Today would have been my parents 45th wedding anniversary. Wow.
My parents met when they worked at a summer camp, she was a counselor and he worked the waterfront. She always said she married him for his legs, he thought she had money, kidding.
They met and it was all over, a short time later, they were married, four years later I came along and almost four years later, my sister.
I loved watching my parents together, never saw people so in love, every day. They were just sweet on each other. My mom used to introduce my dad as her first husband and my dad would introduce my mom as his first wife.
They didn’t go out dancing, but they would dance in the kitchen and…at every function, they were sure to take to the dance floor.
I learned from my mother at a very early age, never go to bed angry and they didn’t, they would talk, sometimes all night. I didn’t listen to what they were saying, but I could hear them, they would get through whatever it was.
I learned from my parents what true love is, what a true partnership is, I watched how they looked at each other, how they talked to each other, how they mooned at each other, how they kept each other in check, how they built each other up and if need be, knock each other down a peg.
When I was a kid I used to make fun of my mom if they spent a night apart and she called my dad and they were mushy, then I fell in love for the first time and I got it! Wow, what a rush.
My mom was an amazing woman, my dad is an amazing guy, and together, they were an amazing couple, something I strived for and wish for everyone I know, for a lifetime of you’re lucky, for a moment to get a glimpse.
I love you mommy and daddy.
