it. Who knows what it was, I wasn’t buying it, his lines or the product.

As I was walking away, he asked if I was younger than him, I asked how hold he was, 34, he thought I was 32. No, I am not that gullible, it’s still nice to hear. We all know that I am a bit older than that and I’m good with it. I do look younger than my age, all the women in my family n my moms side always look young, well into their 90s, good genes.

Now, coming full circle back to my opening thought stream, how old am I or do they think I am?

When I got the mail today, I had an envelope for Neptune Society…I could win a free pre-paid cremation! As well as information on cremation. This was not just junk mail, well it is, but it was addressed to me personally, my name and address! What? The letter inside had my name n the greeting!!

There was information about the benefits of cremation, the economics and an entry form to win a free cremation!

So, in conclusion…how old do they think I am?

{August 28, 2013}   HSN – a blast from the past

No, I am not a Home Shopping Network fan or junkie, I think I’ve seen anything on the HSN twice in my life and for about 30 seconds to a minute max.

When I was in college, I got a job at a specialty food store, Lloyd’s of Long Island in West Hampton Village. I called it an upscale deli once and got hit on the back of the head, I learned my lesson.
I remember being exhausted when I got home every night, I think I even fell asleep in my food at the dinner table one night!

I know my parents didn’t think I would go back, but I ended up working there for all four years of college, even after it was sold and became Paula’s. It was quite an experience, catering to the rich, the very rich and sometimes the famous. I got to make sandwiches for Paul McCartney, I served Marvin Hamlisch and Glynis Johns, you know, the mom from Mary Poppins! just to name a few, yes, I just name dropped!

We had a cappuccino machine with a plethora of flavored coffees, I was a “barista” before there were baristas! For someone that doesn’t even like the smell of coffee, I could make a mean cappuccino! Hot or cold, you name it, I could make it!

As we were catering to the wealthy, we had high dollar prices, $9 for a pound of tuna salad, $28 for a pound of shrimp salad, but along with the high dollar prices, we had really good food! I know it was good because I ate it and after a few days of being in the case, it was either take it home or throw it away, guess who’s family ate well during the summer!

I really liked working there and loved the owners M & D, aunt and niece. They took a chance on me and I’m not even sure they thought I would come back the next year, but I did and our relationship got stronger, enough that they gave me more and more responsibility, I was honored. Eventually, I was the one who worked solo during the week, with one or both of them, we would do inventory, rearrange, cook, just have a good time.

I remember when M met her husband, he was a tall, handsome biker with a great mustache and used to say “Cool Beans”, I hadn’t heard that before and use it still to this day, and then when her son was born… what a doll baby.

D had the cutest little boy, J. I babysat a few times, most memorable? His ‘noo-noos’ with butter, that would be noodles for those of you not in the know. I would make it and he would take the pat of butter and put the whole thing in his mouth, I got wise fast!

Ok, now, I’ve told you when I was in college, you’ve figured out how old I am. Let’s just say, this was early 1990s, how old do you think I feel thinking about those kids?

The cool thing is that Lloyd was the matriarch’s maiden name and everyone in the family, male and female, had the middle name of Lloyd, except for one of the grandkids, who’s first name was Lloyd, isn’t that an awesome tradition?

There are so many memories, most of them good, that I have from that time, I will definitely treasure those memories. I know some of you are shocked, but I still have a Lloyd’s of Long Island tshirt or two, so does my dad!

One of the businesses that was next door was the high end jewelry store, Joan Boyce, Fine Jewelry. Joan and her husband Allen (I know I use initials, but if you go to the site and look at the gallery, you’ll see his name) were always very nice to me. When it was lunchtime, I would bring what they ordered and mine and then sit in the back of the store or on the stairs in the showroom and have lunch, I was kind of hiding out until it was time to go back to work, I was able to get thirty minutes of quiet, anyone who works in the food industry knows how precious that is.
http://www.joanboyce.com/

Not to worry friends, I am tying this all together, and here it comes!

I was flipping through the channel guide and I saw a name that I knew and immediately flipped it on because I had to know if it was the same person and it was! She hadn’t changed or aged a bit!

I was surprised by what she was selling, well, not completely surprised, but it wasn’t what I thought she would be on there for. When I knew her, way back when, she was selling high end jewelry in a very high end town, West Hampton Beach, NY. I thought she would be selling her jewelry, but she was actually selling velour track suits and a few other things, not my taste, but I did check it out for a minute. She was as vibrant and boisterous and I remember, I expected nothing less! After looking her up on Google, she has HSNs for jewelry and shoes, there you go.

Seeing her and hearing her voice brought back so many memories.

{August 28, 2013}   Physical Therapy…session two

Today I went back for my second physical therapy appointment.

When I got there, the ladies behind the counter asked me if I’d seen the MTV music awards, I hadn’t, do they still show music videos? And all anyone can talk about is Miley Cyrus and the “twerking”, even CKM asked me about the controversy and what twerking was. (You can find the news stories on your own, I won’t be responsible if you see this and you are irrevocably damaged!

Unfortunately, DCM had introduced me to twerking through a video on YouTube and let’s just say..I’m scarred for life. I would never subject anyone to this torture and since I was subjected for quite a while and every once in a while, I look at him and say “twerk it! Twerk it!” Take that!

I waited a few minutes for my turn and then we went into one of the therapy rooms. I hung my head and said I hadn’t done my homework, I apologized and said that I would do it going forward. She laughed and said, “Well at least you admitted it”.

We started with heat, a warm towel wrapped around something and placed on my left neck and shoulder. That was for about ten minutes, I checked Facebook, my email, I may have dozed off. Then it was time for massage, the torture begins.

I told her about blogging about what she said last week, she laughed. Let’s just say, this time, way more painful, not sure why, but it was and…get this, she told me I was THE WORST case she had ever encountered! There were a few spots that she dug into that I felt in my toes and my fingers were tingling, definitely not fun.

She apologized and I told her it was fine, she had to do what she had to do, but unfortunately, I might throw out an expletive or two, I apologized as well. I did ask her if anyone laughed or made her laugh as much!

I also asked if this problem was going to clear up in 4-6 weeks, because that’s what the prescription was for. Um…

She also asked if I had ever been to a massage therapist, I said no, should I? She recommended it after the PT was done, said I would be a massage therapists best and worst, a challenge; you know me, always a challenge!

After massage, it was electrodes, fun! I think I may have fallen asleep that time. After electrons, she wanted to do some traction, so I laid down on the table, my feet propped up on a stool, my head in a vise that would pull and hold for 40 seconds, oh what joy! She started and left for about 7 minutes when she came back, she said I had a frown on my face, nope, I had actually dozed off, that was my confused face.

We were done and on the way out, I promised to do my exercises. A little sore, but none the worse for wear.

Lets see what happens on Thursday, my next appointment.
